Vandamation.....it's your turn homey.

For personal reasons I wish dudes like Tip, JuJu, Madlib, XtraP, etc would come together for at the very least a mix tape with the illest spitters like Ghostface, Nas, and Doom etc etc.
Nothing better than sample based loops over dope drums.

To take this a step further. Why aren't Preemo, Pete, Large Pro, JuJu, etc. still actively making music? Especially with the internet being what it is, they don't need approval from some dickhead A&R to get their shit out. We treat these guys like they're ghosts when they are still breathing and relatively young.

They all are still doing music... To me... What happen is they got caught up in the WHOLE shift in music that took place... Like when Puffy took over... And when Jay-Z did the Rockafella thing...Now, Preemo still shined but guys like Puffy... Jay-Z... Cash Money... Ruff Ryders... MAster P with No Limit... They all did the same thing to a degree... They got their OWN in house producers... Puffy had the Hit-Men and Tone and Poke... Jay had Kanye and Just-Blaze... RuffRyder had Swiss Beatz.... Cash Money had Manny... NO Doubt had Beatz by the pound... Camps started finding their own producers... Plus, nothing lasts forever... Large, JuJu, Pete and those guys had their time... and they DO STILL make music.... Believe me when I tell you... When Nas wants to get his MOJO BACK, he calls Large. Pete just did an album with Smith and Wesson... I don't know what's up with JuJu but i'm sure he's doing his thing... THe ONLY person that I really DYING to hear something from in terms of beats is Q-Tip... Tip needs to stop playing and start making beats again...

what was the sticky fingaz and 50 cent beef about??

Yeah, you really put that in perspective. I never thought about that era in that light before. As far as the music, I was familiar with most of the stuff you named, but I was more so talking about doing stuff with newer artist or better still go back to finding and putting out their own artist (who don't sound like poor man's versions of their former artists). Starting labels. Being active and able to still have influence over the sound of hip hop music. I think they all fell back and got too comfortable in their lanes and jaded with the changes in music. Instead of complaining I wish they would show people what this shit is supposed to sound like.

Damn I was politicking about the Knicks with a brother who grew up with some of my favorite artists! That's dope as shit

KNICKS 2013

Tip is in my Top whatever list regardless. 3 straight LP of just press play banging drums and unparalleled loops. Multiple loops like he was trying to catch up to the Bomb Squad.

vandam what happen to finese and sinquist? also remember Antoinette? she was fine in a hoodish around the way vibe?
Also, what is going on with Jeru Da Damaja? kool g rap ( a street dude as he portrays) What's background on cold chillin records?

Most of the rappers and producers you know got screwed in recording contracts? are they eating?

sorry for mad questions LOL feel free to answer anyone

ah hip hop nostalgia.

They had a cat in BGOL van silk I m not sure if he went by that name on bgol but he goes waaaaaay back in hip hop.he used to talk about old school stuff and stuff in the early 90's like MOB STYLE AZIE. i into him when he had a record store i believe. anyway great thread

A lot of things happened too... The rap game changed from what those guys were used to... For a while, labels wanted movements and cliques that already had producers in place... BUT... you're also right about comfort zones too... and being jaded... The thing about Large, Pete Rock, Preemo and Q-Tip... Those guys HATED being label offices... They'd rather being a studio or in a MOM and POP record store looking for breaks... That's what they talked about when they were around each other... They'd be like,' Yo... guess what??? I found a sealed copy of Chicken Strut by the Meters at this spot in New Brunswick, New Jersey'... or the conversation would be,' Yo, Pete... What snare did you use on,'Jussumen' Remix'... then Pete would tell them how he used 5 different snares from 5 different records.'
I say that to say... They were more into the music than the business side... BUT... at the same time... Those cats aren't reckless spenders either... which is why even to this day... All of those cats are ANTI- YOUNG BUCK dudes... I mean... think about it... Large is going to San Fran this weekend... I know he's getting paid to do it...

