Prometheus.........

Re: Prometheus fucking sucked

(SPOILER ALERT!!!!)

The scene with the old man, ok I get the dude wants to meet the aliens, but he never even says what he's going to get from them to help him live.

Answer: It was more curiosity than anything. He had no plan but to introduce the android, and hope to build a bridge of diplomacy.

Why is it that when the lady saw the old man she was shocked, but Idris' character and other shipmates saw him they never batted an eye?

Answer: The 2 doctors are the only non-employees, so they would not know anything. (They thought they were special.)

Why the fuck did the robot infect the CAC with the alien in his alcohol? They never give his intentions

Answer: Apparently to culture and develop a real live alien life-form to bring to earth for study. He knew they were a couple, and nature would take it's course after alcohol.

How the fuck does a person have their internal organs cut, get stapled, and in less than 10 mins gets punched in the gut, fights, runs, and jumps all over the screen?

Answer: Adrenaline

What was the opening scene where the engineer eats the black ooze even about?

Answer: He was a scientist. Testing the ooze while the others stayed away in safe distance in the ship. When they saw what they had (bio-weapon), they realized humans were the bi-product of the bio weapon, and had to be wiped out. The engineer'd curiosity killed himself, and created humans.....humans curiosity killed engineers to create......Xeno's.

What were those holographic images running from?

Answer: Ship's security log.

If you can answer those then fine, but know I have a shit ton of other holes I can point out afterwards

answered your questions.

Re: Prometheus fucking sucked

Thumbs MOTHAFUCKIN' DOWN.

Aw man I am angry that THIS is what Scott did to, what could've been, a potentially KUBRICK level film.

I MUCH rather there had been a BOOK that I could've read as a companion piece to the movie. THEN, I could forgive it. But THIS?
It was SO SET UP to be classic, back to tooth and grit film making.
I just . . . man, nevermind.

Re: Prometheus fucking sucked

I really wanted to like this movie...I mean from when it was originally announced as a prequel to alien...there was a script floating around a few months back that really got me geeked up to watch; it was a fake, but i wish it was the real script. I honestly feel indifferent about prometheus after watching it. I mean that I felt no connection to any character, no questions were answered (who were the engineers, why did they send an "invitation" to the ancients, why were they assholes, etc).

What really made me not give a fuck about this movie was the part when homegirl had the surgery, and escaped the room...NOBODY ever questioned why she knocked out two people, and she never even bothered to mention to anyone that she almost gave birth to a tentacled monster.

the fucked up thing is that i don't even hate the movie,i'm just indifferent to it. Which is worse imo.

Re: Prometheus fucking sucked

I agree with those that said there's nothing particularly deep about asking questions that have been posed by mankind for thousands of years. Although I liked the movie, it would have been "deep" had the movie given more insight as to answers that author/writers have come up with. Actually, only then could we judge it as deep or not.

Re: Prometheus fucking sucked

Yall complaining way too much.. It was enjoyable for me.. If you want something deeper then look at the discovery channel or TLC. Its a damn movie... Cant wrap that whole story up in two hours...

Re: Prometheus fucking sucked

Prometheus was a good movie. So it does not suck or is boring. But the movie is not great.

The movie will hold your attention through out the movie but there are some parts of the movie that just did not make much sense. Almost as if they some parts could have been simply left off.

Re: Prometheus fucking sucked

I find it difficult to find anything at all that redeems this movie. Going into it with an open mind and, I have to say, eager anticipation, I came away with a sense of outrage at the cavalier treatment doled out by the producers upon an unsuspecting audience. This has been launched purely as a vehicle to make money, in my opinion, without any regard to the precious cinematic heritage of the Alien franchise that it was meant to protect and enhance.

On how many levels does it fail? Lack of sensible plot. Ridiculous truncation of scenes. Actors with only one line of dialogue. Wooden performances from Charlize Theron and Michael Fassbender, the latter cutting a very poor comparison to Lance Henriksen in "Aliens". Guy Pearce's character could have been a played by anybody. Eric Morecambe would have done for me.How many different types of aliens were there?? They range from tiny infestations to bizarre aquatic creatures to monstrous heavyweights who fell on their victims like over-enthusiastic sumo wrestlers. No suspense. And I mean ZERO suspense.Bad, bad error. Gratuitous sexual references that in no way enhanced the story. The truly ridiculous medi-lab scene where the lead female recovered from an abdominal operation and ran off down the corridor after a shot of painkiller. Can the NHS source a supply of that please? It will go down a storm in this country. ZERO emotional engagement with the audience.Correction. I personally wanted the entire cast dead in the shortest possible time. ALL dead.Dead I tell you. Not just a few, all of them, even the wooden ones. Does that count as empathy? Or sociopathy? It was the film's outstanding achievement for me.

