49ers

Maybe we pick up that CB that blew out his ACL recently..... COLVIN ???
We can put him on IR or the PUP list
We will see

:dunno::dunno::dunno:

Damn... Baalke trades picks like he's playing fantasy football.

I know it's crazy man
We only have a couple of roster spots available
Only makes sense if we are going to redshirt a bunch of guys
We passed on a lot of talented WR's and CB's
They are putting a lot of faith in Culliver & Stevie Johnson

:hmm::hmm::hmm:

we must've not valued any of those guys that's the only explanation. we had the picks to do it but i do like getting a ilb i do like getting a center to grow with kap and i love getting hyde

Really hope we get a WR today.we need some leverage against Michael Crabtree holding out/and or leaving via FA. And with Stevie Johnson's contract situation, I wonder if it might just be a one year situation.

And drafting Hyde, I wonder if they're already planning Frank Gore's departure after this year.

If we get a WR I want Bryant from Clemson, he can be the tall go get it WR, the rest of the receiving squad is around the same height.

I really think we should keep James at RB for screens and change of pace, the rest of the of our RBs are pretty much the same. Keep Gore, Lattimore, Hyde and James.

I still want some more secondary players to compete for spots and add depth, Desir maybe.

We also need to upgrade our backup QB, need someone athletic since we couldn't get Pryor. I really hated Logan Thomas in college but I wouldn't mind us trying to develop him.

Even way before the Hyde pick, I always thought this was going to be Gore's last year.
At least he will retire a 49er.
I guess Hyde is insurance just in case Lattimore does not return to 100%
Also this is Hunter's last year on contract.

I guess this Bruce Ellington rookie WR will take over PR/KR returns
He seems like a bigger Kyle Williams
LaMichael James is gone for sure now..... oh well :(

I think Baalke messed up by not trading up for Pierre Desir
Cleveland picked him just a couple spots before us
We had to settle for Dontae Johnson
:(:(:(

We will see what happens
:cool::cool::cool:

we'll see what they do with lmj. i don't know why they didn't value any of the other big speedy wr's though, no idea.

ellington was actually pretty good in college curt, ive seen him play lots of times. he's a gamer. i could never ever say that about kyle williams. so don't doom him before he even gets on the field.

i like that we got the nickel sewed up like we got the center we need like the stevie johnson trade like the hyde pick not a fan of the line pick acl injured reserved pick and not a fan of not capitalizing on our picks and really securing our db situation

i understand the ilb because bowman is gonna be out.

we have ridiculous dline depth already too much actually so i get that. glad we did address the o line. let's see what else they do. hopefully they get another db another wr and another qb.

that's our big corner though 6'2" 38inch vertical 4.5?

see the thing with the defensive side of the ball, i trust the coaching COMPLETELY so when a player has the tools, if he is intelligent and listens our defensive staff is going to make you a fucking star. it's just proven with this staff to be true.

offense we can't reach, i don't trust out wr coach 1 bit. or te coach 1 bit. rb coach i trust, obviously trust line and qb coach.

but wr te...they gotta have it already to be good

defense though? if you got talent...and the ability to listen? you gonna be good

yup bruce ellington right there
but what puts him over the top is he's built like steve smith, he was actually the starting point guard for s.c. and this is going to be the 1st time he's played only 1 sport. he has an insane vertical and isn't scared to go over the middle also he catches the ball out of the air instead of letting it go to his body (vernon davis)

this is our field stretcher.

baalke didn't pick the ones we wanted overall but i think he did a damn good job of getting more than 1 player that can come in that's healthy now and can contribute now.

if that fullback we just drafted is as good as his tape we can just cut bruce miller on the spot.. straight up.

How did the 49ers do in the draft....

overall we did excellent for now and the long run. we passed on a lot of people everybody in here wanted but we got some extremely good picks and value. we got our speedster wr. we got our versatile db early. we actually got the best center in the draft to go along with our great oline we got ilb help for when bowman is gone and we addressed oline dline and db just like i hoped we would.

the best way to make people better is competition. there is going to be so much competition at every position but qb it's going to be ridiculous.

