Prometheus.........

Re: Prometheus fucking sucked

Da shit was straight. Caught da 1 AM movie last night at Atlantic Station in 3D. But like some of y'all said, that shit had a few plot holes & a few questions went unanswered. And yes, da 3D was amazing.

Re: Prometheus fucking sucked

I was thinking...maybe the black substance the engineer ingested at the beginning of the film is the same black fluid from the urns containing the xenomorph genetic make up (as well as the same black fluid the droid dropped into the guys drink). In a way humans could be directly related to the xenomorphs. Depending on how the black goo is manipulated you can either create life or destruction. Whatever is in those urns got loose on the engineer's ship and destroyed the crew save one "creater". They probably realized the negative implications of using the black substance and decided to clean up all loose ends attached to it..... including earth. The black goo/humans could have been an experiment gone wrong considering they were headed to earth to clean slate that bitch. I don't know man...the movie was great IMO. Its was suppose to leave you with those questions that will probably be answered and bait you into watching later films. A must watch for fans of the franchise and scifi buffs.

I think the black Goo breaks life down to it's most simple compounds then accelerates the cellular structure it envelopes. I'm starting to think the Engineer sacrificed himself to help create human life on Earth. Later when they weren't happy with Earth they decided to head back and release the back goo and start over.

Re: Prometheus fucking sucked

I enjoyed the movie, and I'm a true fan of the original ALIEN movie. Prometheus did exactly what I it expected it do and tell me(the story of the Space Jockey). I really don't know what other people expected from the movie. My only issue/problem/puzzle/question, is at the end, when the SJ goes after Shaw, makes me wonder, how is this possible? Did RScott have this done this way, cause something else happened after this to lead up to ALIEN? What I'm asking is how is this the SJ from ALIEN, if he dead on the escape pod? In the classic scene from ALIEN, SJ is clearly in the seat, ready for take off, with a hole from a "ChestBurster"? Can any of the real fans chime in on this little loop hole?

Re: Prometheus fucking sucked

I thought it was ok movie, but instead of being scared of the aliens.
I would be scared of the crew!! they were backstabbing assholes!!

This dude here points out that, IIRC, the space-jockey from the first movie was fossilized(?). :idea:if that IS true that would have to mean that the died thousands of years ago:idea:...

Re: Prometheus fucking sucked

well he's wrong on one part. he said the events in Prometheus do not affect the events in Alien. That's wrong because, even though the jockey from Alien is not in the movie, it is implied by when the outbreak occurred, that the jockey from Alien was chestbursted as a result of the outbreak that happened to the rest of the jockeys.

You saw how quick the spidery egg layer with the tail's outer core & casing 'fossilized' on dike's face in the Alien flick.
When the 4-ped 1st gen shit that grew out of her chest attacked the SJ who came into the pod looking for her, that shit crusted up instantly too if Im not mistaken.

David also said that there were more ships & that he SAW one so I assumed that there are many others hibernating with big assed ships somewhere.

There was supposedly only about 125 yrs that passed between Prometheius & Alien.

& Maybe the version I had was missing something but I actually never heard Idris kick his famous line from the commercials that the Prometheius has landed
:dunno:

Maybe the jockey shown in Alien was one of the ones running that made it through the door b4 it chopped the last one's head off.

peace

Re: Prometheus fucking sucked

If Prometheus was a television series that debuted on TV it would be epic because it will have you anticipating the next episode to find out the answers to question that were left unanswered.

Problem with a movie is that it can kill the experience.

Because of the atmosphere, could also be the cause of the SJ being fossilized in ALIEN. But it doesn't explain how or what happened for the SJ to make it back to the ship. So I'm guessing they may not even be the same planet. Or was another engineer awaken during the crash?

More ships means more engineers. So I'm thinking one woke up, was attacked jumped into the seat to leave, well you know the rest...

i think in the actual movie it was muffled up by the engine noises

Re: Prometheus fucking sucked

Maybe reading that bowlshit script in advanced had you feeling some sort of way with preconceived expectations & whatnot.

I didnt really look @ it that way, was connected to how bugged & in their own zones each character was without a whole lot of character development but its an Alien type flick.