I know Sydney(Finesse) used to date Evil D from the Beatminerz for a while... Sheraine(Synquis) I haven't seen her since High School... Antoinette WAS A FINE ASS CHICK with CRAZY PHAT AZZ... :sleazy: When I interned at Power Play Studios, I used to see her a lot... BUT... She had a REAL shady manager name Jay something( I can't remember his last name)... I think he fucked her rep up from being such a FUCKIN dirt bag... I used to love that chick... and she was cool as fuck too...
I don't know Jeru... I guess he's still making music... Kool G Rap is AN EXTREMELY COOL DUDE... He's a guy who hustling and shit but G Rap got his deal when he was 18 or 19 years old... so he wasn't on the streets like that for too long... Now, the cats he used to run with were REAL niggas... Like a cat named Kay-Von(R.I.P.) from Corona was a REAL STREET DUDE... Plus, G was tight with Eric B and those dudes... Paid in Full Posse... Some of those cats used to really do their thing in the streets... I've heard the name Van Silk... I can't remember if he rapped... DJ... or produced... BUT I do remember the name... He's an old school cat though... Producers get paid... Back then, dude were getting paid... BUT... it wasn't like how Pharrell... Swizz Beatz... Scott Storch... Dr.Dre... and those guys were getting it... Large, Pete Rock, Preemo... Marley Marl( who doesn't get the credit he deserves)Tip, Howie T... Herbie Luv Bug... Mark the 45 King... Those guys laid the ground work for a lot of those guys...

Then they'd ask me who shot Tupac and Biggie.:lol:

Oh, and as far as Stevie Wonder, you can't beat cuzz in Air hockey (Unless you cheat like me)

The Story is like that Charlie Murphy one, y'all wont believe it if I tell it again.

3. The Beatnuts are held in high regard because of JUJU... JuJu is OFFICIAL TISSUE when it comes to Beats and Crates...

Always thought The Beatnuts and JuJu were underrated, wish Fashion aka Al Tariq stayed with them though

He's still rapping. He's done songs sort of recently with Vado, Ron Browz, A Mafia, Mysonne and Duke Da God

Complex just put up a series of recollections from Large Professor.

Peep it...

http://www.complex.com/music/2012/0...he-stories-behind-his-classic-records-part-i/
Nice... REAL Nice... I was around for a lot of those records...
Tell some stories about the studio on Archer Ave in Jamaica.
Two things about 1212 Studios...
1. The building's security was a bunch of Ansar Muslims... Most of whom were REAL close friends with Dr. York.... In fact, Dr. York's best friend,Yah-Yah AKA Pops was head security... He was mad FUNNY... and cool as hell...

2. For me, the illest thing about the studio was... PAUL C... :wepraise::wepraise::wepraise:
I say that because Paul C was straight up and down white boy... with CUT OFF ROCK N ROLL Tee Shirts.... Tight ass jeans... the whole thing... BUT... Paul C was the one who taught us about breaks... where to shopping for breaks... Paul was not only a dope producer... he was a Dope engineer too... Paul C used to always want to battle me in drumming because I used to play drums when I was real young... Alot of ILL records made out of 1212 Studios... Paul C completely changed my perception of what role race plays in Hip Hop... He opened my eyes to NOT being close minded when it comes to ANY RACE in Hip Hop... SImply put... He was the FUNKIEST WHITE DUDE I'VE EVER MET IN MY LIFE... AND HE IS THE MASTER SENSEI WHEN IT COMES TO DIGGING IN THE CRATES FOR ME...

1212 studios was in what was called 'The Music Building'... At the time, there were ONLY two buildings like it in the city( one in Jamaica and the other around 35st and 8 ave in Manhattan)... These building were basically rehearsal rooms for bands( Mostly Rock Bands)... Back in the day, Bands like Metallica... Guns N Roses... Van Halen... Motley Crue... would roll up in that building and practice... 1212 Studios ONLY took up two rooms in that building... The music Building itself had 100+ rooms... The sad thing about that place is... A fuckin Bitch burnt it down and that place has never been re-built... There was a lot of history in that place... The big homey Jazzy J lost a lot of equipment in that place when it burnt down... I was lucky because I was week away from putting down a deposit in there... I had picked out a room and everything... :smh:
