I dont even watch the nba, but I can answer that shit......

    , Never. He's labelled a rapist and now they labelling him a dirty Player.. Jordan brought the whole works to the Table.. and people were quick to forgive Jordan. Kobe will neva get that. Just like Barry Bonds.. unless you meant him beating some of jordan stats...

will kobe be better than MJ by careers end?

A few things Wobe will never accomplish:

Awards

NBA Rookie of the Year (1985)
NBA Defensive Player of the Year (1988)
NBA MVP (1988, 1991, 1992, 1996, 1998)
NBA Finals MVP (1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998)
NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time Team (1997)
14 time All-Star
Olympic Gold Medal Winner—1984, 1992
2000 ESPY Athlete of the Century

Records

Most scoring titles—10
Highest career scoring average—30.1
Highest career scoring average playoffs—33.4
Most consecutive games scoring in double figures—866
Highest single series scoring average NBA Finals—41.0 (1993)
Most NBA Finals MVP awards (6)

Looking at the evidence, I think it's safe to say that Wobe is a much better player than Michael Jordan was.

Good thing this thread was a joke though, nice one geechiedan

ummm yeah...yeah it was a JOKE...haha..i got you guys :o

Kobe is a great player but MJ set the bar too high. In fact, none of the current players in the NBA will overtake MJ as the GOAT.

I agree with the last two posts. And the guy who mentioned the current labels on Kobe. The NBA machine is just not behind him enough, and Kobe has to deal with something Jordan never had - salary caps.

But everyone has to admit...it would have been a hell of a game to see them 2 go at it in their primes!!!

The NBA machine is just not behind him enough,

This is an interesting concept that is rarely brought up.

Kobe is one of the best but he cant lead a team and that is why even if he scores 100 in a game hes no jordan.Garnett has a triple double almost every game and he will never be jordan. Cant lead a team= dont even put his name in it.

David stern in one of his interviews mentioned that ,The league will NEVER depend on one Player to Carry it again., Like they did with Jordan... So Kobe loses on that point alone.

What r u talking about the salary cap was in full effect when MJ was playing. As a matter of fact he volunteered to get his salary reduced to 4 million a year in 91 or so, so they could re-sign Scottie Pippen because of the cap. The Larry Bird exception wasn't in effect then it came about a year later or so, that's why you saw the big boom in player salaries, not because there was no cap (that's baseball) but because of the larry bird exception which said that a team could go over the cap to re-sign their own free agents. That's how MJ got those 3 contracts worth $33, 31, and 30 Million. The Larry Bird exception was the reason the lockout happened. The owners wanted to get rid of it and the players wanted to keep it in the new CBA.

Get the story straight and for the record if MJ was playing in today's league, it wouldn't even be a question.

Michael Jordan was a great player....the NBA machine built him to be what he became....he won titles (although I always said it was being in the right place at the right time). He won his titles as Magic, Bird, and the Pistons got old....there was no one else to really deal with but the Bulls. The greatest teams should be judged by who they played to win titles...The Old Lakers, Phx, Portland, Seattle and Utah (twice) isnt too impressive to me. In fact if Hugh Hollins doesnt make the "dumb call" against the Knicks....a Scottie Pippen led Bulls team while MJ was playing baseball wouldve been in the Finals. If Pippen doesnt evolve...Jordan wouldnt have rings. Period! Jordan never took the abuse Kobe takes for being a selfish player and believe me they were identical before Pippen stepped it up. The reason is the NBA thrived off of individuality and to this day they still do. Jordan was the best thing and the worst thing that ever happened to the NBA. The worst thing because now all kids growing up aspire to be "the man"...everybody wants to be "the highlight"...everybody wants to be "like Mike". This is why the NBA pretty much sucks....nice individuals but not too many solid teams.

The NBA, ESPN, Shoes, Commercials made Jordan. The rings validated him....the NBA already had you thinking he was the best there ever was before he had won his first ring. Stats are overated....if you shoot enough and have the green light along with the skills you can obtain stats. Kobe is a great player (the best in the game right now) and anyone who argues this is a hater and doesnt know basketball. His peers in the NBA said it...hands down he is a nightmare to guard....he is the most clutch...and his desire to compete and win is unmatched. Thats why anyone that says Kobe is selfish and blah blah blah is silly because Kobe wants to win more than anyone in the league and if passing to bums like Smush, Kwame, Sasha, and Radmonovich was the key to winning....he would but they dont produce so he has to shoot and shoot and shoot (last nights game he had to do it all for them to win).

All this being said I love Jordan...I love Kobe....but the best player ever to me is Magic Johnson. And if I have to explain to any of you why this is so....then its evident you dont have a clue. But I dont expect most of you to agree because most of you think Young Jeezy is better than Rakim.

I rebuke you lil niggas!

I don't know where to start. You seem to validate Kobe's greatness but almost appear to suggest Jordan's by default (refer to everything you typed in bold).

You suggest that the teams that the Bulls went through to win titles wasn't too "impressive" to you. All of those teams were solid except for the Lakers. Portland would've been a better test but the Lakers experience got them in the Finals, barely. In fact Detroit was strong but the elevation of Pippen's game pushed the Bulls over the edge. In fact, after the Bulls knocked them off, Daley said that "Pippen killed us." Jordan had already been at the level that he needed to be.

