Sports Pass/Fail: Ken Burns says ESPN Michael Jordan ‘The Last Dance’ isn’t good journalism or good history UPDATE: Apology

Why don't you talk about your moms? Why you keep deflecting from the question.. Why isn't your moms joining your cuckold pops and you for breakfast?

Moms is good, she will be there too. My dad actually married her, can you say the same?

Look how hard you having to work to keep this coon elevated now that Kobe passed. Life just isnt the same no mo for you lames. Youre not gonna be able to maintain this another 10 years. The MJ is the "undisputed GOAT" days are over son. Maybe if LeBron loses another Final, this will all go away.

Seriously? Have you heard of a non disclosure agreement? Especially in a divorce between wealthy people.
Nitpick much?

Relax. She’s spoken about the marriage after the divorce and said NDA. You would think Jordan’s family would be a integral part of the story especially since his portrayal as a family man was a big part of his image. I wouldn’t think that would be baffling for you to realize and consider it nitpicking.

I hoped to see more footage of the actual last season. Hell they've spent more time talking about shit that happened in the 80s.

Some people are going to call him a hater....watch.

To not like it and not watched any of it, he’s hating something.

The fuck lol

For real

How can you dislike something you haven’t watched or call it poor journalism

He’s a new breed, he just doesn’t like the “Idea” of the documentary and wants us all to know.

100%
how can you critique a doc you haven't watched? seriously!

Mike didn’t sign his autograph or didn’t return his phone calls.

I stopped reading as soon as I seen that part like wtf is going on in society

Smart man

The fact that we get more insight to the relationship between Rodman and Carmen Electra and absolutely no mention of Juanita Jordan is baffling.

The answer was in an ESPN story when they interviewed the director. Even though all the footage was shot by NBA Films, Jordan had control of his likeness because he opted out of the players' union's group licensing program when he entered the NBA. So in order to make the documentary, it had to get Jordan's approval. In order to do that, the director gave Jordan control of what could/couldn't be included.

Was Juanita shooting in the gym?

Was she dunking from free throw lines?

Can she even shoot a J?

The only thing she’d probably say is that he was a cheating asshole who practiced basketball a lot. Is that really what we want to hear?

Niggas wanna hear how Mike was a mean guy that didn’t do house chores and refused to put the toilet seat down!

Jordan dont do no niggas. Its what makes him so marketable to people all over the world. I bet his kids and family understand.

We’re getting insight to everyone else I was just hoping for more. Mike was dropping documentaries while he was in the league so I thought this would be something new. It’s same rehashed stories. I’m sure she could provide insight to a side of Mike that would haven’t seen. If not her then at least the kids. What was he like off the court? How did he balance the game and the preparation with family life? We know this about several other high profile men but not Mike.

Yeah you’re right, it would be nice to get more insight on who he truly was/is off the court. What his home life was like, I can agree with that. But the documentary is focusing on his “Basketball” life.

I was gonna say the documentary was basically a fluff piece to make him look good etc...

But, he actually doesn’t look like a “Good Guy” and a fun guy to be around basketball wise. He looks ultra competitive and not really a fun guy to be around. But we really don’t know what he was like and I guess that’s what many are speaking on.

Wait, he hasn't seen the shit?

Niggas hating from the parking lot ain't even in the club!

Pretty much.

ESPN: Hey Ken, you heard about new MJ Bulls documentary?

Ken: No I didn’t see it yet but

giphy.gif

I don't get how people don't get the time jumps lol
It's literally going to the last season
and then clearly going to the origin of how every player arrived at the last season

They did Jordan first slightly because the rest will be about him

they did a full story on pippen how he arrived and everything to get to the last season

then rodman

then phil

so then as they go into the last season you know everything behind all the decisions they've made and how they bonded together lol

its weird that people don't see that to me it's been the same pattern.

ALSO

the point of the documentary is to get Michael Jordan's perspective
we don't get his perspective on anything it's not a piece about how others feel about jordan
it's a piece about how jordan feels about everything and everyone else that he never shares

lol

Ken if you want to do an investigative report on Jordan go ahead
this isn't what this is. It's an account from the man himself

I watched the first two episodes but it is a puff piece x 10. I’ve seen better 30 for 30 documentaries and all this proves in Michael Jordan is the most manufactured athlete in modern history.

Corona has cleared the fog. We now see the classism and racism the NBA is built upon much better as well. Celeb worship dying hasnt helped either.

When did your opinion of him change though?
Were you praising him just to impress cranrab?

Do you actually watch NBA games? The league is not as good as it was back then because there is so much marginal talent now, its watering the game down. Guys are coming into the league not knowing fundamental skills, not knowing how to run an offense, play defense (huge problem), and not knowing how to play within a team setting (another huge problem).

Players back then were smarter and had a much better grasp of these concepts. Now, guys just want to go one on one or jack FGA after FGA to get on sportscenter.

