The Americans: The 2nd best espionage/spy show on TV

but that's the thing. she is a teenager. she ain't 1 way. so she lashed out reacted and did something bad. now she's had time to cool off and think about it and she's decided on being a spy

like i said i am in the minrority and a hopeless romantic.
Paige and Matthew are Rome & Juliet but their parents rep the USSR & USA. lol

as a teenager she is all over the fucking place but the only thing i can buy is her being a teenager (aka being boy crazy) and being about keeping her family safe.
imo she aint about to give her life for the motherland like Elizabeth. in that regard she is much closer to Phil. From the jump Phil has always been bout the family. the reason he couldnt even entertain Elizabeth's proposal to leave his family and go with Martha is cause family came first.

with that said cant wait to see how he reacts to finding out he offically has family he never knew that might blow up his spot

I don't think its out of the question that she likes him I'm saying her advancing things. She went from religious fully to trying to make out and shit? Some of that is kick started with the situation at hand. She's also trying to distance Henry from stan's kid as well. They barely even really hang out anymore without her around and now he's just all alone. 4 episodes ago he would've been at Stan's watching the super bowl with the son
Now he's at home all alone cause his sister has taken his spot. That's on purpose fam.
Evident by how she's progressing and coming to terms with things. She's a teenager trying to find her role in the family. Before she was searching for herself with religion now that she's got a higher purpose and a secret so to speak she's putting herself all in with this stuff. Which is what Philip sees and why he's furious. He knows she's going to go all the way in with it and he's telling her as they're leaving "You have no idea." "Don't"
That wasn't because of the recent developments, that was because he saw what she was doing and why she's doing it.
Look at her as she left. If she was boy crazy and all in love and shit she wouldn't have acted like that
She's made more of a fuss and fit when they told her she can't see Pastor Tim than when he told her it was time to go home last night lol

i just realized the Americans is on the short-list of my favorite Dramas of all time

in no order

the Americans
the Wire
the Sopranos
breaking bad
& Game of Thrones

I'm telling you.... I'm about to binge watch this shit from the beginning again. There are so many details like the necklace and Phillip's relationship to his Russian son's mother that I need to go back and see again. Plus I think it will be cool... knowing what I know now.... to see how Elizabeth treated Phillip back in the beginning. I mean dude spent the entire first season just trying to get her to show some emotions toward him.

she was so cold to him. didn't know if they were going to last. but that's why it drew you in because its supposed to be a spy show but really their relationship was falling apart and it was the main attraction... while they were doing super secret spy shit.
past lovers appearing for both of them and everything. it was wild.
evolved complex relationship.
fucking someone else means nothing at all. its crazy.
elizabeth posed as his sister as he married martha.. just think about that lol.
elizabeth didn't care he was married to her fucking her and everything she only was semi hurt when she thought he actually cared for her.

Damn i didn't even think of that.... but yeap... you are right.

She's immediately jumped into the protect henry role. She's in on the secret now. She's a teenager though she's not going to ease into it. she's not being groomed and trained. that's why Philip is so furious and scared. they had a choice. they made it. they got trained to handle every situation. they were built for this. She's been a regular kid sheltered and now she's trying to play in a world where people die. There are real consequences that Philip doesn't want her to face ever in her life. But it's too late for that.

This is also why i was saying I don't know if Henry will do it inadvertent because he just won't be around any of them long enough to spill any notable beans next year. Especially now with them not trusting stan all over again. He won't be alone with the kid or stan.

it can't possibly end well for her. She just married a dude she can't talk about, can't live with, can't do anything but meet and fuck and go to dinner 100 miles away from where they actually live while bugging her bosses office with some shit right at the time they've found a bug in the dudes office so more than likely they're going to be sweeping shit :smh:

Nina is crazy, what the fuck is she gone do?

didn't end well for martha did it? lol whisked away to "russia"

I do. she's overstepping and putting herself in a horrible position by revealing she was the mole. Even if she does succeed they're still gonna kill her ass

What I said about nina lol. They did. Cold as fuck too.

Can't that's why it seemed like a last hurrah. Send me to jail or let me redeem myself (get revenge)

I hope that he doesn't lose his family because of it (fbi agent) meaning they go after his kid or his wife , or better yet order Phil and his wife to carry out the orders.

