Everyone's looking at the big number (which he'll only achieve if he puts up MVP-type numbers every season), but the fact remains he signed a very team-friendly deal.
Yes, he's getting paid but he could have gotten way more.
Maybe the team and his agent scared him enough with the thought that the salary cap could actually go down in a few years once the effects of this pandemic is truly felt.
Folks can call me a "BGOL agent" all they want (these same folks would have signed for a year's worth of free Popeye's chicken sandwiches, lol), but the fact remains he sold himself a bit short with this deal.

Yep and unlike most deals he hitting em hard in his glory years, not the back end. With his endorsements he can be a billionaire. Man, I did it wrong :smh:

A good breakdown of his deal. In future years the team has to guarantee the next years
salary and bonus a year in advance early in the new league year, for example in march of 22 they will have to guarantee his salary for the 23 season. In 26 or 27 this dude is guaranteed 60 mill for one season

That is a terrible deal for someone with so much leverage. The market will outgrow this per year average in 5 years, and he wont even be 30.

His signing bonus is only 10 Million cash. Thats craaaazy.

Kirk cousin still got the best deal...all cash guaranteed.

Read the breakdown posted above. The future bonuses and salaries will be guaranteed each year for the future year if he's on the roster on the stsrtof the league year. So in march of 2022 the team will have to guarantee his 2023 salary or release him. The last 7 years of the deal are basically guaranteed year to year of he can hit the open market.

In 2026 the team will have to trigger his 2027 salary guaranteed of 60 million or he gets the chance to renegotiate a new deal.

Yes, Dak believes he’s won 10 Super Bowls and he’s playing football as a favor to Jerry.

Dak doesn’t believe that Jerry’s offered him enough money that he thinks he deserves because all of his MVP’s and Super Bowl rings.

This cac broke it down pretty well on Dak's worth, watch till the end when you have 10-15 minutes he goes by play.

Patrick Mahomes joins ownership group of Kansas City Royals
Nick Shook
AROUND THE NFL WRITER

Patrick Mahomes became a financially secure man earlier this summer, and he isn't wasting much time investing his wealth.

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback has joined the ownership group of Major League Baseball's Kansas City Royals, the team announced.

"We are very proud and excited to have Patrick as our partner in the ownership group of this franchise," Royals principal owner and CEO John Sherman said in a statement from the team. "Along with the rest of Kansas City, I have watched Patrick compete and become an extraordinary leader, both on and off the football field.

"Consistent with the entirety of our ownership group, he has a deep commitment to Kansas City and a real passion for the game of baseball -- dating back to his childhood."

Mahomes' baseball background makes this more enjoyable than the usual addition of a famous minority owner. His father, Pat, pitched in Major League Baseball for over a decade, allowing for the younger Patrick to develop an intimate understanding of the sport from a young age. In a nod to his fastball-firing father, Patrick wore his dad's Mets jersey to Arrowhead Stadium before a Chiefs game in 2018.

"I'm honored to become a part owner of the Kansas City Royals," Mahomes said in the same release. "I love this city and the people of this great town. This opportunity allows me to deepen my roots in this community, which is something I'm excited to do."

The Royals underwent an ownership change less than a year ago, with the former Cleveland Indians vice chairman and minority investor Sherman completing the purchase of the Royals from the late David Glass in November.

Sources: Kansas City Chiefs to restructure QB Patrick Mahomes' contract, save $17M on salary cap

The Kansas City Chiefs are expected to restructure quarterback Patrick Mahomes' contract to provide some cap relief, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The team is expected to convert Mahomes' $21.7 million roster bonus to a signing bonus in the coming days, which would save the Chiefs $17 million against the salary cap, sources said.

In July, the two sides reached agreement on a 10-year contract extension that ties Mahomes to Kansas City through the 2031 season.

League sources told Schefter then that the deal is worth $450 million over the 10-year period and could be worth up to $503 million. The extension includes a $140 million injury guarantee, as well as a no-trade clause.

The Chiefs picked up Mahomes' fifth-year option for the 2021 season in April, putting him under contract for the next two seasons. Mahomes had two years and $27.6 million left on his deal -- $2.8 million in 2020 and $24.8 million in 2021. The 10-year extension puts him under contract with the Chiefs for the next 12 seasons.

Mahomes, 25, has won a league MVP and a Super Bowl MVP, and he has led the Chiefs to the championship game in each of the past two seasons with a win over the San Francisco 49ers and a loss this past season to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Kansas City is hopeful Mahomes will have recovered from February toe surgery to participate in the team's June minicamp. The expectation is that he will be ready to go by the start of training camp later in the summer.