Who the FUCK was she gonna tell once she realized that that mofucka David was way too cool & collected to have any more of a concern than making sure it was in her the second he told her that she COULDNT see the pic of it? Her man aint even tell her shit about how his eye was bleeding/leaking iris matter into his whites when he 1st saw it. David did ask her if he hit that.

I definitely can relate to your last statement but hey :dunno: that's the way it is especially when they chose to have chick want to go back, thinking she;s gonna get a "Why?" answer & not plucked into space like a boogah, 'hand forced' back into a wall like duke did after he took care of them other two assholes or just put in a jar like a bug for the rest of her life.

regarding, the fake script, i found out it was a fake about a week or so before the movie came out, so I had no expectations about it from that angle.

If you're trying to insinuate that she couldn't trust anyone and that's why she didn't tell them that she gave birth to a sqid-thing, then why did she go back with them to the facility?:smh:

Re: Prometheus fucking sucked

response below.

Dude, I get what you are saying. I'm pointing them out as flaws. In our fossil record, the earliest humans were from Africa, why should the earliest fossil record for the Engineers be in Scotland. The point the director choose this is my beef. Just like making the Engineers pale white.

The fact that these dudes all got merck'd by their own shit I have a problem with. The fact that the ship itself had no weapons when the dialog clearly states that there are warships available. No megalomaniac would fly across space without the top of the line everything.

The fucking captain and the two mates just being ok with dying? :smh::smh:

The scientists just pulling off their helmets in an alien environment? Anthrax, flu, bacteria? Hello???

Shit was bad, very bad. :smh:

Maybe they were in another part of the ship. Or maybe it's another different planet. Or maybe a gaping fucking plot hole!!!

Nobody implied that it was even the same ship or jockey. How many times has it been said Prometheus is NOT an alien prequel. What you claim to be a plothole is actually your misunderstanding of what the movie is. Also, you said the captain is just "ok" with dying. In the movie, he clearly says he will do whatever he has to do to stop the goo from making it back to Earth, well before it comes time for him to ram the ship.

Yeah man. Some of the shit they are calling plot holes were answered in the movie but I guess these fuckers were not paying attention or they have short term memory. Better yet selective memory.

That's why I gave y'all choices.

But, if it's a different ship, where did the chest buster come from? :hmm:

I guess you guys are willing to stretch credulity because you're fans, I'm a fan too. I saw the first movie in a theater as a kid and this movie lacks so much of the first 2 it makes my sak hurt. :smh:

I'm not willing to overlook obvious plot holes in this movie. Don't call it a prequel? Fine, but to say it was good...well, that 3D must have been off the chain cause the story was bad.

All of the dead jockeys were either chestbursted or head exploded. did you not see the Xenomorph mural on the wall in the ampule chamber? the jockeys make these things. probably through sacrifice.
This painting is from HR Giger himself, the creator of the alien creature.

Re: Prometheus fucking sucked

The Nostromo landed on LV-425 or 426 something. The Prometheus landed on LV-223.

Prometheus happens about 30-40 before Alien: earlier events, same Universe, different settings. It's not a direct prequel. Its sole purpose was to establish Weyland-Utani's motive's for the later films, identify the Space Jockeys, and demonstrate another aspect of the Xenomorph biological adaptation.

Re: Prometheus fucking sucked

the film's other screenwriter, jon spaihts, had a script called Shadow 19 that was originally was going to be retitled Prometheus(wouldve been a trip if ridley turned this into a film instead)..been online for a while now

Re: Prometheus fucking sucked

The crazy thing is when they carbon tested the dead engineers body they estimated he had been dead for 2000 years. Well based on when the movie takers place it insinuates that the engineers were headed back to earth around the time Christianity was booming after the death of Jesus. We're they upset that these new religious humans were not praying to them anymore? Why else was shaws cross so important through out the movie?

I don't see this movie as a normal prequel but more so using the Alien movies as a backdrop to developing a series of movies that are focused on figuring out the story behind creation. If the engineers made humans, well who made them? That was a question asked in the movie.

I am very interested in seeing the future direction of this movie, alot of potential here.

I just hope every movie doesn't end with a question like that.

Not to start a religious discussion but I want to add a bit of information not common to most Christians.

According to Islam, Jesus did not die or was not crucified 33 years after his birth. It was only made to appear that way.