Also, NY was strong and had the Bulls coming back to the old Chicago stadium down 0-2 in a best of seven series in which the Bulls won in seven. If you remember correctly it was Jordan who had done what no one else had, making the X Man look like a str8 bitch. He simply dominated that game and the series.

You need to talk to your man Magic, because he even said that Jordan was the greatest, along with Isiah & many other HOF's & future HOF's. Who are we to question when they are the ones who faced him nightly? :hmm:

Btw, I think Rakim > Jeezy.

 I breath a sigh of relief. Very insightful post. I'm glad someone said what I was thinking.

I am not a big Kobe fan (I don't like his attitude) but he is the best right now.

If he could jump like Jordan it would be harder for people to say who is better. ( I am talking fan perception )

Bottom line, in my opinion -- Basketball is a team sport and it is very hard to choose a hands down G.O.A.T. as opposed to individual sports like tennis or golf.

Good response which is what this should be about...but I didnt really big up Kobe like you said. At the same time I not on Mike's dick like most of the world. The bottomline this is a team game and both these cats got a lot of similarities...so close that its almost eerie. Of course what Mike accomplished and also the icon that he is will have people saying that hes the best. Really is there a best...we love to compare instead of enjoying people and appreciating them for who they are. If you watched basketball back in the day before all the glitz and glamour you would say Russell, Wilt, Jerry West, and so on. I think from a fans point of view...with the highlight dunks...high scoring performances...and so forth is where Magic and them probably do think he was superior. The best athlete is not necessarily the best player. Its just my opinion...I mean look at Steve Nash...if Steve Nash had about 3 rings...you might could really say the white boy has been the best player in the league for the last 5-6 years. But we never will because he aint the highlight. I'll give you this Jordan had the most talent....but I refuse to say he was the best player. If they tell me to start a team with anyone...hands down I take Magic because hes going to turn sour grapes into wine...Magic couldve easily averaged 30 (without the athleticism) but instead he became the ultimate team player. Kareem is hurt...its game 6 against Philly....oh no what are we going to do...No problem...a rookie named Magic will play center and score 42 points...grab 15 boards...get 7 assists and lead us to victory.

But its my opinion...also as far as the Bulls and who they beat in the Finals...besides Utah who they played the year before the rest of them teams were fresh meat to finals having made it years ago and were in awe. And the Lakers were at the end of their run. Magic made it the finals 9 years out of the 12 he played....not only did he go through tought teams in the West when basketball was a team game but he had to beat Bostons, the Philly's, the Detroit's....great teams with hall of famers up and down their lineups. When he lost...he lost to great teams and then finally the Jordan led Bulls. Its the Roy Jones thing....was Roy really that good? Yeah he alright but he didnt fight when it was Sugar Ray, Roberto Duran, Tommy Hearns, and Marvin Hagler in the division. Bulls were great but again I think they played in the right era. Showtime against the Bulls....the Bulls get ran off the floor!

"I rebuke you lil niggas!"

:smh: Kobe is what Kobe is.

MJ is the GOAT. Period. Kobe keeps his name on tongues as a celeb. MJ is studied, and respected.

When Kobe walks off the court, he will be forgotten.

just to add on to the remark made earlier talking bout the bulls didnt play no solid team in the finals, thats bullshit. (Lakers)Magic Johnson,James worthy(Blazers)clyde Drexler,Cliff Robinson,Terry Porter(Suns)Charles Barkley,Kevin Johnson(Sonics)Shawn Kemp,Gary Payton(Jazz)Karl Malone,John Stockton, and lets not forget the two hardest teams they had to beat to get to the finals, and these two teams were tougher and better then the bulls rivals in the finals, DETROIT PISTONS and NEW YORK KNICKS

You'd mentioned that Jordan wouldn't have won without Pippen, which is true. We can also say that Magic wouldn't have won without Kareem, Worthy, Nixon, Scott, etc. When you speak on Jordan's success you factor Pippen into the equation but fail to do so when speaking on Magic, in regard to who he played with. He had way more talent surrounding him than Jordan. I have always thought that Lakers team was the best i'd seen from a roster stand point. Put Magic on those Bulls team & have him have as stellar a career as he did in LA. :smh:

I've never seen anyone perform with the ferociousness that Mike did. Not Magic, The J, Bird, or anyone else. He was gonna win period. This kat led a team to 6 Finals in 6 tries. Going into the first Finals, Pat Riley said "the Lakers are gonna win, because you have to lose first." :smh: He didn't didn't factor the Jordan effect into the equation. We basically swept that series. Everyone was nervous except, Jordan. Grant 6 points and we lose by 2? It was a wrap and he killed them in game two, the game where he went to the cup switching hands in mid-air. You know the one.

You can say that Magic had weaknesses. His jump shot being one, plus he wasn't known to be a great defensive player. When Jordan got to the top of his game, he had none. That can't be said for no other player. Who was more of a complete player than Jordan? When you needed a block he got it. A steal, rebound or points. He was dangerous anywhere on the floor. That can't be said for many players.

Jordan shot 50% for his career. Guards aren't shoot 50% for a season nowadays including Kobe.
