Though software sales were down year-over-year last month, Undead Labs’ zombie survival gameState of Decay 2did well for itself. It was May’s best-seller, and it sold almost twice as many copies as its prequel, State of Decay. A little less than a month after its launch, Microsoft announced at theElectronic Entertainment Expothat it hadacquired the studio.

Remedy Developer Says, “All of Us Want to See a New Alan Wake Game”

alan-wake-2-ds1-670x377-constrain.jpg

Remedy Entertainment, developer of acclaimed games such as Alan Wake, Max Payne, and Quantum Break revealed their latest project, Control, last week during PlayStation’s showcase at E3. A few days later, we were able to sit down with Remedy’s Mikael Kasurinen to talk about Control but in the process, we discussed some of the studio’s past projects and how they’ve left the door open to one day return to them.

We asked Kasurinen why Remedy opted to move on to an all-new IP with Control even though Alan Wake specifically has been primed for a full-fledged sequel for quite some time. Kasurinen responded by saying the following:

“So we own the Alan Wake IP, yes. I just want to say right away that it’s very dear to us and close to our hearts. We all love Alan Wake at Remedy and I think all of us want to see a new Alan Wake game. I just want to say that out loud. Unfortunately, I can’t speak to it anymore than that. We’ll see what happens with Alan Wake next but we all want to see it happen, absolutely.”

Alan Wake originally released in 2010 and those that have played the game to completion are probably familiar with the rather large cliffhanger ending that the story ends upon. Subsequent DLC and the spin-off title Alan Wake’s American Nightmare helped further expand upon the world and main character, neither of these wrapped up the narrative and if anything just created more questions.

While the franchise hasn’t been heard from since 2012, the fact the Remedy does own the IP has allowed them to freely create a new game in the series if they ever wanted to do so. Judging from Kasurinen’s statements, it doesn’t seem that Remedy has completely ended the possibility of ever returning to Alan Wake, so there’s still potential that we could one day see a new installment in the franchise.

For now, though, Remedy seems to be entirely focused on Control, which is a third-person action game due out next year on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Stay tuned to DualShockers over the coming days for our full interview with Kasurinen as well as our hands-off impressions of Control.

I downloaded Forza Horizon 3 and I thought it looked great on my mid-level rig but after years of simracing the game was kinda hard to get into with a wheel and seems to have too much going on the background sorta speak.

I'm sort of used to Midnight Club where the street racing is portrayed closer to how it is in real life, that is being more "underground" instead of "out in the open" as it is in Forza Horizon.. That being said, it's still impressive and is probably mind blowing on a high end rig.

If I go back to consoles, I'm likely to go to Xbox due to the Forza franchise.

Microsoft and Razer might be working on an Xbox keyboard and mouse partnership

Keyboard and mouse support for Xbox remains a hot topic, despite never fully materializing. Support for keyboard and mice would open up Xbox to a far larger array of games, potentially, since many titles like Age of Empires DE simply won't work well with a controller. Minecraft (Bedrock version) already supports mouse and keyboard on Xbox One, but so far, that's it.

Earlier in the year, Microsoft spoke to developers about its plans for keyboard and mouse support on Xbox One. Leaked documents we've recently received detail how Microsoft was at least planning to bring mouse support to the April update of the Xbox dev kit. Redmond showed off the sofa-friendly Razer Turret keyboard and mouse peripheral in partnership with Razer, who joined Microsoft for the presentation.

Whether these plans are still set to go ahead or not remains a mystery, but we can at least get a glimpse at what the two companies might be working on.

The presentation details a Microsoft and Razer partnership to enable Razer Chroma RGB lighting support directly on Xbox in games, showing off how it works today in PC versions of Overwatch, DOTA2, and other titles. Chroma lighting can provide visuals cues for abilities coming off cooldown and so on, which can be useful and immersive.

The presentation also details some rules and guidance for developers on their implementation of mouse and keyboard support for Xbox. Gamepad support is still a requirement for all titles, and the Xbox can only support one mouse and keyboard per console, unlike gamepads, of which it can support several.

xbox-mouse-features.png

Microsoft also offers some guidance on the impact mouse and keyboard support might have for competitive multiplayer titles. It notes that it's entirely up to developers on how they want to utilize mouse and keyboard support, emphasizing that the presence of mouse and keyboard can be detected, meaning a developer could potentially lock players to specific playlists based on their inputs to preserve balance.