Some muslims believe the person known to Christians as Jesus live to 120 years old.

Jesus was born 33 BC or -33 AD.

The expedition began in 2091.

2091 + (33) = 2124.

Subtract the life of Jesus from 2124 and you arrive at 2004 years.

The launch of the expedition that arrived 2 years later 2093.

The man responsible for this expedition is name Peter, which mean Rock in Greek and he is the cornerstone figure in Christianity. Elisabeth which means God's promise in the inspiration for the expedition. She is the lone survivor and she remained faithful while heading to the Engineer's homeworld with an Android name David, who's name means Beloved.

There is a lot of Christianity in this movie.

Re: Prometheus fucking sucked

nobody questioning shaw as to why she's bloody & knocked out 2 members of the crew? forget about her abdomen being stapled and is up and running, you mean she forgot to tell the rest of the crew "hey guys i just gave birth to a fucking squid"?

so david was 'experimenting'? to what end? why would it make sense for the android to experiment with a substance that nobody has a clue about, with one of the key scientists trillions of miles from home?

It's weyland's money, mission, and ship, yet he pretends to be dead for a significant portion of the story:hmm:

they're on a mission to an alien world to hopefully meet with alien creatures. yet as soon as they find alien bodies, (not living creatures, bodies) two of the scientists, turn pussy and want to leave. strangely though they get lost, even though the cavern is digitally mapped out, (the rest of them are not too concerned though) and when they do encounter a live alien life form, one of them tries to pet it, even though it seems obviously aggressive (which is something i would expect in a b horror flick).

traveling light years to a strange world to meet alien creatures, and money's no object? why not hire more than a few ex soldier mercs, hell why not outfit the ship with some heavy artillery?

the engineer's dna matches human 100% WTF??? and not one of those "scientists" question the accuracy of this? human beings do not match each other 100% (very close but not 100%) except for identical twins. so let me get this straight; an engineer "seeds" life on earth, the evolutionary process happens, and a billion or so years later humans come onto the scene, yet somehow we're 100% them? :smh:

sj wakes up, kills everyone in the room without saying hello, and shaw's brilliant plan is to go to their home planet by herself to do....?

but hey, maybe i have adhd and couldn't focus on the plot of the film:rolleyes:

As much as I enjoyed it, the movie had 55 caliber sized holes in it. Sir Ridley needs to hire an actual Writer next one out, not these hack writers, who write bullshit.

Re: Prometheus fucking sucked

A movie like this CAN'T answer the main question posed in the film - why were we created?

You can't answer it because no answer will be good enough.

So you just can't. Sucks, but that's how it is.

David caused the infection that led to her impregnation. He was in contact with his highers the entire time. The lack of surprise from those attending the elder Weyland suggested that group was all more than aware of her ordeal. By that time everything had turned to shit. I'm sure the rest of crew didn't need to know, or they'd have quarantined her, especially Janek.

so david was 'experimenting'? to what end? why would it make sense for the android to experiment with a substance that nobody has a clue about, with one of the key scientists trillions of miles from home?
Weyland-Utani has always been about power, and the Engineers and the Xeno-goo represent ultimate power. David could read the language and could conduct his own experiments on Weyland's behalf. Mainly because of David's ablities, Holloway and Shaw were not essential to the expedition anyway. They were just extra bodies there for if nothing else, Weyland's peace of mind.

It's weyland's money, mission, and ship, yet he pretends to be dead for a significant portion of the story:hmm:
He was in stasis. He figured he only had a few days left and didn't want to be up longer than he needed to be. And he certainly didn't want to deal with any BS. That was David's job. He didn't want to die on the ship before he had a chance to meet his makers.

The guy with heavy accent said rather bluntly that he was a geologist. They really weren't a contact team, just a bunch specialists. Some of them were bound to freak out. The probes mapped the caverns, but they still needed to be explored and documented. The one guy found himself in awe of the alien life form. Scientific curiosity got the best of him.

traveling light years to a strange world to meet alien creatures, and money's no object? why not hire more than a few ex soldier mercs, hell why not outfit the ship with some heavy artillery?
They had to raise a trillion dollars to fund everyone and everything that went on the voyage. More people and mercs would just have complicated something that they didn't need to be any more complicated than it already was. Besides, they apparently really didn't anticipate hostility. It was supposed to look like an archaeological expedition though and through.