If our ancestors wanted us obliterated why not just plough the Earth up and grow radishes instead. Or disintegrate us? Would you really create biological monsters that actually turned on YOU instead. I think not.But maybe they were just so much more stupid than we are-who knows.

There was a truly ghoulish delight in showing aliens forcing open people's throats. WhatEVER happened to imagination, a so much more potent weapon in the cinematic arsenal? And what about the firefight on the ramp. I would have been more interested if the Tiller Girls had suddenly danced in from the left.

Promotheus 2 and 3 might be on the horizon but I will probably opt to saw my feet off instead rather than receive free tickets. Anyone care to record that for posterity?

Re: Prometheus fucking sucked

people like you are jackasses. you're not smart. some of the things you guys say you dont understand, i understood flawlessly or at least made an educated inference based on what was given.

You can't be serious. I'm not smart because I asked good questions about the movie that were left either unanswered or never even touched?!? GTFOH. You sit there like fucking fanboys and make guesses and excuses for what you think that Scott meant with some of the shit in this movie and guess what?? Your guess is just as fucking wrong as the next person, until that nigga comes out and says what that shit meant you don't fucking know so stop with that dumb shit. "I made a educated inference" Lemme guess your a fucking scientist right? LMAO

The sad thing is, I went into this movie expecting greatness I fucking loved every alien movie, even some of the Alien vs Predator movies, but this was not a good movie to me.

Don't insult someones intelligence just because you "Think" you know what it was about. I never said some ppl wouldn't like the movie, I know there are hardcore fans, but even some of the hardcore, live and breathe this shit fans were left dissatisfied by this movie.

People who actually know about this stuff left this movie scratching their heads at it. I've been reading reviews all weekend about it.

Just face it, this isn't a very good movie.

Me and wifey was debating about going to see it tonight at Edge Water Movie theater but I guess we will make it a movie night when it gets to pirate bay on bluray

Know that theater & saw CaptAmerica & Avengers over there.
See if y'all can catch a matinee in that bitch
 @ PirateBay.
A flick has to be special for me to see nowadays & already knew I was gonna check this on a rough cam if I had to so I could splice & dice it the way I wanted while reviewing the classic out of '79 which was slow also since you DIDNT know wtf to expect.
Never thought it was slow IMHO

Maybe if I saw it in a theater & not around others where I couldnt cut it off, handle something & come back to when I felt like, I may have felt differently about it but kind of knew what I was expecting.

I really wanted to like this movie...I mean from when it was originally announced as a prequel to alien...there was a script floating around a few months back that really got me geeked up to watch; it was a fake, but i wish it was the real script. Maybe reading that bowlshit script in advanced had you feeling some sort of way with preconceived expectations & whatnot.

I didnt really look @ it that way, was connected to how bugged & in their own zones each character was without a whole lot of character development but its an Alien type flick.

Who the FUCK was she gonna tell once she realized that that mofucka David was way too cool & collected to have any more of a concern than making sure it was in her the second he told her that she COULDNT see the pic of it? Her man aint even tell her shit about how his eye was bleeding/leaking iris matter into his whites when he 1st saw it. David did ask her if he hit that.

I definitely can relate to your last statement but hey :dunno: that's the way it is especially when they chose to have chick want to go back, thinking she;s gonna get a "Why?" answer & not plucked into space like a boogah, 'hand forced' back into a wall like duke did after he took care of them other two assholes or just put in a jar like a bug for the rest of her life.

Sucker Punch sucked period...The only cool thing was the fight against the 3 samurai, and that part was too short.
Like watching that fat looking pussied, lil bowlegged big lips short chick catching wreck in that shit:dunno:. The self sacrifice for that other chick's sister was a decent scene to me also.

The action was just an interpretation of the hell them chicks were living that they only showed when shorty got there & @ the end when the cops came in.

It was what it was to me & served its purpose in entertaining.
Like fam said, it could have been a classic but he left room for discussion, intepretation & what have you.
he also knew exactly what he was doing when he said that this wasnt a pre-quel per se to what many may have thought about the franchise with all that reptilian resemblance with the xenomorph.

They used that same song from the train scene in an closing scene ep of MadMen & wondered if JohnHaim had anything to do with it.

Yall complaining way too much.. It was enjoyable for me.. If you want something deeper then look at the discovery channel or TLC. Its a damn movie... Cant wrap that whole story up in two hours...

I thought it was pretty good...it leaves a lot of discussion room, which is what Ridley Scott wanted...was not a boring moment in the whole movie to me

peace

Re: Prometheus fucking sucked

It was good to me. I don't know what people complaining about. I wasn't a masterpiece but it was worth the money. IMAX is the way to go!