Microsoft encourages developers to monitor how mouse and keyboard players compete against gamepad players and make adjustments where necessary, while "highly suggesting" that use of mouse and keyboard should be used in separate matchmaking rules.

The presentation notes that support for all USB mice supported by Windows would be available on Xbox, including mice with wireless dongles. Mice with custom drivers or Bluetooth reliance would remain incompatible, however. The presentation also discussed unauthorized peripherals which emulate controller behavior. In response, Microsoft is introducing a new API developers can leverage to detect (and potentially block) mouse and keyboard accessories that mimic controller inputs unfairly.

The presentation closes noting that mouse and Razer RGB lighting support for games was at least supposed to arrive in the April 2018 XDK update, targeting a Fall 2018 Windows 10 Update rollout, internally known as RS5. We haven't been able to verify if it actually did land in the hands of developers as of yet, or whether it got cancelled or delayed.

Whether these plans go ahead or not remain to be seen, so take it with a pinch of salt. However, maybe soon, gamers could get a lot more choice over how they control games on Xbox, and the list of games jumping across from PC could also grow.

Didn't do a search to see if this was posted but I just found out the original creator of "Cyberpunk 2077" (the original pen and paper RPG "Cyberpunk 2020") is black check this out:

State of Decay 2 Celebrates 3 Million Players with Today’s Release of the Independence Pack

In advance of the 4th of July holiday, we are celebrating that the State of Decay 2 community now exceeds three million players. This, along with the recent news that fans made State of Decay 2 the best-selling game of May, puts us in a festive mood. To celebrate, we are revealing our first post-launch content, the Independence Pack. This pack gives you the opportunity to take on the zombie horde with style, grace and most importantly, colorful gunpowder. Available today on both Xbox One and Windows 10, the pack unlocks an array of fiery new versions of vehicles, weapons and gear for your community. State of Decay 2 wants you to show off with explosive awesomeness to the three million player strong community. Heck, even the zeds are dressed for the occasion in this pack, and there are few things as satisfying as taking out a Revolutionary War-themed zombie during a supply run. It’s like history that you can blow up…with fireworks!

What do you get in this firework-filled content? Glad you asked, patriot. The Independence Pack features three zombie-ready vehicles, access to a supply drop containing three new patriotic melee weapons, two unique ranged weapons and piles of single-use fireworks that are perfect for causing general havoc (or making blood plague elimination a much more festive occasion):

  • Take the Pyrohawk, Burninator or Meatwagon out for a spin. With names like these, you know driving will be more entertaining.
  • Step up to your station at the BBQ with The Freedom Ringer, Grillmeister and BBQ Fork – new hand-held zed-slaying solutions.
  • Subtlety not your thing? Well we have the Pyro Launcher and Starshank Launcher so you can blast zombies with fiery explosives.
  • Just like loud noises with pretty colors? You’re in luck! The Block Rocker, Reign o’ Fire, Bouncing Boris and XL Firework Shell offer even more options to turn a mission into a celebration.
If that’s still not enough boom, you can also use the new Fireworks Crafting Station facility mod to craft additional fireworks or ammunition for your fancy new fireworks launchers. Also keep an eye out for a new wandering trader hosting a fire sale on these explosive new goodies. That’s right, a good ole traditional fireworks sale.

SOD-PATRIOT.png

Grab the Independence Pack today for $4.99 USD (or for free if you purchased State of Decay 2: Ultimate Edition); Xbox Game Pass members also receive a 10 percent discount on the Independence Pack. If that isn’t enough to get you jazzed, the team also added to the existing game with a new update that focuses on non-firework content. In Update 2.0, get ready for 20 FREE new missions, nearly 10 new weapons, a “Rare Books” trader for new skills and plenty of improved gameplay in honor of the Independence Pack for ALL players. Did we mention it’s free? To read more on that, please visit StateofDecay.com for the full patch notes and other things that aren’t fireworks.

But wait, there’s more! After wiping out the blood plague and celebrating your legacy with this festive pack, get ready for completely separate shenanigans in the upcoming Daybreak Pack this September. That all-new content lets you take the fight to the zombies, featuring an exciting new mode where you play as a well-equipped Red Talon soldier. You’ll work to complete a challenging objective while protecting your fortified position against waves of zombies and freaks to earn new rewards and weapons. The Daybreak Pack is also included in State of Decay 2’s Ultimate Edition.