They said we're identical. The point was that we are obviously closer to them than we are to other apes, but not 100%. Also at many stages in early development, a lot of animals including humans look very similar. You could reason that in the world of Prometheus, humanity's evolution was assured from the nature of the original seeding. It was just a matter of time before we popped up.

I've only seen it once so far, but I think I've a grasp of the major stuff. Discussions will lead to more understanding for everyone though. I'm eager to find out more about other peoples perceptions.

Which would make some sense except that Shaw doesn't seem interested in the slightest to let anybody know that she gave birth to this monster and what implications that may have.

so david was 'experimenting'? to what end? why would it make sense for the android to experiment with a substance that nobody has a clue about, with one of the key scientists trillions of miles from home?

So this trillionare who could in theory afford to have 3 or 4 experts of the same field for the purpose of 'sacrificing' a few, chooses to have the android use this unknown substance without any idea whatsoever on how it may affect the ability to get back to earth.

It's weyland's money, mission, and ship, yet he pretends to be dead for a significant portion of the story:hmm:

Fair enough about being in stasis longer. However, why go out of the way to make the crew believe that he was dead?

they're on a mission to an alien world to hopefully meet with alien creatures. yet as soon as they find alien bodies, (not living creatures, bodies) two of the scientists, turn pussy and want to leave. strangely though they get lost, even though the cavern is digitally mapped out, (the rest of them are not too concerned though) and when they do encounter a live alien life form, one of them tries to pet it, even though it seems obviously aggressive (which is something i would expect in a b horror flick).

So this trillionare could not afford for these 'specialists' to be trained before the mission started so that they would be an actual contact team? So they left cuz they were creeped out by a dead alien, but one was intrigued enough by a live one to touch it despite it showing obvious signs of aggression?

traveling light years to a strange world to meet alien creatures, and money's no object? why not hire more than a few ex soldier mercs, hell why not outfit the ship with some heavy artillery?

Shaw and her boyfriend are convinced that the ancient paintings are invitations. They convince the old man to send an expedition trillions of miles from home to meet 'our creators'; he agrees. I don't remember any dialogue that gives the impression that they were strapped for cash for this expenditure. The old man doesn't strike me as a dumbass, so it would make more sense to have more weaponry, and security personnel on board, just in case. That ought to be nothing to him. Except the dumbass who wrote this didn't think so.

the engineer's dna matches human 100% WTF??? and not one of those "scientists" question the accuracy of this? human beings do not match each other 100% (very close but not 100%) except for identical twins. so let me get this straight; an engineer "seeds" life on earth, the evolutionary process happens, and a billion or so years later humans come onto the scene, yet somehow we're 100% them? :smh:

That's just bad, shoehorning of reasoning. Identical means 100% the same. If they meant 'almost' the same, then they would've said almost the same:smh:. Human evolution was guaranteed?:smh: Even if one were to suspend disbelief to accept that preposterous notion, it still falls flat. So all the lifeforms that descended from the original 'seeding' wasn't identical, but 1billion years later, some hairless apes came about that had identical dna?

Cuzzzz she's carrying a freaking android's severed head as proof of hostility. She convinced the ship's captain to kill himself and his co-pilots to stop the sj from destroying earth - or so she believed.WHY would she want to go to a planet full of them unarmed when she has no proof whatsoever that the rest are any less hostile?

BTW why the fuck were they sending invitations to a weapons facility?

Re: Prometheus fucking sucked

I always hate those comments that speculate on things they should've done - like going with more Merck, or training geologists to use weapons.

Tell you what, why didn't weyland say fuck everything and outfit himself with a suit that would be so intelligent he wouldn't need anyone, because it would provide him all the info he needed, then he could've went out there on his own?

See. Bullshit.

Re: Prometheus fucking sucked

Just saw it, wasn't really that great imo. But unless I'm missing something like some tracking device on the ship I overlooked, why did they assume that that small area they traveled was the only location on that gigantic planet that had these Engineers and that one Engineer was the last on the entire planet?

I don't think there were a lot of "plot holes" per se, just openings left too open and poorly implemented for a sequel.
