Minus Chris Rock & Dave Chappelle, Where Are All The 'Smart' Black Comedians?

Or Maybe ignant niggas don't get smart comedy. If a smart comedian tells a joke and you dont find it funny, its probably about you.

Yeah, I think that's it exactly.

:hmm:

Or maybe its just a cultural and generational difference like I said before.

STFU!!

You gotta understand. These young kids who are growing into adults & get into this as their craft nowadays really have no talent. Whether it's being a comedian, rapper, vocalist, actor, etc, the talent level nowadays is ridicuously low. These dudes look at everything as a hustle as opposed to a craft

This is onpint. :yes::yes:

Suppression...

Trust me, the "smart black comedians" are out there...

But you may have to go local to find them. Not too many have built up enough fanfare to force the national networks and media outlets to promote them further - YET...

... but they do exist.

My stamp of approval:

Can't say 'smart' in general is dead... especially in the comedy field. There's no shortage of idiot White comedians, but there are also very many 'smart' White comedians out there to balance it out. I've even seen White comedians who are normally pretty clever, dumb down their routine for a live Black audience. And the audience ate it up.

I have to agree with Melonpecan, just go back to your thread title it referenced Black Comedians. Just look at the main black comedians. Katt Williams IMO is not even funny so you can forget about intelligent. Steve Harvey doesn't make it, Eddie Griffin can be insightful but not what I would call intelligent but incredibly talented.

The most intelligent present day was probably Bernie Mac. So whose left? I think you have to look at the ladies in the business an there's only 3 I can think of, Adele Givens, Sommore and Wanda Sykes. After that forget about it.

Dick Gregory maybe?

Dick Gregory is a political activist, has been since the early 70s. He doesn't consider himself a comedian and with good reason. He still has a funny way of getting his point across but he's no deeper than any comedian.

Truthfully, I have to dumb down my act when I get in front of most black crowds because they are so accustomed to the black vs. white, roaches and bad credit jokes that you can't do anything else. If you go to a black comedy club for 2 months straight, you'll hear the same jokes from different comics just like on comic view. The sad thing is is that the owners of the clubs don't want anything different.

I hope you don't really believe this crap. Dare to be different think back to when Richard Pryor became big. Prior to Pryor who did we have? Redd Foxx, Moms Mabley, LaWanda Page, Skillet Leroy, Pigmeat Markham and Slappy White and Rudy Ray Moore. Pretty much Vaudeville type acts. Then came Wildman Steve (he faded fast), Bill Cosby and Flip Wilson.

Cosby and Wilson elevated black comedy to a new level took it up from Vaudeville levels. Pryor took off with "That Ni99ers Crazy" and never looked back. Why because he was different.

As for Sinbad this idiot needs to get his shit together and get back out there. I thought his humor was pretty funny.

But as I said earlier the better mainstream humor is coming from the ladies at present. This is why I think you need to take the chance and be yourself. Black comedy needs a fresh start. You could be the one. Take the chance throw some stuff up on YouTube being comedian is a gamble anyway why not take another shot at it?

Dude, I have been touring for 8 years and I know what I am talking about. What I said is true. Every black comedian who has any sense has a set for black crowds and a mainstream crowd. That's just the way it is.

Never said you didn't know what you were talking about. I just was never comfortable doing the status quo. The exceptions are the ones who stand out from the rest. But you do what gets you paid.

I can't front... You've unfortunately confirmed my suspicions. But good lookin' out on the inside scoop, fam.

"Where are all the smart black audiences" is more the question. The job of the comedian is to play up to the crowd. If guys like Lil Duval & Shawty are headlining a comedy spot and you're politically/socially driven and well spoken. You're probably gonna get crickets.

For comedians it's hard to just come out and be oddly different these days. It's a high risk game.

If you honestly are interested in something you'll research it though. If you make a broad sweeping comment about black people and black comedians you probably don't know what the fuck you're talking about. Because "smart" comedians are out there.

I already knew that, that's why I never watched Comic View and stopped watching Def and Bad Boy Comedy Jam :smh:

Dudes were saying the same shit, just their version.

This shit looks crazy. And to dudes talking about they wouldn't go see a docu-style flick in theater this shit looks more than that. And I hope ya'll aren't the same ones that go see that Borat and Bruno bullshit.

Where are the good Black movies? Who are we kidding? What happened to good Black entertainment, in general? :dunno:

What's your idea of good entertainment? Because its definately out there. It may not be as mainstream as a Tyler Perry movie but its out there.
