Sony is acting like that kid that got a BMW, but instead he wants a shitty Jaguar. I mean, why make billions when you could make millions... :smh:

If Sony was smart. Or if it was me. I would just give Marvel / Kevin Feige My Spiderman Catalog with Venom, Hunter, Craven, etc.. and Let Marvel Studios Produce the Movies and work out a 70/30 Deal or shit even 50/50.

Why Take Back Spiderman when you do not have a love or passion about the Stories or ComicBook in General. When Sony takes back Spiderman you know they are going to fuck it up.

Without Marvel Studios there is no way the next Spiderman is going to do a billion dollars, and then when it underperforms. Your going to look stupid.

Yeah, nobody's gonna read back through this whole thread but there are numerous posts saying that Sony had better come to their senses. It seems they have. They were in a no-win situation as far as THE BOTTOM LINE is concerned. There is no way on the world the next Spidey movie without Marvel wasn't going to be compared to the Marvel Spidey. And you know people were going to trash it. And stay away in droves. See: Dark Pheonix. Jared Leto? Please. Venom? Ha. Nobody cares about them if you could have Spidey as an Avenger against the X-Men.

It's all about money and they were leaving billions on the table by being petulant. Once the Mouse TV stream goes live the tie-ins and easter eggs are gonna be off the chain. Do you want a piece of this or not?

And BTW, what's wrong with Stan Lee's daughter? Who put a bee in her bonnet? I've never heard anything about what she's accusing Marvel of. Marvel made her father (AND HER) multi-millionaires. What is her problem?

I think the 2nd trilogy of true sets up Spider-Man as the "Ironman" to bridge two properities and introduce the FF and X-Men into Phase 5...

The Original Amazing Friends was suppose to be Johnny Storm and Iceman but Marvel has fucked property rights all the way back in the 80's... couldn't use J.Storm so they created Firestar....

And don't forget Disney+ will probably be streaming all the old Spider-Man cartoons...

NEW SPIDER-MAN DEAL RUMORED TO INCLUDE 7 MOVIES, AVENGERS, MORE
Matt McGloinPosted: 08/22/2019 - 20:2336 Comments

It is being rumored that Disney has offered Sony another deal over keeping Spider-Man in the MCU, which includes a seven-picture deal, new Avengers films, an appearance at the D23 Expo and more.

The info comes from TVO from the Lords of the Long Box YouTube channel and his insider source who has connections at Disney Marvel.

New Spider-Man Deal possibly underway with Disney, Marvel and Sony
According to the new deal Disney wants:

- A 6-picture deal with Tom Holland, with an option for a 7th.

- There are three more Spider-Man films after Spider-Man 3, which will be a new trilogy.

- The second trilogy will focus on Peter Parker's college years including plans for Peter to meet up and team up with Firestar and Ice Man of the X-Men (based in part on the old Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends cartoon).

- The other three movies are two Avengers films in which Spider-Man will have a larger role and become friends with Johnny Storm (Human Torch from the Fantastic Four).

- Marvel Studios will helm and co-finance all Spider-Man related movies for 30% of the full profits (Disney previously wanted 50%, but Sony said no, which led to the talks falling apart).

- Sony would distribute, but Disney will acquire exclusive digital and online rights for Disney Plus and affiliated TV networks.

- Marvel Studios will helm and co-finance SpiderVerse live-action spinoffs under the same terms.

- Venom will relocate into the MCU.

- Sony will be given permission for TV live-action programs based on SpiderVerse properties (Sony only has film rights to Spider-Man, but needs permission from Disney for TV rights)

- Disney wants the deal to be done before Saturday's Marvel panel at D23 Expo.

- Spider-Man is also said to be a part of a D23 Expo panel.

Additional details:
- It's said Tom Holland wants to stay with the MCU (it's been reported both Holland and Zendaya unfollowed Sony on Instagram).

- If Sony was purchased by another company (like Apple), the Spider-Man film rights would go back to Disney, which Disney would love.

- Disney wants to take out Netflix and dominate the streaming world, making their shareholders happy, which includes Marvel Studios now working with Marvel TV (former Marvel TV Netflix characters are rumored to be coming to FX).

Previous Disney Sony Spider-Man talks fell through
Regarding what started everything with the previous talks between Disney and Sony falling apart, it was reported that Disney wanted a 50/50 co-financing arrangement between the studios, which would extend to other Spider-Man related films, and that Disney would also get 50% of the box office, with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige getting full producer credit.

It's said Sony wanted to keep their initial deal with Disney, which saw Disney only get a minuscule amount off the top of the box office gross for the solo films, while Marvel would still produce the solo Spider-Man films, but that Spidey would still be able to be used as appearances in other MCU movies, while Disney also gets all the merchandising revenue.

Reportedly, Sony didn't accept the Disney offer of 50%, with Disney not wanting to renew the current contract, which led to talks falling apart.

After looking at this rumor... I could see this being legit.

It's Sony being allowed to make TV live-action programs for Spiderverse shit... that makes me think this could be legit. That would be a huge get for Sony.. cause right now.. They can only make money from Spiderman through film profits.