I like Millard as a value pick, especially where he was drafted. Ellington has the potential to be a beast on returns, and in space.

I just wish we didn't take quite so many players coming off recent major injuries.

that's kind of the thing though, we have a loaded roster and lots of picks, some of these people are going to have to redshirt. like how tank and quinton and marcus are going to have a year of the system under their belt, an extra year of training and rehab under their belt, so when they get in the game, it's going to be contribution instead of trying to learn on the fly.

if we had just gotten those type players like last year, id agree but the main thing is we got a nickel db that's dynamic to go with brock and will be with reid making our safeties hopefully top in the nfl

we got the best center in the draft which can hopefully translate to no more weak spots as goodwin always gave up pressure up the middle. we got hyde to have a duo going forward. got the big db that we needed at value, got other projects as well.

we did pretty good.

How did the 49ers do in the draft....

Basically the 49ers are drafting for long term players, & signing free agents for fill-ins.
Overall it was solid.
Seems like we got good value for a few players, but of course we wont know how everything pans out until a few years down the road.

My favorite picks are:
1. RB Carlos Hyde
We trade LaMichael when another teams RB gets hurt during the preseason.
Drafting Hyde means we can ease Lattimore in, everyone can spit caries evenly.
Gore will retire after this year, so going forward, Hyde + Lattimore are a good combo.
Hopefully Hyde can be like Eddy Lacy.

2. C Marcus Martin
I had questions about KillGore at center, before the draft
With the Rams D-line & the Cards/Seahawks defense, we need some beef up front

Other Players:
3. WR Bruce Ellington
He's a good football player, but will we use him correctly?
Will he get lost in the shuffle like LaMichael & Kyle Williams?

4. S Jimmie Ward
Again he's a good football player, but I think we reached a little.
So the plan is to start him at nickel CB for a year or two, cut Bethea or make him backup, then Jimmie Ward takes over as the starting safety?
We will see about this one
Again both Verrett (nickel CB) & Dennard (outside CB) were within reach
We passed up a lot of good talent for Ward, so he better be good

5. ILB Chris Borland
Bowman will be on the PUP list for half the season
Wilhoite will have to fill in for half the season
This is Wilhoite's contract year & he will want to get paid or even start for another team after this year
The new rookie should make a good backup & competition for Nick Moody
Also Patrick Willis seems to be getting nicked/injured every year, so the rook might have to come in for Willis a few games

6. OG Brandon Thomas
He'll go on PUP/IR this year
He'll be good insurance in case we lose Mike Iupati next year
At the very least, Thomas will be an upgrade over Adam Snyder & Johnathan Martin

Barring any major injuries, the team looks pretty solid
I only have a few minor concerns

1. Very minor concern
Who is our 3rd QB?
Right now we just have Kaepernick & Blaine Gabbert as the only two

2. Minor concern
Not very good O-line tackle depth
If Staley or Davis go down, who steps in?
I know Boone can slide over to left tackle, but Adam Snyder & Johnathan Martin are really not that good at all
We do have a few tackles on the practice squad though

3. Somewhat of a major concern
We are paper thin at QUALITY CB depth
Sooooo we go into the season with Brock (1 year starter), Cully (coming off ACL injury & legal problems & a complete knucklehead), & a 1st round rookie?

Behind them we have Cox(cut multiple times from multiple teams), Wright(hes kind of just "eh", & will compete for the backup nickel spot with Cox), Cook(Vikings reject).... and a bunch of mid round/late round rookies

With Aldon Smith & Bowman out probably for half the season, will we be able to generate enough pass rush/pressure, so our CB's are not exposed?
It seems like last year when we had Boldin & then a bunch of scrub WR's
Right now we have 2 good CB's & a bunch of knuckleheads/unknowns/rookies
So we will go into camp with like 10+ CB's & spend valuable time trying to find out who will step up?
Will our starters get enough reps, with having to split time with all these other unknown CB's?
Because they have to be ready to go & gel together from day #1, week #1
Our first 3 weeks we face all pass happy teams (Cowboys, Bears, Cardinals) !!!

