Who do you guys think should face Penn Next? I said he and Florian need to go ahead and rematch now...but my brother said that Penn vs. Gomi would be good at this point in their careers...Penn is at a crossroads and Gomi is trying to get back up the ladder...it's a rematch that might be more interesting that Penn-Florian, frankly.

If Penn decides to go to welterweight...the obvious fight to make is Penn-Hughes 3...this is actually what I want to see happen the most.

And if Toney has another MMA fight...how about they give him Pat Barry...2 strikers...both about the same size...I bet Barry would take the fight down to the ground, though:lol:...maybe Check Kongo...but I KNOW Check would be trying to take that fight to the ground.

they wont make the penn hughes fight because this is a fight that matt hughes could lose & the ufc pretty much has him on the same ufc hall of famer tour that randy couture is on, cherrypick opponents that are somewhat interesting that they should be able to beat. & after seeing diego sanchez get trounced at welterweight i think penn needs to stay put

i think the interest in toney is done. he talked his way into a nice paycheck (good for him) but he needs to keep it moving. he's taking up a slot on a fight card that could be filled by someone who actually knows what theyre doing

pat barry would kick toney's head clean off his neck:lol:

this is the first ufc ive missed in like a year:(
money wasnt right, but by the sound of it i didnt miss much:cool:

Worst PPV in a LONG time.

The thing about fighting within the rules of either boxing or MMA.... When a boxer comes to MMA, they can bring all the weapons they have to use, and with lighter gloves to boot.

However, if you wanted an MMA fighter to fight a boxing match with boxing rules, you'd be saying "ok, boxer, you can use all your weapons, but MMA guy, you can't use 75% of your weapons.

Boxers lose a lot of weapons coming into MMA too. Gloves are also used for defense.

Dana needs to get this man in the 155 division immediately

jose-aldo.jpg

Dana needs to stop bullshitting and get the 145 and 135 division in the UFC

I'm pretty sure Almeida was the favorite going into the Matt Hughes fight. And NOBODY thought Hughes would drop Almeida and then SUBMIT him.

Chuck's a hall of famer, too, but Franklin was the slight favorite going into that fight and he then knocked Chuck out. And Mark Coleman has been the underdog in all of his fights since returning to the UFC.

BJ might wanna go to welterweight just so he can have a speed advantage...Frankie ran circles around the guy.....TWICE.

Can't blame Hughes for wanting to take a break this fall/winter and go hunting and come back fresh in 2011. He got $200k for that quick win over Almeida (100 to show, and 100 for the victory). He's been looking pretty good the past 2 years ... after THIAGO ALVES demolished him back in 2008. I was thinking he'd be on a downhill turn from then on in ... but apparently he's got some fresh blood since UFC 85 or whatever that event was overseas.

Yeah...Hughes has what, 3 wins in a row? BJ needs some time off to re-think what he's doing, IMO...then they could fight each other early next year...maybe as the co-main event for Silva-Sonnen 2.

Thanks, Ten.

UFC = main MMA (mixed martial arts) organization. Ultimate Fighting Championship ... with other orgs like the WEC / SENGOKU / DREAM / MFC / WAR ON THE MAINLAND / STRIKEFORCE, and others.

And formerly PRIDE / ELITE XC, etc.

Boxers lose a lot of weapons coming into MMA? You mention gloves, but there's a youtube clip in that other MMA thread in which Ray Mercer and James Tony are pretty much saying how smaller/lighter gloves are a tremendous advantage to boxers in MMA... doesn't sound like the professional boxers think they are losing out by wearing small gloves. Plus, pretty much everybody in this thread and outside of the thread acknowledge that MMA fighters beat boxers by going to the ground... how would bigger gloves defend against a takedown ?

Let's make a list of what boxers give up vs what MMA fighters give up when each fights according to the other respective sport's rules:

MMA fighter in a boxing rules fight:

1. give up takedowns

2. give up chokes

3. give up grappling

3. give up feet as weapons

4. give up knees as weapons

5. give up forearms as weapons

I'm probably missing a few, but that's the gist of it.

Boxer fighting MMA rules fight:

** um.... nothing to give up. Boxer can dance, clinch, punch or whatever
they do in a sanctioned boxing match. I'd give you the glove thing, but
as I pointed out, boxers brag about how the smaller gloves are an
advantage to them in MMA. The only thing boxers really give up is the
relative comfort of knowing that their opponent is gonna fight within the
fists only constraints of their great sport.

Boxers lose a lot of weapons coming into MMA too. Gloves are also used for defense.

