Report: Jets to name Geno Smith starter today

This may not be why the Jets were hesitant to pay Ryan Fitzpatrick this offseason, but it makes it convenient that they didn’t invest.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Jetshave decided to change starting quarterbacks, benching Fitzpatrick in favor of deposed starterGeno Smith.

Fitzpatrick has struggled, but Jets coach Todd Bowles initially said he was sticking with him after Monday’s loss to the Cardinals. He walked back a bit of that support yesterday, opening the door to give Smith a second chance to be the starter.

The numbers alone justify the move, as Fitzpatrick has five touchdowns and 11 interceptions for the 1-5 Jets.

I actually see this as worse and a sign of weakness...

right after that game NOBODY would have blamed Todd if he said we gonna seriously evaluate the game plan going forward...

Sometimes they know, sometimes they get pressured by ownership to make the move after all of the criticism comes down.

I just remember his face when they played the BILLS last year late in the season, dude has this "I'm smiling because I don't know shit" look on his face. In a damn near Jets playoff game.

Honestly Decker wasn't doing much this season anyway. They have a plethora of talented young receivers and Marshall. Whats killing the Jets is lack of running game and functional TE play. Coach should get those aspects flowing immediately at the beginning of the game and then let the other aspects of the offense show later.

I agree with your sentiments towards Fitz, no love lost there. Just saying that Bowles basically pushed him to #4 because after Geno shows that his game hasn't changed, he has two untested QBs he has to try out on the field before he can go back to Fitz or just wait for that pink slip at the end of the season.

Been a jets fan for about 20/25 years. This is so disheartening. After the end of last season the only saving grace was believing this team was going to be better and at least make the playoffs. I'll be shocked if we win 3 more games this year. Being in the media capital of the world and having a fan base of mostly racist cacs didnt help Geno and it won't help Bowles. Geno struggles with pocket presence and holding onto the ball to long otherwise he can play. He just never got a chance believe it or not. He has to lead Sunday and win or he's done on this team.

No doubt. I'd give him one more year, doubt the Jets organization will though, if he has a ten plus loss season. Like Lovie Smith in Tampa, only gave that man two seasons.