Nah. Ain't nobody checkin' for anything Spidey that's not Marvel-related. Oh sure, they'll get some benefit from it but, with every Marvel-Spidey movie, he becomes more and more entrenched in the MCU. In fact AS WELL AS IN THE MINDS OF MOVIEGOERS. Right now people look at anything Spidey that ain't Marvel attached as second-rate. This will only increase that perception. Once again, the Mouse moving knights and bishops and Sony trying to get kinged.

And then there's this:
- Sony would distribute, but Disney will acquire exclusive digital and online rights for Disney Plus and affiliated TV networks.

I don't even need to explain how massive Disney is going to be.

Into the Spiderverse wasn't Marvel related it won an oscar and made 375 million on a 90 million budget.

Right now Sony can only used these characters in Movies..... allowing them to make Shows is huge cause they don't have merchandising rights and the real money in this shit is Merchandising...... Which is why they continue to kick themselves in the Ass for losing merchandising rights to Marvel. Tv rights open up another sources of revenue and for a Struggling Film division like Sony.. They need all the sources they can get.

Like I said, they'll realize some benefits but nothing like Disney will if they have EXCLUSIVE TV rights for the properties, ie. Spidey or Spidey-related movies. Plus, without Marvel Spidey movies value decreases.

Spiderverse is a cartoon bro. 375 mil is peanuts compared to big cartoons like The Incredibles and such. But, now Disney would own exclusive rights to broadcast it, right?

Ain't no way you can spin this as a win for Sony with the exception being they didn't slit their own throats.

This is actually genius marketing by Sony and Disney...

This deal, if true, allows Sony to be the official Spider-Man Multiverse/Spiderverse home and allows Disney to kept the MCU intact...

So Sony can make Spider-Man animated, films and shows under the Spiderverse Banner.... without confusing casuals with MCU related material...

So all of the previous Sony Films and Animation are now canon and can be rebranded as Sony's Spiderverse ....

Spiderverse = Sony
MCU = Disney

Both Wins for Marvel and fans

this is WOW..

but I'm a little confused on the TV rights part...

So according toi thee NEW deal

BOTH Sony and Marvel would be able to do Spiderverse TV shows?

- Marvel Studios will helm and co-finance SpiderVerse live-action spinoffs under the same terms.

- Sony will be given permission for TV live-action programs based on SpiderVerse properties (Sony only has film rights to Spider-Man, but needs permission from Disney for TV rights)

they protect their ip and brand
and they can do it much much better than Sony

if this is real it means no Marvel movie gets made without Marvel Studios over seeing it

Next Post-‘Spider-Man’ Skirmish For Sony & Disney: A Tug Of War Over ‘Spider-Man’ Helmer Jon Watts?
jon-watts-e1566584770188.jpg

EXCLUSIVE: As the dust settles on the Disney/Marvel and Kevin Feige exit from the Sony’s Spider-Man franchise, the next looming tug of war might well be over director Jon Watts, who catapulted from the small budget Sundance film Cop Carto the A-list helmer of the $880 million grosser Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home, which just surpassed the 007 film Skyfall to become Sony’s highest ever grossing film at $1.11 billion.

I’m told that Watts was only bound to the Spidey franchise as director for those two pictures and that it’s no certainty he will be back to direct Tom Holland in the third installment being written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. They wrote the record breaker Spider-Man: Far From Home.

I’m told he’s being courted by Marvel. It is understandable that Marvel and Feige would want to keep things going with Watts: Feige has a strong track record of helping to change the career trajectory of filmmakers who wouldn’t have been automatic choices for mega-budget superhero films, from Joe & Anthony Russo to Taika Waititi, James Gunn and Scott Derrickson. As for one-upsmanship, there are bruised feelings between those studios over the Rashomon-like press narratives that followed Deadline’s scoop, over who did what in dismantling a brilliantly orchestrated introduction of a hit superhero franchise. It has gotten so bad that some wonder if it would even be possible for them to rethink things and come to terms on Spider-Man.

On those talks that Deadline revealed Tuesday: I continue to hear from reliable sources that the notion Feige was too busy to do more Spider-Man films just doesn’t hold water; he loves the character and the way those movies served the fans and the Marvel Universe. I continue to hear that Disney asked for a 25% stake where it would finance that much of the movie and receive that much of the equity upside. This arrangement would only have been for any pictures that involved Marvel & Feige. It wasn’t a forever deal, like the time one Sony made years ago to continue as distributor of James Bond. Back then, Sony cut MGM into a co-financing relationship on the pictures The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and 21 Jump Street, that gave MGM rights to co-finance future installments. The Spider-Man deal was only for pictures where Marvel lent Feige and the weight of its brand and cross pollination in Marvel movies. Still, it was a big ask of Sony, which had been getting a relative bargain at 5% of first dollar gross. That 25% offer sat for a half year, and finally the conversation was the 50% co-fi stake, before Disney called the whole thing off.

It will be interesting to see what Watts does, but his reps at CAA have enviable leverage if he chooses to direct another Spider-Man, or a Marvel movie, or a blockbuster from any other studio. Stay tuned.