Re: Prometheus fucking sucked

Agreed! The engineers were exciting to me and gave me a bit of that original Alien feel I was looking for. The other aliens were pathetic IMO.

here is a trusted opinion.

If you dismiss the plot holes, and clean off some of the mess it's a pretty good film and the premise is great. The idea of the engineers was cool. I liked the film, wasn't in love with it and it wasn't as deep as I thought it was going to be.

Re: Prometheus fucking sucked

As a fan of the Alien franchise I must say this movie was pretty awesome. I was pleased.

Re: Prometheus fucking sucked

I should have listened to you. I just came back from seeing it (well that and two other movies) and I was really disappointed. The plot had no depth. Things that were done seemed random, because there was no explanation. And the movie left too much unanswered. It's worth a watch on Blue ray, on one of those nights where you don't have shit else to do. But to pay $11--what I just spent to see it in 3D is a total waste. After the movie was over, I was so mad that it sucked so much that I sneaked into Men in Black III, and the Dictator, just to make the $11 bucks I spent worth it.

***Spoiler Alert***

After reading some of the replies, I feel compelled to delve deeper into why I disliked this movie. As far as Prometheus being a prequel to Alien, that's nonsense. The only tie-in to Alien was the ending, when that thing came out of the "Creator." The movie purposely failed to explain why the "creators" created humans, why they chose to destroy them, and why they decided to make that bio-agent as a means of accomplishing the latter. Granted, I understand the nihilistic implications behind the creators motives, but other than that their actions were completely random--thus the plot hole. Secondly, why did the Android infect the scientist? Thirdly, what was the plot function of killing the two scientists who were left behind? Moreover, what killed them, and why did they mutate like that? In none of the Alien movies did anyone ever mutate into a zombie like entity and go on an insane killing spree. The movie failed to explain any of those plot holes. Really, the only thing good about the movie was the visual spectacle it presented. Other than that the movie is completely unwatchable.

The answer is in the movie. There were plot holes but it doesn't have to explain why. It is pretty evident and it is given in the first ten minutes of the film.

Many times the purpose is just plain ole curiosity. That is the recurring theme of the movie. That is the only motivation needed.

Re: Prometheus fucking sucked

The crew of the Prometheus travel across the universe with questions about our beginning.
I went to see Prometheus with questions that were raised in the first Alien film.
Did anyone get answers?...Welll sort of.

33 years after the first Alien film Director Ridley Scott returns to that world with a bigger canvas
in which he paints much broader strokes.
Scott and writers Jon Spaihts, Damon Lindelof start the film with the timeless questions who made us?
why did he make us? where do we go when we die? This part of the film definitley appealed to my
religious side and he puts us on the same path as archaeologist couple Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and
Charlie Holloway (Logan Marshall-Green). They are filled with enthusiasm, and they have their facts and
theories but they long for that solid evidence, they long to question and touch their "creator".
I liken them to those that have faith and God in their hearts but they still need that person that preaches to them from the
pulpit every Sunday that physical being or thing to hold on to, the same way Shaw holds on to her cross on her necklace.

The 3D in the film is flawless. The wake from cryo sleep scene from Avatar came to mind when viewing Prometheus.
It is consistently beautiful and stunning.
Rapace is perfect as Shaw.Displaying that same vulnerable, toughness Sigourney Weaver displayed in the Alien films.
Marshall-Green is good as her partner and lover displaying the right amount of enthusiasm and disappointment.
As the android David, Michael Fassbender is perfect.I didnt quite know what his intentions were so it definitley made
him stand out.For the second week in a row Charlize Theron portrays an ice cold woman but this time with a little heat ,as the mission
director Meredith Vickers.Idris Elba as The Prometheus' captain Janek is the only other character that is a bit fleshed out aside
from Guy Pearce, as Peter Weyland elder CEO of Weyland Corporation who funds the mission. They both do well with
their small roles.Frightful, stomach churning ,want to look away moments are provided which i quite enjoyed.

The second half of the film is definitley not as thought provoking as the first half that annoying answer a question with a question thing happens.
There are various inconsitencies, predictable moments, and underdeveloped characters make beyond silly decisions.
The way the story jumps around in the second half,i could tell the film had been edited, maybe for time or to try to tighten up the story.
The actions and motivations of some of the characters are murky to the tenth power.

In some ways i understand why Scott allows the story to go down its open ended path. After watching his Alien story veer off and splinter
into so many other films and publications over the years,Scott wants to continue tell his own Alien story. But in doing so he sacrifices and
dilutes the stronger movie Prometheus could have been.