 That statement could not be any further from the truth considering the fact that a 40 year old Michael Jordan came back and dropp 20+ ppg. Just imagine what he would be doing in this watered down league if he were in his prime.

How many current players in the NBA will be called a LEGEND after they retire? Only Shaquille O'Neal and Tim Duncan... Maybe Jason Kidd (because of his versatility) and potentially Dwyane Wade and LeBron James. That's it.
Didnt read the article yet as Im sure its more of the same old BS. Like I said last year when I made my list of top 5 SGs in the league, Wobe wasnt included and still isnt top 5 in my opinion and that is why I dont understand why people (sports writers) continue to say he is the most talented player in the league when he's not even the most talented player on his own team.

My problem with the whole "Wobe phenomenon" has always been the comparison to Jordan because if you look deeply into it, there really is nothing to merit a comparison other than they could both score. Once these sportswriters admit that Bryant was never good enough to be the next Jordan and is nothing more than a one dimensional scorer that owes everything to O'Neal then I'd have nothing else to say.
A few things Wobe will never accomplish:

Awards

NBA Rookie of the Year (1985)
NBA Defensive Player of the Year (1988)
NBA MVP (1988, 1991, 1992, 1996, 1998)
NBA Finals MVP (1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998)
NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time Team (1997)
14 time All-Star
Olympic Gold Medal Winner—1984, 1992
2000 ESPY Athlete of the Century

Records

Most scoring titles—10
Highest career scoring average—30.1
Highest career scoring average playoffs—33.4
Most consecutive games scoring in double figures—866
Highest single series scoring average NBA Finals—41.0 (1993)
Most NBA Finals MVP awards (6)

Looking at the evidence, I think it's safe to say that Wobe is a much better player than Michael Jordan was.

Good thing this thread was a joke though, nice one geechiedan
I'm sure there are more quotes of your praise for him, but I won't dig that much further. QueenT might disown you and take back his likes.

While,I enjoy the documentary they should have gone into why the Pistons didn't shake the Bulls hands. The documentary never told how Jordan basically said the Pistons were bad champions and shitting on the city of Detroit, a few days before Game 4. That was the reason, why the Pistons didn't shake the Bulls hands after they got swept.

Meanwhile, the Celtics did the same exact thing to the Pistons,a few years earlier yet nobody in the media rarely criticized that Celtics team like they were doing to the Pistons last week.

Only people who dislike Last dance are Fans of teams The Bulls Feasted on in the 90s or LeBronze fans

Not true

I love it

And it is steadily disintegrating my soul every damn week

Much like MJ did my Knicks at the end of every single season.

That being said, it has issues already but i would rather wait till i have seen the whole thing before I give any real criticism

Kaboom

And another big mistep

Making a big deal of McHale shaking zeke hand

When it was Zeke that CHASED HIM DOWN

And Larry CURSED MCHALE THE F*CK OUT FOR THAT IMMEDIATELY

And told him to never do that again

But ummmm

We just gonna conveniently ignore that.

Cuz for some reason THAT seems to be the major complaint

the time jumps

A large segment of viewers want straight linear storytelling as much as possible.

Go to the zerozerozero thread

Dudes on here killing that series for the perspective changes

And it is REALLY good

I think its because of binge watching and attention spans, its a completely different viewer now.

Question is will creatives like you, have to CHANGE the way you write to accommodate that audience?

No cause that audience is fickle.
Theyll hate it now
Then discover it a year later and act like they watched it all along.

But this ain't about the Celtics and the Pistons

They covered that in the Pistons 30 for 30
And Isaiah mentioned it in this documentary
How much more did they need to go into it?

Manufactured = fake image and persona
Does not have to do with his play on the court where he is still a top 3 player (along with LeBron and Kareem)

you are talking apples and oranges which I’m not surprised being that you are a fan of a high-level luciferian that was written out of the script and people are still mourning.

You really think that THIS audience is Gonna do that?

They seem more hardheaded and difficult

I don't think they gonna get smarter more discerning and more patient

We on lockdown and we SEEING how these folk are TIGER KING is being seen as an example of a GOOD doc

Its crazy insane and funny ok but we saying its a GOOD DOCUMENTARY SERIES?

Again i am NOT director editor nor documentarian

But i don't see how you can tell this story in linear way.

This is the best way to do this.

But...it is far from perfect but i need to see the WHOLE thing first.

So you're actually not in agreement with QueenT that Jordan is overrated? Is that what you're saying? Cause from reading those quotes, it sounds to me like you're giving him a lot of praise, but yet I've never seen you engage in this debate with your mas..I mean QueenT.

Ok on that you 100%

But that is on the director

He making it a focal point and i felt the bad boys, dream team, rodman AND lakers v Celtics docs covered this well and better.

But at the same time to see how much it apparently STILL bothers Jordan?

i kinda understand his decision to focus on it

But much like Reinsdorf getting a complete free pass...

Its the director responsiblity to make this thing right FACTUALLY
