Hell yeah. A lot of those buildings are empty in Crystal City. It’s not like it was 10 - 15 year ago.

I always knew Virginia would get the new Amazon site. It makes sense. I thought it would’ve been in Tyson’s Corner or Dulles. This is good though because it’s right next to Regan National (DCA) and right next to DC and the Pentagon area.

Majority of the facility will be automation. Don’t get excited thinking it’s gonna be filled up with 10,000 warehouse and white collar workers.

When they get that place built and in full operation, you gonna be scratching your head noticing it had no impact on local infrastructure or traffic.

I see more apt complexes and townhomes being built than anything and one can assume it's to try to keep up with the increase in people living in the area. I see a lot of people selling their homes to build out in the outskirts now like Knightdale and Garner as well.

Yeah. I bought my house back in 2015 and have already seen the value estimates shoot up over $30K without me doing any kind of additions or renovations. I'd luv to buy a new home in Knightdale and rent out my current home in the near future.

iirc one of the key requirements was being accessible to public metro. For the amount of money Amazon is going to invest they could have bought Marta a train just to shuttle people to the new headquarters and also incorporate the streetcar.

I'm sure they will do just fine where they are going.

Of the PROJECTED 50K jobs, how many are going to be six figures? That's marshmallow fluff.

I don't know how I feel about this. First off, that traffic is gonna be hell. Metro on the blue/yellow line is gonna be standing room only. Cost of living is going to ratchet up even further than it already is. Southeast DC across the river, watch out... Accelerated gentrification. I might have to put in a resume anyway. I hope my prime packages arrive same day from now on.

There are already Plenty of ways for a household to make $100k+ in the DMV because of the high ass cost of living and the abundance of jobs. If the average salary at Amazon is 100k, then that can only bode well for wage competition.

I can see what they're talking about and relate. Damn near every other week I'm receiving letters about buying my house. Companies have been buying homes in my neighborhood as well and turning around to rent them out too.

That infuriates me. It fucks up the housing market when people do that. There are a lot of people that really wants to own a home, but the people that already got paper can purchase with cash in hand and flip them shits with a 30 to 50% market up value while others trying to buy are stuck with 30 years loans. But I get it though. I'm just ranting

City of Atlanta should have committed giving up the Gulch or the area by Turner Field that the Braves were suppose to invest and build up but never did.

Georgia State owns that property now and already have plans to develop it.

I think some are thinking that this is going to be a warehouse type facility and not vast majority office jobs. There's only so much automation you can do with office jobs... it's not manual labor. Look at their main HQ... it has over 40,000 employees and this one will likely be larger. Those aren't going to be mainly automated jobs by any means.

This. Been reading through this thread and people talking about automation and thinking only a few jobs will be over 6 figures. They aren't going through this process to figure out where there putting a new warehouse fellas. It's the 2nd headquarters for a reason. Y'all are falling into the trap of thinking of Amazon as a warehouse shipping company. Y'all need to go into that IT certification thread again. AWS is no joke and a major player in the field. These jobs will be mostly software engineering jobs. If it's a headquarters, going to see a ton of executives too. But think of the jobs that are in a headquarters. Human Resources, Finance (Accounts Payable/Receivable, Payroll), Marketing, etc.