If you haven’t joined the community just yet, now’s a great time to get in on all the action! In addition to playing it with an Xbox Game Pass membership, you can purchase the Standard Edition for $29.99 and the Ultimate Edition for $49.99., which includes both the Independence Pack and Daybreak Pack. As an Xbox Play Anywhere game, one digital purchase gets you both the Xbox One and the Windows 10 version of the game

The DLC for State of Decay is pointless until they let you stay on the map once the leader missions are done. You can finish a map quick as hell once you find the plague hearts. Knock them out, do your leader missions and then you done. Can't even visit that community again.

Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered edition is coming to PC and consoles

Surviving Mars with the aid of a sledgehammer

Vienna/Austria, March 29th, 2018; THQ Nordic Red Faction Guerrillawill be fully re-Mars-tered (pun proudly intended) and released on PC, PlayStation®4 and across the Xbox One family of devices including Xbox One X in Q2 2018. The game will go by the name of Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered and "destruction" will remain its middle name.

More information on the release date will be announced in due time.

One random yet fun fact about Mars (in real-life): At a height of 25km, Olympus Mons on Mars is the largest volcano in the Solar System and is nearly three times as tall as Mount Everest:

About Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered
Set 50 years after the climactic events of the original Red Faction, Red Faction: Guerrilla allows players to take the role of an insurgent fighter with the newly re-established Red Faction movement as they battle for liberation from the oppressive Earth Defense Force. Red Faction: Guerrilla still defines the limits of destruction-based game-play with a huge open-world, fast-paced guerrilla-style combat, and true physics-based destruction.

Features

  • Open World Guerrilla Warfare - You decide who, when, where and how to battle. Utilize guerrilla tactics, improvised weaponry, and modified vehicles to lead insurgent attacks on EDF targets. Launch attacks based on your own gameplay style, take on missions in any order you choose, or engage in destructive activities to weaken the EDF's grip on Mars.
  • Strategic Destruction - Use destruction to your tactical advantage, setting ambushes or chain reaction explosions to attack enemy strongholds and permanently modify the game environment. Leverage fully-dynamic physics-based destruction to improvise on the fly: blow holes in a wall or floor to set an ambush or escape, take out a staircase to stop your pursuers, or drive vehicles through blown out walls.
  • Evolving & Emergent Gameplay - Carve your path through an ever changing landscape as you improvise your combat tactics - mixing gameplay styles, vehicles, weapons and explosives to defeat the EDF.
  • Epic Sci-Fi Setting - Explore the huge, unforgiving Martian landscape, from the desolate mining outpost of Parker to the gleaming EDF capital city of Eos; then tear through the fully destructible open-world environments swarming with EDF forces, Red Faction resistance fighters, and the downtrodden settlers caught in the cross-fire.
  • Multiplayer Combat - There is no place to hide when you put your guerrilla warfare skills to the test in a variety of highly destructive multiplayer combat modes.

Re-Mars-tered Features

Man normally I don’t care about remasters but I’m 1000 percent behind this...

Bethesda's Todd Howard Suggests Sony Preventing Fallout 76 Crossplay

It's well known at this point that Sony is the behind the block to crossplay between the PlayStation 4 and other consoles, something Shawn Layden saysthey're currently examining. Sony has business reasons for not wanting crossplay (though theirEpic account locks are certainly a lot more debatable), but for the most part, publishers have stepped back from involving themselves in the argument. Epic's method of pointing to Sony is to put a message in the Switch version of Fortnite telling customers not to contact Epic. Psyonix says they could turn it on in a day if Sony allowed them. Few large publishers seem to really want to talk about it outloud.

In a video interview with German website Gamestar.de, Bethesda Games Studio's director and executive producer Todd Howard is directly asked about crossplay for this year's Fallout game, Fallout 76. "We would love to do that," Howard said, "but right now that's not possible." Howard pauses for a second, then begins "Sony isn't being as helpful as we want them to be."

It's not clear if there will be crossplay between either console and the PC for that matter, but as of right now, it is definitely not happening between the two console versions themselves. Fallout 76 releases on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on November 14.

I can see. Microsoft doing something like including game pass with games with gold with their next gen console to get ahead on Sony.
