G1 Owners Unite! The Official G1/Android Thread..News/Apps/Features All In Here

while I agree that tmo has been dropping the ball phone wise, I think they are setting themselves up for a breakout year. the gphone is going to be their flagship droid joint plus they are building out their network in a big way. hell I've been waiting for the G2 as long as anyone, and who knows, the passion/dragon is just a code name. when I hits they just might brand it the G2. it'll be interesting to see if they can finally step it up..................

yeah but they rn't dropping their bigger better network til mid 2010...and the gphone won't be exclusive every carrier(cept for att it seems) will have a ultra powerful gphone...tmo will just get it 1st which will mean the next carrier who gets it will make it better. see how they got the g1 and mytouch then the hero which is the same thing as the mytouch dropped and no one mentions the mytouch anymore. the cliq is a nice phone but after the droid came in and smashed all others no one mentions it except to say it looks cheap made...

thats my main issue with tmo they have cutsy style phones round edges pleasing to the eye...nothing really stands out...
thats the main reason i jumped to vzw...the droid looks different its not cute its steel and metal with a power engine...it set the new standard for vzw in terms of smart phones now so much so they r making a line of droids....
tmo coulda took the android os and made it their flagship selling point....dropped different variants of an android...no reason on earth why they should have passed on the droid. NONE. that form factor plus their rate plans woulda been a winner.

sprint is doing the same shit with the web os...only vzw is like we'll drop a different phone for different people...droid for power users with ads aimed at men and geeks...and the eros aimed at people who want a smartphone with some power but who aren't geeks.

tmo is aiming at teens and older people and forgetting the 21 to 40 age group...if u want an adult looking phone on tmo u get a blackberry which to me is fucked up no reason why the droids out couldn't be on tmo too...
and abandoning the keyboard is pure bs to me...

I hope tmo does something to get an identity other than being the cheaper rate mobile company....

its a shame that a year after being the only android carrier that they aren't even a serious mention anymore...whereas verizon dropped 2 androids the same day only a month ago and stole all that android thunder from tmo...

fucked up thing is if they do bend over to apple and get the iphone android will get buried on tmo....

shameful shit.

yea to this day their resoning has been shitty at best, but im hoping that they finally get it right for once. at the very least i hope they get the passion so I can have a decent phone without having to seriously consider switching to another carrier......................

those pics are from the roadmap for the entire year. and if you notice the first of those won't start showing up until april at the earliest. no telling when the us will see any of the phones on that list. the gphone is something other than those. remember they've been working on the dragon/passion for a minute now.............

out of 24 pages the most valuable and useful info was posted by Willywill84 telling people about Super Private Convo app..
So props to him cus all that rooting etc etc is not a necessity especially when you will get a LAG, FORCE CLOSED, ERROR, on any rom you use.. so sticking with the simple shit and downloaded the themes from MARKET is all i need. the rest is irrelevant in my opinion.. always props to those that told people how to get FREE apps..

1. You must not have any technical skills or reading skills for that matter since you've claimed to have read this thread and you putting down ROOTed users/phones. MAybe if you rooted your phone you would see the benefits from what it can do. And you can still use tmo's rooted base rom so u wont have any of those so called errors.

And 24 pages of nothing and you only saw 1 app....the privacy app? C'mon son...you can do better than that...as much hotness has been dropped thats all u can say :smh::smh::smh:

the gphone may not even be htc made....but i think the bravo is the passion

Tmo still fucking up :smh:

For real i've been saying this for a second, I don't know why tmo keeps coming out with these dull lookn smart phones, small screens, non glossy, etc.... Then the fact we had the first Android phone but other carriers who later got Android have better lookn and phones with much better specs. I do think if tmo gets the iphone it will definitely mean we'll be gettn bs Android phones if any more. Sometimes I wonder am I on a some bootleg carrier. Am I on the poor man's Verizon? When I came to tmo over 2 years ago I thought I was at one of the best, now lookn at their prices i'm wondering do we even deserve those fancy phones.

2.0.1 is for droid but maps and googles should be in the market b/c i updated but they only support 1.6 and up...1.5 is not supported.

but i got a bit of good news for u...tmo may carry the x10 after all...

http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2009/12/07/sony-ericsson-xperia-x10-heading-to-att-and-t-mobile/

hopefully its priced good but its sony and who knows with them.