Kenny never makes excuses so he wont say it, but a buddy of mine saw him training a few weeks ago, and one of his legs was so damaged he couldnt even kick with it. i imagine that may have been part of the reason Grey Manyard was able to get takedowns so easy.

peace

Its not UFC but StrikeforceMMA shit on Showtime

PLEASE Say y'all have, saw or will post that vicious ass battering that that fuckin man Chris Cyborg had to apply to this once cuteish blonde chick, disgusting;

Shit was embarassing:smh: & motherfuckas were booing
Shit looked like domestic violence & the other chick was fantastic @ catching straight lefts to the face:smh:

The dumb shit is, if the chick who was bigger, threw a couple of knees to her lil frame, she could have really fucked her up but she was catching lefts like a catcher to curveballs:smh:

KungLee's about to do his thing

Yeah, I had heard that he was hurting going into the fight. Also heard that he was afraid of pulling out because he didn't want to give up the risk of getting no title shot for awhile.

I still wonder where he goes from here ... if I were him and came back and had a title shot in 2011 or 2012 at some point and FAILED AGAIN ... I'd probably focus on the gym with my brother / the ESPN - MMA LIVE gig, and doing some color commentary fill-ins on WEC (for Stephan Bonnar) or the UFC (for Joe Rogan) when those guys needed the occasional replacement or fill-in.

Just watched the full event the other night. Props to Frankie Edgar ... he's definitely had Penn's number the past 4.5 months. He was very dominant in this last fight, and like Joe Rogan and GG/Goze/others were noting on MMA Junkie radio ... Penn's cornermen weren't offering him much strategy/tactical gameplanning between rounds. Edgar's corner were more on point ... plus he was the better fighter in both bouts. It should be interesting in the next 4 - 6 months or whenever EDGAR/MAYNARD happens. Gray being the bigger/stronger wrestler ... but Edgar being quicker/ more elusive. Hopefully it doesn't become lay/pray like Maynard/Florian and some of Maynard's other fights, and hopefully Frankie can showcase some good sprawl and take-down defense. I was really impressed with Edgar way back when he fought TYSON GRIFFIN ... superb back & forth battle back in the day in that one when Frankie was moving up in the ranks, and Tyson had already won over alot of people.

Penn had the power, but he just could not handle Edgar's lightning quick reflexes. It was like Penn was standing still the entire fight, now Edgar vs. Grey Maynard.....:smh::smh::smh:Edgar is going to get mauled to death.

Both have collegiate wrestling pedigrees and strength. EDGAR = quicker / MAYNARD = stronger. I just hope it's a good battle all-around ... Frankie is too quick to be kept down for too long ... so Maynard will have to finish him down there, and not lay/pray.

Edgar better not get trapped is all I have to say, Maynard knows how to really contain an opponent.

Fam' - just thought I'd run this by you as I don't have any immediate fam' in/around the Anaheim, California region. I was last there with fam' in 1993/1994. Did the whole westcoast roadtrip with Eugene and Portland, Oregon ... San Diego ... San Fran' ... Cali' ... Sacramento, La Jolla, etc. Hit up the general sites and districts ... had a good time. We enjoyed our time in ANAHEIM, CALI' ... I was about 13 at the time ... Disneyland, the whole 9. Anyone got any current recommendations of what to see/do and what to avoid/ignore?! Drop any info' - or hit me on PM ... it would be much appreciated. Bro' surprised me last month by buying tickets to UFC 121 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UFC_121 - so we're gonna make the holy pilgrimage down there for our first live UFC event  - 18 - 20 hour roadtrip from Canada ... looking forward to it. Probably gonna leave early in the week ... drive down ... maybe rent a car from here ... hit up the weigh-ins and sites/restaurants/general spots, etc. Tell me what's good, fam'. What to see/do and what to stay the fuck away from. Any good deals? Got a bad habit of procrastinating and leaving everything to the last minute ... so I thought I'd get a jump on this seeing as the event is 6 weeks away yet ... didn't feel like making a punkass thread the day before or some shit ... also gonna make sure to take a week and change or two weeks off from work ... that way there's no stress on either side ... make our way down easily ... not have to rush back at all ... actually enjoy the fuckin' trek and shit.

New York MMA is a web docu series dedicated to educating and giving exposure to the schools, gyms and teachers who make up the DNA of martial arts within New York State.

The purpose is to introduce the culture at its very core in a way where everyone can understand the competitors and the threads that make up the sport. This journey will take us to various camps and competitions throughout New York City and New York State. In addition, it will begin to touch on the points of why the legalization of the sport continues to be stifled and the reasoning behind it.
