TV News: ‘Good Times’ Voice Cast Revealed for Seth MacFarlane - Norman Lear Animated Series on Netflix

Anyone watch it?

What’s the verdict?

I really don't want to.

They just announced Velma second season after ALL those complaints and petitions.

And I truly believe its because the HATE WATCHING numbers is what did that.

So its like they using the game (the algorithm) against us

If we watch it? the ratings justify another season regardless of quality

If we don't watch it?

Well see you judging something you didn't even watch.

and especially because its "black" its gonna be used that we don't support Black content.

To me its telling that I do NOT see any of the white faces involved promoting this

And Steph aint either.

another thing the brother Carl Jones who is behind Boondocks and Black Dynamite was initially involved and BOUNCED

The original creator, Carl Jones, wrote on Twitter/X that he left the project during development due to creative differences.

I'm VERY confused how so much LEGIT talent completely f**ked this up.

How Steph Curry completely skating on all this mess?

@blackbull1970

Everyone involved is keeping quiet on it.

It was ranking high on Netflix’s Top 10 last week when it debuted but quickly dropped off of it in less than a week.

It ranked high cuz folks were watching it too give it the benefit of the doubt not basing their opinion strictly off the trailer….but word quickly spread the whole series sucked.

It’s just odd that the actors who signed onto this went along with it. Their compensation must have been high for them to agree with it.

And doubled down.

I knew it was gonna be extra bad when one of the actors well even if it's bad!?!

I really think these media outlets need to reach out to the cast and producers and show runners directly.

and let the public know if they ducking responsibility

‘Good Times’ Review: Netflix’s Animated Sequel Improves When It Steps Out From Norman Lear’s Shadow

They just should have called it something else. This show makes The Boondocks look like Inception.

In the same year that X Men 97 and Invincible have lit up the small screen, this is embarrassingly pedestrian. I mean like worse than Tyler Perry bad. I know a white girl that watched her pre screener and said she almost threw up. This is a regular snow bunny white girl that is a Seth Macfarlane fan, voted for Obama twice, has a black ex and said she couldnt get threw three episodes without throwing pillows at the TV.

I’m still in love with this woman. Thought I was over the shit BUT I HAD TO SHOW THESE PICS TO WIFEY. Lol

Honestly, actors take gigs. Especially voice acting gigs. They might have punched through the work on this show over a couple of days and then not thought twice about it until later on. And I'm not completely excusing not figuring out that the content is trash while you do that, but I could see that happening and then the actors basically trying to stay neutral until they saw which way the wind blew.

At any rate, an actor has to be a special brand of brave to bash a show they are a part of while the show is active. That's a clear route to not getting more/as much work in the future. Loyalty matters in Hollywood.

Before they come in the studio to record.

They are given the scripts and there are sit downs with the cast, writers, producers and directors all together in the same room.

They go thru the script together and make whatever changes that need to be made.

And being this is a animated series, the actors had to have been shown large print versions of the characters and sample animation clips showing the characters in motion so they can get a idea on how to do their voices.

They knew what this was about. Like I said, those checks must have been hard to refuse.

Good Times reboot showrunner hits back at criticism over ‘lazy’ Black stereotypes

The backlash began as soon as the first trailer was released, and speaking to The Hollywood Reporter showrunner Ranada Shepard attributed the poor initial reception to the fact that cast members such as JB Smoove, Yvette Nicole Brown and Jay Pharoah had not given interviews to promote or explain the new show.

Hold on here...

”You haven’t seen JB and Yvette and Marsai and Jay Pharoah and Slink Johnson on couches all across America, which typically happens when you’re rolling out a show,” she said.

“There was no framing that the audience had, it was just: Watch this and form an opinion. And they watched and they formed an opinion.

Is she slick dissing???? Her own ACTORS???

And the producers? And Netflix? For not marketing and promoting more? The press run wasn't "enough"

Guess not - cause the show runner just threw her cast under the bus. JB HAS been on a promo tour for the Curb series finale... and doesn't seen to want to talk about it.

And despite that they HAVE tried to defend the show actually she is incorrect there too.

“I was always rooted in [the fact that] I understand if this is jolting. Because what you needed was someone to tell everyone, ‘I know you’re used to the sweet sitcom, but this is not only a reimagination, it’s in a different genre that requires it to be loud and offensive and have hard jokes and inappropriate. So your mind is doing a lot of different things.’”

@blackbull1970

Is she saying our minds aren't sophisticated enough to understand this cartoon?

I was really just playing devil's advocate with this comment, but I'll own this L like a champ, because this comment has been completely demolished by reality.

I never expected a wholesale denial of reality from the creator(s), but here we are.

Nope. You ain't got no L to take bro.

None.

What you said was ACCURATE.

What is happening NOW is the outlier.

I have no idea WTF is happening.

All parties involved at all levels should be ashamed of themselves.

And I actually wish the actors WERE HONEST enough and brave enough to say this was a mistake.

It HAS happened before.

Like I mentioned earlier, when they go on these talk shows, they go over on what to discuss and what not to discuss so there is no “Gotcha” moment.

And with Fallon, Kimmel and Colbert. All 3 of those shows have White hosts, white producers and white writers with a predominantly white studio/tv audience.

When they have a guest promoting something new, they usually show a clip of the movie/show.

Those producers knew if they showed a clip of this series with an all White audience laughing, they would get massive blowback.

All those shows have interns on the staff whose job is too sit there and monitor the internet on what’s viral/trending. They all saw those series was getting negative blowback and reported it too the producers/writers.