Agent I do have a problem with boygeniusreport.com, that's 1 of the sites my sister is always linking me to about new phones and shyt. That site always seems to speculate, they were the ones who said verizon would get the passion in November, then by Christmas. They said Xingular would get the x10 this year, etc...That site always seems to spread rumors, lots of them. No diss to that site but their accuracy seems to be way off. At this point, I can only go by the carriers giving official statements, too many rumors going on--on several different blogs.

Well I was hoping what would happen is that maybe someone could incorporate bits and pieces into a rom *coughcyan*

Well kiss my grits:lol:

As my inbox continues to fill up with the HTC leaked roadmap, I have tried to address the notion that none of these phones are shown to be available for T-Mobile USA. For that matter, no US carrier is shown to be a possible recipient of these phones and why? A cursory glance at the spec sheet shows no compatible US 3G bands, not for T-Mobile or any other carrier that has 3G offerings stateside. So while the phones themselves might have “T-Mobile” typed over them, rest assured these phones are from a leaked Austrian HTC roadmap and most certainly, not a US one.

All that being said, it’s likely that one or more of these devices might show up in some capacity to a US carrier, T-Mobile included. Aside from that, we doubt the HTC 2010 Android lineup is comprised of only half a dozen phones, something tells me that they have much more in store. However, from these leaked slides we can’t make any predictions nor can we say anything for certain. So please, don’t read T-Mobile and get all excited, scroll down just a little more and take a glance at those spec sheets and try not to let all your excitement out at once.

Google Goggles now available for Android

Update: This application is available for Android 1.6 and above. (Sorry Sprint, CLIQ, and Eris users)

News of Google Goggles broke over the weekend and the application is now available in the Android Market. The service has been in testing since August and this is the first time the public has had a chance to play with the app. Google Goggles allows users to snap photos with their camera phone and match results based on the object. Download the application and check back later for our full review.
Google Goggles is a visual search app. Instead of using words, take a picture of an object with your camera phone: we attempt to recognize the object, and return relevant search results. Goggles also provides information about businesses near you by displaying their names directly in the camera preview.

New Google Maps for Android adds Lab features

Is Google Navigation the best GPS ever? Verizon thinks so. I’ve been using the new Google Maps for Android over the last few weeks and I’m loving it so far. Google continues to improve their Maps application and has just released an updated version that is packed with new features.

New Labs features of Google Maps 3.3.0 include:

* Scale bar: Shows a scale bar on the map with distances in metric and imperial units.
* Terrain layer: Adds the terrain layer to the layers menu. The terrain layer lets you view physical features, such as mountains and vegetation, with elevation shading.
* Popular categories: Shows a browsable list of category searches when you use the search menu item. The hard search button still gives direct access to the normal search screen.
* Layer button: Adds an on-screen button for easy access to layers.
* Compass arrow: Uses the digital compass to indicate the direction you’re facing while stationary.

The Labs features can be accessed by pressing Menu > More > Labs.

Google has also added the ability to report a problem with the map or a business listing and see businesses at an address or near a point on the map.

Note: The latest Google Maps is only available for devices with Android 1.6 and above. Keep contacting your carrier and requesting they update the software on your phone.

HTC Bravo pictured more lucidly (Update: coming to US in January as HTC Passion)

By Vladislav Savov posted Dec 8th 2009 at 1:11AM

We realize we might have overfed you a little with that plentiful leak of HTC's 2010 plans, so here's a chance to better ogle and digest HTC's "Performance" flagship to be: the Bravo. Pairing Android with Qualcomm's 1GHz Snapdragon and presenting a 3.7-inch AMOLED facade, this certainly ticks the headline boxes, and the addition of a five megapixel AF cam capable of 720p video capture gives it an extra sheen of 2010 newness. The picture above is accompanied by less solid info indicating a 1,400mAh battery, which will be joined by the mandatory WiFi, Bluetooth and MicroUSB connectivity, plus MicroSD expansion, FM radio tuner, digital compass, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Then again, the source is the same bunch of heroes responsible for our extra early -- and accurate -- info on the HD2, so those specs may be considered pretty reliable. Oh, if you're wondering about the touchscreen, it's capacitive, like it should be.

Update: If you were wondering about the difference between the Bravo and the recently leaked Passion, there is none other than the branding apparently. We're also hearing that the above handset will be available in the US in January, a cool three months ahead of the expected European release.

question. will firmware update on htc hero delete data on phone? thanks

No it won't. I had added some pics and apps to my Hero on the drive home from getting it and then remembered the firmware update. Did the update and the phone kept all the data I had added was still there.
