You constantly drop hints of stories in the hip hop threads. Can we get a thread where you drop a lil history for the fam, big homey?? Only shit that you wish to share, no pressure.

No Doubt... Sometimes, I loved that school and sometimes I hated that school...
Myself, Large Pro, Akinyele Finesse and Synquis, E Money Bags and Divine Styler( I think he stayed for only one year though) all went there at the same time. It's funny because before I got to know AK, him and his people tried to jump me and my boys on the last day of school...:lol::lol:

One year later, Ak was coming through my hood going to Large's crib and we were doing the same in Lefrak(even though AK lived in the Sherwood Buildings). In fact, I think AK had his motorcycle accident and Large and few others made a tape for him while he was in the hospital and we all just got cool after that... MAN... I had a lot of CRAZY memories from Bowne...

I don't know if a whole thread is necessary but I'll say this... My Hip Hop history is of a certain era... I've said it many times, I grew up with Large Professor, Mike Geronimo, Royal Flush, Mr.Cheeks, Chy-Skillz(he produced ONYX'S first album) and a few others... I also got to know Nas when he was 16 years old through Large. SO, I basically saw Large's WHOLE history in Hip Hop... From his first studio sessions at 1212 Studios... to him being in high school and producing Eric B and Rakim's 'Let the Rhythm Hit'em' album and Kool G Rap's 'Wanted Dead or Alive' album at the same time while trying to graduate. I don't mind sharing what I know about certain things... I just don't know if have enough stories for a whole thread. Maybe I do...:lol::lol:
But I do appreciate the sentiment, my brother... Salute...

Why don't you think Royal Flush and Mic Geronimo blew up?

label or era?

Because this :smh:

I always wondered how much he paid Puff for this. They didn't use an indie budget for this album.

That's part of it... The other part is... I TRULY believe IRV put shit in the game... :smh:

What was the cause of the split between Irv and Mic? Speaking of Mic, if anyone would've told me that Pac or Biggie would end up having bigger careers than him I would've laughed in their face. Boy was I off the mark.

The split between Mic and Irv was IRV... Irv changed... He went from a real cool humble dude to a COMPLETE ASSHOLE... When he got to Def Jam he really thought he was LYOR COHEN... The funny thing is... It was Mic who hooked Ja and Irv up...Mic, Irv and Ja went to Bayside High School together.and Mic put Irv up on Ja.
yo vand wtf did them two Canadian niggaz in main source do? what the fuck were their purpose?
At first, there were actually 3 DJs... At first, Main Source was Large, K-Cut, Sir Scratch and a dude name Jambe(pronounced Jahm-Bay)... Jambe was nicest of the three and he taught the other two how to DJ... I actually introduced Large to K- Cut when we were in Bowne... Kev and I were cool... I knew Sir Scratch but I didn't even know him and Kev were brothers. What happened was Jambe, who used to live in Lefrak, moved to New Jersey and he basically got pushed out the group. After Jambe left, Kev used to do all the cuts and he did some beats too. He did the song 'Peace'. Sir Scratch AIN'T DO SHIT BUT DRIVE THEM AROUND... THAT NIGGA WAS A FUCKIN DUD... :smh: He used to talk MAJOR SHIT ABOUT WHAT HE COULD DO BUT NEVER DID SHIT... And that nigga used to dress like LOU RAWLS TOO...That nigga was str8 WEIRDO... He was in the group because his mom, Ms. McKenzie, was the manager and she was one of those mothers who always made her sons do everything together. So if Kev wanted to be in a group with Large, Shawn( Sir Scratch) had to be in it too... :smh:

You Already KNOW, FamALam, as I KNEW there HAD to be something significant & sentimental about them epic joints.

Its funny because, maybe its me, but somewhere within that success, he even sounded & enunciated words somewhat like how Lyor did with his Israel accent :dunno:
Maybe he really spoke like that, maybe it was tongue & cheek, sarcastic or what have you.
You'd know better since you knew Irv way b4 he blew to that level.

I remember when he showed up in the hood in NewHaven, CT one weekend in the 90s for this local parade & a couple of local & hoodrat chicks were saying he was up in their projects.

Knew Mic was trying to make 'a comeback' after that MTV shit with him & his girl & all that music drama shit as I heard him on KaySlay one night in the early part of the new millennium.
After he blew up the spot with this

didnt hear much of him until

but I didnt peep that until it was '02 & I was out of the country.

ALWAYS Wondered what Irv's perspective on the bullshit between camel & his mentor JazO as in one of them BehindTheScenes interviews, I remember Irv distinctively saying that JazO "Was a REAL Hood kat" or "From the REAL Hood" in the same breath as he was referring to his protege. He knows the industry/game & both of them for a good minute so is the only one really qualified to give an unbiased outlook of that whole situation without giving a fuck who's toes get stepped on.

Damn, someone mentioned TheMuse:lol:
What about HomeBase, the RedParrot, theRedZone, 2iis and all them grimey & wild late & mid 90s spots that turned into HipHop clubs.

peace

Questions

1. Who made EPMD beats?
2. Is Tip really just loop digger and composer?
3. Are Beatnuts held in high regard amongst producers?

Hell Yeah... I remember the Muse... Mars... Hot Rod's... The Red Zone... The Building(my favorite)... The Palladium... The Underground... The Roxy... Wetlands...The California Club... Negril's... I remember The Tunnel when they used to have downstairs open to the public.... Those were some good times...

Irv was Lyor's son... Irv tried to do everything Lyor did... Shit was disgusting... :smh: IMO, when Jaz-O went the muslim route... That's when their relationship started to change... Jaz became an Ansar muslim and Jay was knee deep in the streets... To me, that was the beginning of Jay-Z going for self... Not that going for self is a bad thing... I just think that's when they really started going in separate directions... And YES!!! Those video did take me down memory lane...
what was the sticky fingaz and 50 cent beef about??
I think the whole 50 cent and Sticky situation had to do with 50 and Fredro getting into it... I think 50 may have put his hands on Fred and the rest was history... :dunno:

Shit I forgot about the California club! That shit was Kid Capri's home Lol! That shit use to be jam packed! The days playa! Im glad I can look back and feel happy that I survived them days! A lot of shit was cracking back then.

1. I don't know about the first album... But... The 'Whatchayousayin' Album was produced by the Engineers at Power Play Studios... Guys like Ivan 'Doc' Rodriguez and a few others had a hand in that album being produces...

2. Tip is one of the GREATEST CRATE DIGGERS OF ALL TIME... Q-Tip is the guy who help J-Dilla take his crate skills up a few notches. Tip's first two albums were produced without him knowing how to use a beat machine. I really wish Tip would start making beats again.

3. The Beatnuts are held in high regard because of JUJU... JuJu is OFFICIAL TISSUE when it comes to Beats and Crates...

Ironically we will be sponsoring a DJ set for Large Professor on Friday out here in the west coast.

He will be spinning 45's all night long...

For personal reasons I wish dudes like Tip, JuJu, Madlib, XtraP, etc would come together for at the very least a mix tape with the illest spitters like Ghostface, Nas, and Doom etc etc.
Nothing better than sample based loops over dope drums.
