What happened to all the social & political commentary? What would modern Black comedy be without the topics 'pussy/dick/fuckin', 'White/Black people contrasts', 'ghetto stereotypes' & Black men in drag? Is 'smart' Black Comedy dead?

Can't say 'smart' in general is dead... especially in the comedy field. There's no shortage of idiot White comedians, but there are also very many 'smart' White comedians out there to balance it out. I've even seen White comedians who are normally pretty clever, dumb down their routine for a live Black audience. And the audience ate it up.
Of the current generation of comedian, I don't know. Everybody is clamoring to get the next spot on a hit sitcom or their own variety show. Nobody is pushing the envelope, but black comedy has been suffering for years.

I guess they have to be established first before satire becomes part of their act...
All of em are in hiding because Bill Cosby told them that they couldn't curse during a performance.
All jokes aside though, I asked myself this shit the other day. My wife named some people from the previous list just for arguements sake like D.L. Hughley, but to be honest with you I don't find him, Steve Harvey, Ced Ent., or Eddie Grif. funny.
Maybe its an age/generational thing.

I guess it depends on who do you consider a smart black comedian? Because I see plenty of Chris Rock's and Dave Chappelle's out there. Not as good as those two don't get me wrong but there are similar acts out there.

It's probably becuz they've grown up in a black culture in the past 20-30 years obsessing about race when historically speaking we got far less sh!t to really complain about now..
Just come up w/ some funny jokes & stop using the same old tired bits & topics..

Truthfully, I have to dumb down my act when I get in front of most black crowds because they are so accustomed to the black vs. white, roaches and bad credit jokes that you can't do anything else. If you go to a black comedy club for 2 months straight, you'll hear the same jokes from different comics just like on comic view. The sad thing is is that the owners of the clubs don't want anything different.
I only watch three comedians: Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock and Paul Mooney, the rest are garbage.
Paul kinda dissappointed me with that interview he had on Dr. Phil. He had a legitimate national forum to speak on race issues and he couldn't get off his routine. He ended up soundly like a guy with a serious chip on his shoulder, with no way to explain it.
On BET Comic View, P Diddy's comdy show & Def Comedy I've seen White comediand 'ghetto-fy' their routines in ways they didn't on comedy channel and else where. I don't recall their names. It was just a passing observation I made at the time.Name some please, (not really up on the comedic front).

Both Chris & Dave were satircal when the started out. Yes, they had some low brow stuff too, but they've always ben smart.
That's because they were both teenagers when they started out. Dave was 14 when he started and Cris was 15(I think. I know he quit school when he started) there's not a lot a teenager can speak on. WHEN YOU GET OLDER AND MORE LEARNED ABOUT YOUR SURROUNDINGS, THE MORE YOU CAN GET INTO POLITICAL TOPICS. YOU HAVE TO BE VERY SMART TO BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND POLITICS THEN FLIP IT AND MAKE IT FUNNY. MOST BLACK COMICS WON'T DO MAIN STREAM COMEDY BECAUSE THEY ARE SCARED TO GO OUTSIDE OF THEIR COMFORT ZONE OR THEY FEEL AS THOUGH THEY ARE SELLING OUT. I DO MAINSTREAM BECAUSE YOU CAN BE MORE CLEVER IN YOUR JOKES AND IT PAYS MUCH MORE THAN BLACK COMEDY DOES AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, I HAVE NEVER BEEN RIP-OFF BY A WHITE CLUB OR PROMOTER.