He did. Stan lost his family and they didn't need phil to carry out the orders to do it

Phillip will see eventually that his daughter was built for the spy game just like her parents. It's funny as he's using Kimberly to get close to the CIA guy he sees his daughter in her and is caught between doing his job and the feelings he has for Paige.

They need to get rid of the pastor and the only way to do it is to bring her into the fold.

got damn i know what i be talking about sometimes.

And this was only effective because of the years of character development. These last two seasons are really the first time that you have seen Elizabeth jealous over Martha... Especially this last one. This is night and day from season 1.

Yup when a character is allowed to grow, things make sense. Don't matter what it is. She could be cold or she could evolve but because there's a history here it all makes sense.

lets not forget paige is as much a victim as martha and all the others her parents have used over the years. For all her life till recently she was /is an American teenager with the normal white american life. Now she's the american daughter of agents from her home lands sworn enemies the "bad guys" Russia!
Dude 95% of adults couldn't make that adjustment what do expect a teen to do. Plus her brother still doesn't know so now she has become apart of the perpetual lie.
That's a mind fuck on it's own level.

Spy tears are the hardest tears there is.
Ol boy hung on as long as he could without saying shit then got delirious sucks we have to wait a year to see what he did or didn't say.
Hilarious polar opposite reactions. The father is happy his son is getting some. The other father is mortified his daughter is giving it up. lmao.
His son is coming to America to see dad. If he finds him the jig is all the way up. He ain't got no training no nothing. He coming in fresh off the boat with the thick accent and everything. They really going to have to move back to Russia if he finds him

He's going to find the development Philip lives at, fuck up and knock on Stan's door, speaking Russian, asking for Philip.

Wow...

I'm hearing people HATED this finale?

WTF?!?!?

I was underwhelmed. It didn't reveal much and didn't end to make you come back for more.

They wasted several minutes introducing us to Philips son. I think that could have been saved for the first episode of the next season.

I was hoping for more news about Martha and more revelations from the chemist.

Loyal fans, like us are going to come back, but it just wasn't your typical exciting season finale. With a show that is very slow moving and requiring lots of focus the entire season, people are expecting a bigger payoff for the investment in the season finale.

Why would he ask for Philip? Ain't his name Mishka or some russian shit like that? lol
But more than likely what's going to happen given his mother has given him instructions he has to follow is he's going to call ol girl at the call center and then say what he's prompted to say and then they're going to meet at a bowling alley or some shit away from prying eyes. the only way stan and them will know about it is if they already suspect him and they put a tail on him. that seems more likely judging by him having multiple passports and different types of money. he ain't coming to town with a bandana with his clothes wrapped up inside of it on a stick...

the Americans has always excelled a nuanced show. Personally i loved the finale and didnt mind that the normal fireworks of a finale were missing.
the show is coming to end in 20+ episodes and the finale got us closer to the end game with the noose tighting around the Jennings household

Micha is coming to America
the scientist got captured and the Centre dont what he may have revealed
Paige is in a relationship with the son of an FBI agent
Pastor Tim & his wife know about Jennings secret
the Centre is complete disarray with the director getting kicked out the country

they are streamlining the show (Nina RIP, Martha - gone, Gaad - dead, Oleg & the director - back to Russia, Kimmy a complete afterthought this season, the scienteest dead, the black female factory work dead) and imagine going forward will focus the central plot of the show. How long can the Jennings family survive as spies

I don't see paige as a victim at all. She wanted to be included in something bigger. If anything her curious nature has been rewarded. Her parents never used her they went out of their way to not include either of them in their stuff. I could see if it was like Mcnulty on the wire having his sons tail stringer bell or some shit.. but they've been completely removed. Paige included herself. Paige got on that bus. Paige kept badgering them. Paige acted out and went to religion to find a purpose. What happened is paige is the type that NEEDS to feel a part of something. Doesn't matter what it is. But she needs something else to be fulfilled which is ironically the PERFECT recruit for the centre. Paige is who Elizabeth would've been if they traded places. If Paige was the mom and Elizabeth was the daughter who grew up in america we'd see it play out the exact same way.

The thing about this show is that it's not like other shows. The setup is the payoff on this show.

