c/s Maia should be criticized for coming into a fight with no game plan. How the fuck are you going to come into a fight expecting dude to just lay down and roll around with your dumb ass on the ground long enough to give you a chance to choke him?
The next two people in line for Anderson's title were injured, so maia was the third option.
But that happens sometimes in sports. Iron Mike had alot of weak opponents and he just knocked them the fluk out.

And I’m not saying that Silva isn’t the P4P king. I’m merely pointing out that several people don’t have him at the top of the list and that those that do have him at the top don’t have him ahead by much. That’s a fact. Not my opinion. If anything, it’s a fact about other people’s opinion if that makes you feel any better. Either way, you don’t have to agree with it, but you can’t deny that its out there.
Also, the P4P ranking isn’t simply about wins. It’s about wins against quality opposition. Anderson is a beast, but lets keep it real, 3 out of his last 4 fights have been hard to watch. His matches against Cote, Leites, and now Maia were WACK. And none of those dudes are considered elite middleweights. He KO’d Forrest in spectacular fashion and deserves credit for it, especially for fluctuating between weight classes while doing. But Forrest has been KO’d by lesser competition (Keith Jardine) and his limited stand-up was tailor made for Silva. All in all, Forrest isn’t the most talented fighter. He’s just a tough scrapper with good skills that caught a break by getting a bullshit decision against Rampage.
Again, I think Anderson deserves recognition as P4P king, but a legitimate argument can be made against him.
Dog, sorry but Dana stays giving Anderson props in a way that contradicts what you’re saying here. Dana has consistently said that Silva is the best fighter in the world, even when asked about GSP. If what you’re saying were true, Dana would label white boy GSP as the P4P king. GSP would actually be easier to promote as the P4P best considering that he is a white boy, speaks English, and is the poster boy of the modern day respectful martial artist. Yet, Dana is quick to say that Silva is the better P4P fighter. Also, Silva is the one who has decided to go from one weight class to another, which I give him credit for. He has pretty much wiped out the middleweight division and has decided to try lightheavy weights in search for better challengers. That said, Anderson has made that call, not Dana. Its also worth pointing out that Dana is just a dick to everyone regardless of race. He has had issues with top white fighters. Just look at his fall out with UFC legend/golden boy Randy “Captain America” Couture.
I already addressed this above but I’ll add one thing…Forrest was never the UFC’s golden boy. That person’s name is Randy Couture, maybe Chuck Lidell. Anyway, Anderson certainly whooped Forrest but his other recent matches have left people wanting a lot more. Plus, its not like Anderson did that to a Rampage Jackson, Rashard Evans, Maricio Rua, or Lyoto Machida so lets put that victory in perspective.
First off, let’s hope that Rashard isn’t in Chuck’s current position 2 years from now. Dude should have a long career ahead. That said, I hope you realize that there is a HUGE difference in the careers of Chuck Lidell and Rashard Evans. Chuck is an MMA legend and was the face of the UFC for a few years. Few people have accomplished what he has in the sport so he’s earned the right to continue to fight if he so chooses. Rashard is a top fighter but is far from a legend so there is no way he should be granted the same consideration if his career were winding down at this point.
as far as the penn/edgar bout, edgar fought his azz off & looked great doing it, but SHIT. machida got to keep his belt for doing less against shogun yet penn gets his taken away. im not gonna scream robbery but truthfully i never felt like penn was in grave danger at any time in the fight. shogun looked like he was picking the karate kid apart more so in their fight.

but here's the thing though. im not clamoring for a rematch because honestly if they fight again i pretty much expect it to go the same way. edgar was just operating at another speed tonight. i hate to say it, but at 31 is bj penn still a "prodigy". by the time you hit your thirties you pretty much are what youre going to be unless something drastic takes place. im not ready to say he's on the decline just yet after one close decision especially with the dominant performances he had before this one but i dont really think he has edgar's number

I also watched Pride, the IFL, King of the Cage, etc. So my MMA background has nothing to do with Spike TV.

He beat the shit out of Oversteem and then lost to Rampage 3 months later. I think you're the one that needs to look up his record. Let me help you out though:

Dog, I'm not biased at all. I call it like I see it, which is why throughout all these discussions I've maintained the fact that I believe that Anderson is the best fighter in the world. As far as Chuck, he didn't get knocked out by the "other" Silva in Japan. In fact, he fought and defeated Wanderlei Silva at UFC 79, which was his lone win in this recent losing streak. I'm not debating that Chuck hasn't gotten whooped lately. Recently, he has been KO'd by Rampage Jackson, Rashard Evans, and Marcio Rua. Not a good look. But, don't ignore the fact that those are the top 3 contenders at LH. Those dudes would likely knock out 90% of the fighters in the division. Either way, those losses don't mean that Chuck hasn't had a hall of fame career. Like him or not, dude is a legend regardless of his recent shortcomings. Same way Roy Jones Jr. is a legend although he's been KO'd by bums.
As far as your second point, I have NO PROBLEM with a fighter fighting his fight. If you're thing is wrestling, take dude down and control him on the ground (like GSP did to Hardy and Evans did to Silva). If you're a Ju Jitsu guy, pull guard like the Gracie's and look for the submission. If your shit is stand up, sprawl and avoid the take down and look to throw punches. There is nothing wrong with any of that. But that's not what Anderson did last night. He spent the last 2 rounds running around in a circle mocking his opponent because he didn't feel like fighting, not because that's his style or because he was defending his lead. And that's why he is getting criticized.

He lost to Jardine by split decision. You asked me to list the fighters that knocked him out which wasn't the case against Jardine. Jeremy Horn was a very good fighter in his time. He was actually the first person to ever beat Chuck. Did was one of the first great American submission specialists and still trains several fighters today. I'm assuming you're new to MMA if Silva and Couture are the only names that stand out to you. Dog, Chuck Liddell's success in MMA is undeniable.

I saw it when it was first released a couple of years ago and its addressing something completely different than the issue with Anderson Silva’s performance last night. Dana was addressing the fact that EliteXC was paying fighters additional money NOT to fight their fight. That would be like paying Silva not to use his stand up skills and forcing him to engage in a submission fight against Maia. And that’s not the case. Dana, along with most fans, just want to see Silva FIGHT, not dance for the sake of embarrassing his opponent. There is a clear difference.
Dana tries to influence the fighters' strategy. That should be illegal. In a way it is fixing of the game. Instead of blaming Silva Dana should blame the rules and the choice of fighters. What does he expect when he puts together a puncher with long reach and ground fighter that does not try to close the distance fast but crawls in the range of the puncher?
