Why Aren't More Young Brothers Into Mathmatics?

hearing about so many poor, chinese and japanese immigrants coming to america, going to public school and gettin straight As in college prep classes. these people come over not knowing any english but work their azzes off to learn the language.

this one kid came over with his working class parents 5 years ago, didn't speak the language, and today he's applying to top colleges in the country. his parents work but don't make over $60,000 per year so he'll get a full academic scholarship. why is it that black brothers and sisters in the same age group, that already have a head start over immigrants just in term of knowing the dayum language, don't embrace mathmatics and biology i wonder?

those lead to high end jobs after graduation too

When I went to school only one year of math was required to graduate while you needed 4 years of gym.

So the classes that had advanced math didn't have many black faces.

I love my people but every year I failed Math I got my ass whooped and never got help...my main problem with math is every teacher teaches a different way and expects you to change learning styles to fit them when it should be the other way around

you usually make one serving of uncle bens but today you have a guest so you want to make more but not quite double..so instead of 1 cup of rice and 2 1/4 cups water what do you do ?

because Asians take education seriously. They will get their child a tutor and when they have straight A's they keep the tutor.

others don't get a tutor until they might fail and as soon as they get that C goodbye tutor

the title has zero to do with black folks being 'historically' involved in math. in the CONTEXT of the thread, i asked why more brothers aren't into math like immigrants, particularly asian immigrants. then i used an example of a kid that only been in this country for 5 years, yet has applied and will get into some of the best colleges in the country on an academic scholarship. no reason why brothers and sisters can't do the same.

As a mathematician myself, I find many students that I encounter not willing to put in the hard work everyday. Some are definitely more interested in rapping and texting when attempting to learn the foundational skills. But I see some students trying everyday.

I have been to China, Singapore and japan and disagree that Asia is a thrid world country.

But for the sake of argument why would anybody living in inner city America think they are not in a comparable situation to a 3rd world country and why would they not be hungry to get out of that existence ?

And if that existence is so comfortable why are there so many articles and threads questioning why Obama has done more for the residents of those areas ?

Why do they need help if they situation hasn't induced a hunger to get out of it ?

So I want out because it isn't a good life but I am not hungry enough to do anything to change my circumstance and want somebody to just do it for me.
