If you don't follow the 'Alien' series it's gonna be a hard watch.
If you are a fan of the series you will like the prequel.

If you dismiss the plot holes, and clean off some of the mess it's a pretty good film and the premise is great. The idea of the engineers was cool. I liked the film, wasn't in love with it and it wasn't as deep as I thought it was going to be.

The original movie actually is an interesting story line... that's
what makes it a classic!
Hell it was competing with Apocalypse Now in '79 and yet
is still listed as the #1 SciFi movie of all time...
This big budget garbage overtook content/acting and writing..

Aliens and Alien were had good storylines and background information... this piece of shit movie is boring, storyline was weak, acting was passable but tv sitcoms had better emotion... it drew on so much shit from other science fictions stories rather than what its supposed to be a prequel about...
this is worth a cam... nothing more... not even worth placing on your phone... not even worth putting on a disc... I expect it going to video in 4 months

this is why i really don't want to take my girl. she has never seen any of the alien movies. i know for sure that if one doesn't have the background knowledge on these movies it will be a hard watch.

Seem like you'd lose touch with a lot of people that enjoyed the original, especially if it's not something that came from books or comics. The people who read that stuff will keep up with the stories, but other than that lots of folks may get lost in the shuffle.

On the real, it doesn't suck that much. It's the execution and inconsistency that leaves some things lacking.
Saw the 12:01 last night. The movie has a slow build up. But overall you cannot deny the religious/philosophical tones in this movie and leaves you discussing way after you walk out the theater.
Prometheus as a whole movie has many deep thought provoking premises that are mind blowing once contemplated. The execution could have been a little better but overall it's a good movie.
If you are a sci-fi nut. Go see the movie.