We don't know what the chemist said.. doubt.
Martha will be touched on but we have to wait and see.
The residence is gone.. up in smoke.. they've put in some damn good work but now how is it going to play out?
Phil and Liz are back full throttle not trusting stan and its going to effect the relationship and interactions between them. Are they going to make up travel business as being busy again as an excuse to not hang out and shit after they just had several months to chill with him?
Paige is all in and what can they do about it to stop it?
Their handler finally agrees its time to go back to russia HOWEVER there's a difference between talking shit and stuff actually happening. Their bluff has been called. It's great to talk about the idea and work out the logistics knowing in the back of your mind its not going to happen
It's another for them to be like ok today is move day.. suddenly its real and you see the look on their faces.. they don't want to move. If they did they wouldn't have been at home that night. They want to find a way to stay.
Paige is the real issue. The center gets what it wants.
The biggest twist which probably would never happen is, if the center insists on using Paige as an operative, and they make the choice to basically turn themselves in to keep her from russia's hands.
There's just so much going on you have to take the summer to digest it all. This isn't shoot em up oh shit and oh here's martha in a coffee shop reading the kama sutra
this is.. well damn we have some decisions to make and we need a year to make em.

I disagree.

This was not a introduction jumping in point episode

far from it.

this was for the fans of the series and this season...

there were so many damn payoffs it wasn't even funny.

And with the assurance that we will have 2 more seasons to wrap up this story properly it was exactly what is expected.

Anything else would have went against the entire heart of the show.

The Americans is like a trying to tightly clench your fist for 45 minutes...

it is the definition of anticipation intelligence and suspense.

this WAS a set up not just for next season but for the end of the series.

No one just DIES on this show every death has meaning...

every disagreement has multiple meanings so does every handshake hug and kiss.

If you didn't like that's fine but it was a culmination of years of intrigue angst and conflict...

you aint down for that the show just aint for you.

This show is all about the slow payoff.. Like Nina's scientist in Russia. You know that shit is going to come back in some fashion when dude figures out what happened to her. In his mind she was just transferred. Also Clarke's gift to Martha was dropped in season 1 and its just now coming back into play like the mail robot.

Side note.. The Centre still doesn't know that the mail robot was compromised.

I agree with you that it is Paige who pushed the issue and sought out more, I agree that this was all her actions that led down this path. Paige is still a victim in all this
it's not like these are her friends or neighbors she didn't fall in with the wrong crowd she discovered some shit about her parents. Paige has no other family to turn to
no one to help her understand what's going on besides her parents whom she just found out aren't what or who they're pretending to be. You think she should have just been cool with it and act like nothing happened? would you act that way finding out your at her age your parents were wanted for insider trading sitting on millions and FBI were hunting them down for all your life.
Paige is a teen and kids push boundaries. Yes I blame her parents, you're both foreign agents how in the fuck could you think you can keep this hidden from your kids forever? Not include them what happens when you're ordered home? like it or not they should have been indoctrinating their kids from jump, instead they used them as part of their cover the typical american family and yes used
paige didn't have much of choice but to embrace and understand what her parents are doing , they're her parents where else can she go?
Where would you have gone?

Decided to say fuck it... I didn't have plans for today. I noticed that Season 1, 2, and 3 are on Amazon. So let the binge begin.

DAMN RIGHT

and he COULD have f*cked Stan's ex too.

I thought this was a blooper but it was in the first episode.

Ok after looking at the first season again... I'll say that Paige is about 30% into Matt. Also I completely forgot how hot Nina was that first season.

I did not fam....

it made perfect sense these dudes were damn near ready to go against god and country for her.

Real talk... does anynody understand what the hell drove Burov to turn traitor???

A few things:

1) Nina's death. After all she did to make good, they still executed her. Some people think that storyline went on too long, but I think it affected Oleg in a big way.

2) His parents grieving about his brother's death. And to make things worse, he didn't receive a funeral with military honors because the government was trying to downplay how bad things were going in Afghanistan. :smh:

3) Russia lacking the resources to keep up with U.S. technology. After the story Oleg told Tatiana about the Russian satellite malfunction that almost started a nuclear war, he knew they couldn't be trusted to handle dangerous biological weapons. :smh:

Yeah I hear you on all those points. I guess thats why he decided to get out the game.

To be honest I always expected him to try to kill Stan. Lets be honest, what happened to Nina was all Stan's doing. And when Stan had the chance to save her, he chose not to.

I dont know how Burov just let that shit slide.
