[UPDATE 11.13] Amazon chooses Queens, NY & Arlington Virginia as its 2nd headquarters

Didn't know Crystal City had the available real estate for Amazon.
I wish them the best.
Hell yeah. A lot of those buildings are empty in Crystal City. It’s not like it was 10 - 15 year ago.

I always knew Virginia would get the new Amazon site. It makes sense. I thought it would’ve been in Tyson’s Corner or Dulles. This is good though because it’s right next to Regan National (DCA) and right next to DC and the Pentagon area.

Raleigh don’t have the housing for such a big move from Amazon.

Would have sent all the natives of the city right out and it’s already shifting.

Wherever Amazon goes, the change of the city is going to be dramatic.
Yeah but I kind of would've loved what it would've done for my house value. I work from home so the traffic issue wasn't a concern for me

Yeah. Housing price would have skyrocketed.

I think that was anything thing the article I was reading was talking about. The initial housing market would be so absurd that it could cause some problems. They said Raleigh has a housing shortage. Is that true?

Like pointed out earlier.

They ain’t gonna be that many jobs at this facility.

Majority of the facility will be automation. Don’t get excited thinking it’s gonna be filled up with 10,000 warehouse and white collar workers.

When they get that place built and in full operation, you gonna be scratching your head noticing it had no impact on local infrastructure or traffic.

Yeah I'd say there is. You'll have a tough time getting a brand new house in the Raleigh area. I see more apt complexes and townhomes being built than anything and one can assume it's to try to keep up with the increase in people living in the area. I see a lot of people selling their homes to build out in the outskirts now like Knightdale and Garner as well.

Sounds like they are building up. Same thing is happening to Charlotte. Plus, I don’t think millennials are loooking to buy now of days. Town homes and apts seems to be the thing for these growing cities.

Yeah. I bought my house back in 2015 and have already seen the value estimates shoot up over $30K without me doing any kind of additions or renovations. I'd luv to buy a new home in Knightdale and rent out my current home in the near future.

iirc one of the key requirements was being accessible to public metro. For the amount of money Amazon is going to invest they could have bought Marta a train just to shuttle people to the new headquarters and also incorporate the streetcar.
I'm sure they will do just fine where they are going.

Yeah. I was reading the average salary is going to be over 100k, so that’s going to turn any city on top of its head. And I think over 50k jobs.

WOW! hard to see that but Amazon is a juggernaut. See my thing is if Im there Im starting a small biz TOMORROW and building customer base ASAP. Something as simple as an ice cream parlor could becoming half a million dollar business in 2 years with that kind of influx.

WE as a people always late to the, well its not gonna be great for everybody but I can capitalize off of it party lol.

NoVA is already a crowded mess. This will make it worse. Meanwhile there is an entire plot of land where Landover Mall used to sit that has been vacant for years.

Of the PROJECTED 50K jobs, how many are going to be six figures? That's marshmallow fluff.
I don't know how I feel about this. First off, that traffic is gonna be hell. Metro on the blue/yellow line is gonna be standing room only. Cost of living is going to ratchet up even further than it already is. Southeast DC across the river, watch out... Accelerated gentrification. I might have to put in a resume anyway. I hope my prime packages arrive same day from now on.

There are already Plenty of ways for a household to make $100k+ in the DMV because of the high ass cost of living and the abundance of jobs. If the average salary at Amazon is 100k, then that can only bode well for wage competition.

Here is the article I read about the struggles of Apple and Amazon HQ coming to Raleigh.

I can see what they're talking about and relate. Damn near every other week I'm receiving letters about buying my house. Companies have been buying homes in my neighborhood as well and turning around to rent them out too.

That infuriates me. It fucks up the housing market when people do that. There are a lot of people that really wants to own a home, but the people that already got paper can purchase with cash in hand and flip them shits with a 30 to 50% market up value while others trying to buy are stuck with 30 years loans. :smh: But I get it though. I'm just ranting

Yeah but if we had the available money we'd probably be doing the same. That residual income is nothing to sneeze at

I wonder if the move is political?

I say that because I worked as a contractor for Exxon-Mobile in Fairfax VA.

They catered to politicians having laws changed for their benefit.

Y'all know there is no oil fields in the DMV.

You was reading my mind....I think it is political. I started having the same thoughts an hour ago

That ain’t gone happen, B. That plot of land is on the wrong side of the beltway and it’s too close to the hood. Yeah, I know there are $500,000 plus home across the beltway, not even a mile away. But the fact remains that plot of land is on the wrong side of the beltway for now.

I think some are thinking that this is going to be a warehouse type facility and not vast majority office jobs. There's only so much automation you can do with office jobs... it's not manual labor. Look at their main HQ... it has over 40,000 employees and this one will likely be larger. Those aren't going to be mainly automated jobs by any means.

just heard that this is not a definite.
Dallas is still in the running. a final decision will be made at the end of the month.

He is a white nationalist looking to create jobs that will gentrify the area push us out of prime spots.

Don't be a sheep, spread your online dollars to other businesses.

This. Been reading through this thread and people talking about automation and thinking only a few jobs will be over 6 figures. They aren't going through this process to figure out where there putting a new warehouse fellas. It's the 2nd headquarters for a reason. Y'all are falling into the trap of thinking of Amazon as a warehouse shipping company. Y'all need to go into that IT certification thread again. AWS is no joke and a major player in the field. These jobs will be mostly software engineering jobs. If it's a headquarters, going to see a ton of executives too. But think of the jobs that are in a headquarters. Human Resources, Finance (Accounts Payable/Receivable, Payroll), Marketing, etc.

This, the housing situation in Wake County is horrible. I'm thinking about moving to Chatham, Orange or Alamance when I retire.

Google and other tech companies use these outfits to gentrify an area. They will poorly hire minorities which trickles into the housing market. Near the election, this could be a dog whistle. Forget this healthcare garbage, we want earned income tax credits.
