My man... you are taking this like it's something it's not. I don't think anybody is saying boxing is shit... heck, I love boxing myself and would rather watch two boxers go toe to toe ala holyfied vs. bert cooper than ground fighting... because it is definitely more exciting.... That doesn't matter though...
It also doesn't matter that boxing is more beloved worldwide, or more refined.... at least it doesn't matter when they go head to head. Head to head, it only matters who wins. I have no doubt that sometimes a boxer will step in there and start landing some power shots and take the victory... but tonight that did not happen, and in a lot of cases, dudes who train only for hands for years get in there and get embarrassed because guess what? The human body consists of many potential weapons besides the hands. There's no shame in a particular boxer not being able to beat a particular MMA dude, or vice versa... but it is a shame that boxers "tend" to think only in terms of their chosen sport, not realizing that just maybe it may not measure up in terms of head to head match ups much of the time with a sport that allows more weapons to be used.
Sure if it was a boxing match with straight up boxing rules, Randy would have probably ended up in the ER tonight... but I don't think Randy was chasing Don King around begging to hook him up for a boxing match. Tony went out of his way to get himself into this, and obviously got in way over his head.

The only boxers that would do well in MMA or folks with one punch ko power in their prime. MMA always fights has beens and then boast about it. It does play into people fantasy that because they can down to the gym and do some training that they would beat that million dollar prize fighter in a REAL fight though.

...of course if you are trying to learn self defense Boxing is good...but your limited in options so its not great....
I would not recommend Boxing solely for self defense...
and when it comes to both sports Boxing will not die just because of the money it brings in....they make almost 3 times more than MMA fighters....
I'm just saying....and you have tons of MMA fighters that say Boxing made them better standing....Kos is a prime example...he started to study boxing more at AKA and look at how dangerous he has become...
