OK... I know i'm getting older because I was talking to some of the younger men that I mentor (gasp) and we were trying to figure out who was funnier. Katt Willaims or Dave Chappelle and someone mentioned the whole Rick James bit. Then they tried to test me to see if I knew who Rick James was... smh... damn whippersnappers... so I said, "Do I know who he is? I got the record." And these fools to a one said, "What's a record?" At that point I was just dumbstruck. Then I realised that these kids are 16 and have no idea what a record album is. So I had to explain that and they were like WTF? You had to listen to your music at home? In one room? Not on your ipod or computer? LMBAO!! So that leads me to this question.

What is it that dates you? For me... it's probably got to be Lawrence Welk. I remember that show so clearly. The Bubbles, The Lennon Sisters... all of it. In fact that's all there was music wise on TV for a while. Especially when you only had three channels. Well 4 including PBS. Wait a minute... i'm dating myself even more.

Oh... you remember when TV actually went OFF? I mean seriously. At the end of the day TV went OFF! NO TV. TAKE YOUR ASS TO SLEEP!

My wife's co-worker didn't know what "Married With Children" was. She's 23, so I would think it is because she is young. However, her co-worker also thought the movie "The Artist" was a silent film, similar to "Wally"...smh, so she could also be an idiot.

I was talking to an old girlfriend of mine the other day,and...

I'm still learning the in and outs of my new truck with bluetooth.

The truck stays on for 10 minutes after you turn the key off.

We were talking and it cut her off...

We laughed, because the last time we had talked...there were no cells:eek:at least not affordable ones.

I remember the Lawrence Welk show too. Along with the bubbles and Lennon Sisters. But I wouldn't use those as reference points. How about:

1 cent bubble gum
1 cent Mary Jane candy
5 cent Baseball Cards (5 cards and a big stick of bubble gum)
6" 45 rpm of Motown's first hit "Money"
Westerns like Rawhide and Have Gun Will Travel
28 cents for premium gas  1970
32 cents for a loaf of bread

I remember Pop/Soda/Cold Drink used to be 89 cents. Now that shit is like $2.00

The Penny candy lady.... Anybody have those in their neighborhood?

Being Forced to go outside and play or clean the whole damn house. Now these lil fuckers don't even like fresh air.....

Looking all day for materials to build the perfect ramp to jump on your bike? My dumb ass used old drywall and damn near killed myself one time..

Actually dancing at parties, not grinding, but dancing!

Man I miss those days!

35 cents soda
cigarette machines
penny candy
75 cent a gallon gas
records,8tracks ,cassette tapes
B&W tv sets

We were signing autographs after a show and this one chick was blued up, hair and all. After gave me her cd to sign, I asked her if I should make it out to Smurfette, and her and her friends were like . I just signed it and ordered myself a Geritol shooter.

The Jacksons/ Off The Wall- 40's

Thriller/Bad- 30's

Dangerous/History- 20's

Shit...i must be one of the oldest men on this site!

I remember only having black & white, floor model tv's but that may be bc we were dirt poor.

But HBO was just getting started & you had to "mess up" channel 7 with the knob & hbo would play late at night.

Then showtime came out & there was aerobics with those girls with tights all up their crotch; i can still see that brunettes eyes...i was in love!

Next up, my lionel train set & the black & white Atari...and then, fucking without dickbags.

Dude, when my dad brought home Pong in the 70's, niggas wouldn't leave our apartment.

Remember having a rotary dial phone in my parents' apt that didn't have a modular jack and our phone number (after the area code) started with letters, not numbers. (212) AU5-0756.

More than anything else, this is the thing that dates me when I talk to younger people. It's an entirely foreign concept to them.

When you heard the National Anthem, :itsawrap: :lol::lol:

As one of the older heads, I remember:

Soda for $.89? I remember when a soda PLUS a bag of chips was a quarter.

I remember the Apollo moon landing (like it was yesterday).

I remember when riding the CTA (chi bus) was like a dime.

I remember when MLK was assassinated.

How about when a little kid used to be able to go buy cigarettes and alcohol at corner stores? I used to make cigarette and beer runs as a kid but those days are done.

Oh, shit! Me too! Back in the 70's, grownups didn't give a fuck about that! "Hey, run up to Majik Markit and get me a pack of Kool longs. Get yourself something and bring my damn change back.":lol::lol::lol:

EVERY neighborhood had a corner store you could buy candy and junk...I might make a half dozen trips there in any one day...errands for my mom..candy runs, etc.

Remember when folks could prank call you or send an unordered pizza to your house? Or when a cassette tape was part of your gear?

Playing outside. In the summer, from 8am to 8pm, we did nothing but play football, basketball, baseball, relay races, and ride bikes. I'll drive through the old neighborhood, and there isn't a single ball bouncing or kid laughing. Is everyone in the house playing Xbox?

And hide and go fuck! (Don't judge me.)

I remember the album jacket for Thriller, and I told my mom, "Michael Jackson has the greatest life in the world. He gets to hold baby tigers." I was like 4-5 but remember that like it was yesterday. The navy blue carpet, the album case with the U2 sticker on it, the stereo that had more buttons and switches than the International Space Station.

You were the shit if you had a portable cassette player with rewind. I don't have to flip the tape and fast forward, let me hit these two back arrows.

Post that joker. We had eight tracks in the crib but a mix tape? :smh::smh:

Yeah, my dad used to buy them. They were just 8 track tapes that had a collection of the current hot songs on them, and some used to have dope album cuts and B sides.