Again..... we will see !!!
:hmm::hmm::hmm:

One good thing about Trent Baalke is that he's trying to think 1 step ahead of the competition
The 49er FO and Scouts get it......its not always about drafting for right now.
Its about drafting for the next couple of years.
While this draft seemed kinda random, when you think about it and upcoming free agents, it was pretty solid.
But we will have to see how many draftees pan out, in a few years.

qb's might need to be extra careful, cause our guys are aggressive without being gamblers. man and how fast is our db group now?

officially reid is a 4.53 but watching him play he plays WAY faster than that. nobody has just left him and he's usually first to the ball

brock is a 4.4

culliver is a 4.3

ward is a 4.4

bethea is listed as a 4.39

fast
we got big
and we got strong.

and then when you factor in

justin
tank
ian
glenn
tony
macdonald
lemoneir
aldon
brooks

they're not even going to have to cover for that long.

tempFNS_7704--nfl_mezz_1280_1024.JPG

Ward ran 4.4 while running with a bad foot. I've been listening to radio shows and everyone is saying he would have been in the 4.3's had he been healthy.

LBOP is right. With the pass rush we have they won't have to cover forever. The only thing we have to look out for is when Fangio plays his off coverage and teams start to dink-and-dunk their way up the field.

And Yes, Stevie is at camp going to Niners Football School. Fuck Yeah!

That's why I made the point about being aggressive. Brown and Rogers were not ball hawks. They played solid coverage. Brown especially, he would be right there but unless the ball actually came to him, he wasn't making an interception. How many times have we seen him with perfect coverage and the pass completed because he doesn't go after the ball, he waits to see what happens? I can specifically think of that steve smith td in the playoffs where his coverage was perfect, he was right there and allowed smith to catch it because he didn't play the ball.

Rogers in the NFCCG on the 4th down, he was right there in coverage, tight coverage but didn't play the ball, just watched the player catch it for the touchdown.

That is NOT what brock does, that's how he get's his interceptions. He's gotten just as many in man coverage as he has playing zone.. especially the schaub pick 6 comes to mind.

Culliver was aggressive before he got injured he isn't going to allow completions without playing the ball.

And now ward is clearly a ball hawk.

Then you go reid who has great anticipation and doesn't allow catches either..

It's going to be dangerous throwing the ball against us, especially in a blitz situation.. because all of our defenders play the man and the ball. So either it gets batted or picked.

and all of them have elite speed to take it to the house

:yes::yes:

The San Francisco 49ers begin voluntary Organized Team Activities on Tuesday.

The non-contact OTA sessions will take place for the rest of the week, including a Wednesday session open to the media. In addition, the 49ers will hold OTAs over the course of the next three weeks, leading up to a mandatory minicamp June 17-19.

Hopefully no one gets injured like Crabtree did last year!

:please::please::please:

Don't you put that voodoo on us curt!

Man it's time to be excited about this team... every concern that all of us had we addressed.

The thing that's going to surprise a lot of people is our secondary.

The defensive back coaches we have are tops in the nfl.

Just wait as they bring along johnson it's going to be fucking serious

everybody in our secondary runs a 4.4 and below and our top 2 corners run 4.3 and 4.4

every draft pick is signed but marcus martin he'll be signed soon and he'll be our center. man that line is going to actually be WAY BETTER than it was last year.

the depth on it...just ridiculous. both our lines.

We'll see curt. I'm reserving all judgement until we get to the preseason games so we can see with our own eyes.

have you seen how tank is looking now? dude is fucking HUGE and healthy.. like fucking wow factor lol

And Okoye might make it due to special teams...word is he ran down our corner that runs a 4.3. morris in a special teams drill...