Promtheus is in no way a bad film but i guess i was expecting more of a solid story.Im not sure where the story goes from here, but im hoping
the DVD with extended scenes fill in the holes in this Alien chapter

Scale of 1-10 a 7½

Facts are facts and theories are theories. They are evidence that is has been tested. Shaw and Campbell have ideas and according to this movie's logic they are somewhat true as to the origins, but don't confuse that with fact.

As a matter of fact, the characters are highly improbably considering their level of expertise, and they don't really use the scientific method at all for coming to their conclusions. That is one of the many reasons why there are so many plot holes and fallacies.

Man....

These dudes created that shit to kill us, but sent a road map where to find them?

The earliest map was found in Scotland?

The damn engineer, as advanced as his is fights with his bare hands?

The damn president of the corp flies for over 2 years to meet these dudes and doesn't have any weapons on his own ship?

The bitch aborts the alien, doesn't say shit and just leaves it?

The Engineers have on helmets that make them appear to look like elephants? Then, they were running from something with the helmets on, but at the end, the one cat runs up on her ship with nothing? :smh:

This movie was a mess. If it wasn't related to Alien, it would be pure shit.

I have to say it was kinda bogus I tell you. I liked it as a sci-fi film but that's about it. The end where the xenomorph came out of the engineer was bullshit to me.

Re: Prometheus fucking sucked

Man....

These dudes created that shit to kill us, but sent a road map where to find them?

human conjecture; the engineers did not state their intentions for earth. nor did the robot have time to translate what little the creator did say.

The earliest map was found in Scotland?

white people made the movie and want Europe to be its mecca. you don't really think they'll let the creators be black and go to africa first do you?

The damn engineer, as advanced as his is fights with his bare hands?

He was awakened from cryosleep and immediately took to killing the invaders. (no time to get armor or weapons)

The damn president of the corp flies for over 2 years to meet these dudes and doesn't have any weapons on his own ship?

They had small hand weapons for a precautionary measure but no spaceship mounted weapons.

The bitch aborts the alien, doesn't say shit and just leaves it?

she encased it in the medical chamber and set the chamber to decontaminate. the alien was too resilient for the machine. I wouldn't say shit either with all that was happening....don't know who to trust.

The Engineers have on helmets that make them appear to look like elephants? Then, they were running from something with the helmets on, but at the end, the one cat runs up on her ship with nothing? :smh:

after awaking from cryosleep (no need for a helmet) he kills the closest humans then attempts to fly his ship (presumably to earth). the pilots chair engulfs his head for the heads up display and navigational controls. when the ship is destroyed by the humans and crash lands he runs to the human lifeboat...no time to search for a helmet. besides, the air was only toxic because of high levels of CO2 (3% clearly told in the movie) ...he could have simply held his breath until he got to the lifeboat. (or has a higher tolerance than the much smaller humans)

This movie was a mess. If it wasn't related to Alien, it would be pure shit.

I did not know Prometheus had anything to do with Aliens when I sat down to watch the movie.

I found the movie to be a solid 8.

I did not go expecting action.

I went with no presuppositions beyond thinking the movie would be like 2001 a space odyssey.

I was not disappointment.

I don't see all the plot holes. I knew I wasn't watching Avengers.

On another note.

Fuck Snow White and the Huntsman.

Str8 chick flick. My wife and daughter owe me for that $33 spent.

Re: Prometheus fucking sucked

I was thinking...maybe the black substance the engineer ingested at the beginning of the film is the same black fluid from the urns containing the xenomorph genetic make up (as well as the same black fluid the droid dropped into the guys drink). In a way humans could be directly related to the xenomorphs. Depending on how the black goo is manipulated you can either create life or destruction. Whatever is in those urns got loose on the engineer's ship and destroyed the crew save one "creater". They probably realized the negative implications of using the black substance and decided to clean up all loose ends attached to it..... including earth. The black goo/humans could have been an experiment gone wrong considering they were headed to earth to clean slate that bitch. I don't know man...the movie was great IMO. Its was suppose to leave you with those questions that will probably be answered and bait you into watching later films. A must watch for fans of the franchise and scifi buffs.

I enjoyed the flick.

Now I have to re-watch Alien and Aliens to see if they are consistent.

I feel you. Creation and Recreation are opposite sides of the same coin.

I see the black goop as primordial goop. It was like fertile Black soil that can be a growth medium. It was probably pre-seeded with a new class of creatures to populate the earth by using the current population as host and genetic contributors. The seeded creature + human = Aliens born of an
Engineer host.

There was something alive and it moved according to the sensor being observed by Idris Elba character. What ever the engineers ran from was probably still there. I doubt if a simple alien could have been so menacing to them since we saw an unarmed engineer fight with the cephalopod looking spawn from the chick. A crowd of engineers could successfully put down one alien.
