You have to read aftermath books. They talk about Leia using the force while she was pregnant with Kylo.

Nah, its not the same.
Anakin as a boy was force sensitive, but being force sensitive alone wasn't going to make Anakin a skilled fighter and pilot.
He had to be trained to be a Jedi to make the most of his force sensitivity.
We never saw Leia train, we never saw her become a Force user.
Yes, it may be in the books, but to the average viewer, Leia using the Force and supermaning her way back to the ship was some out of left field shit.

Already said she had Force Sensitivity in Original Trilogy, in RotJ actually.
So as a fan of the films, I have to read every side story to to understand what is going on in the movie?
Nah, the onus is not on me as a fan to keep up, it's on the filmmakers to keep audiences, fans and new viewers alike, in a place where they can understand what is happening in the film.
This was lazy screenwriting at best.
As already mentioned in this thread, have a problem, dash some force on it.
Leia blown out to space, dash some force on it.
Rey taking on Snokes personal body guards without training...dash sone force on it.
Luke projecting himself lightyears away to face Ren, dash some force on it.

Prequels were better than this sequel trilogy.
Man the Force shit is getting out of control. They using it to fill holes in bad writing. If you can't figure out how to make this scene work. Just sprinkle a lil "Force" on it and keep it moving. The force supersedes training, discipline and even character now. Rey had no training at all in the first movie and bested Kylo in a light sable duel. She's a expert duelist now without any real training. In the Original Trilogy or Prequels the Force wasn't knowledge dump. Fighting styles and Light Sable training was a acquired still that both Jedi and Sith had to train for years to master. It didn't have shit to do with the Force. The Force enhanced what skills and abilities you had. Astro Projection, GTFOH with that bullshit. They have destroyed the original concept of what the Force was first killing the mystery and spiritual aspects with the whole midi chlorians bullshit. Now with everybody being force sensitive and no training is needed to be a great warrior. On another note too much comedy for the life and death situations going on all around the movie. They taking too many notes from Marvel where no one dies. One more grip, too many woman leads in charge. They have went overboard with the men being bafoons used for comic relief and the women in dresses in charge leading a military operation (that's just fucking ridiculous).
The heck you talking about... Luke didn’t train for years. He freaking used the force to move a light saber in the first 10 minutes of empire after never doing that at all in the first movie. In fact he maybe had 10 minutes of lightsaber training in the A new hope.... with the light game that Obi Wan had. He might have had maybe a day of training on the planet with Yoda in Empire. And Leia has always been force sensitive. In fact the part of about people being sensitive with the force.. is the entire concept of the force. The very first movie and especially Empire... makes it clear that the force runs through every thing. It’s just that some people are born with a higher midichlorian count and are more sensitive to the force.
As for comedy their was comedy throughout the first films and especially during life and death scenes... R2d2, C3po, and Han Solo especially made comedic statements during the most dire scenes. hell the trash compactor scene in the first movie... was played for laughs. ... with C3po whining away believing that they were all dying when they were really cheering to be alive.
I swear it’s like people... have never watched Star Wars with some of these comments.
I know BGOL will hate this. But they should have kept Finn in his coma. he adds nothing to the story. Him and Rose were completely unnecessary.

Star Wars like The Matrix spreads their canon over several different mediums. So it's never said in the movie, but in the books it has been 3 years between when the 1st Death Star destruction and the battle of Hoth.

And I’m about as hardcore of a Star Wars fan as it gets.... watched the original with my mom as a baby and then watched the release before Empire came out as a kid. Some of the comments in here are straight crazy. The only legit complaint that I can agree with is Leia’s ability to pull herself through space with the force... but to say even that comes out of left field is crazy since the original Trilogy outright establishes that she is strong with the force. Not sensitive... Strong with it.
And for those saying that if it not in the films.. it doesn’t count. The books and other properties have always been used to fill in gaps with the film universe.... the problem happened when Disney bought the property and erased most of the book Cannon. But the first and second trilogy were mentioning General’s and battles that you wouldn’t know were in there unless you read the other properties. Hell the Ghost and Chopper from Star Wars Rebels were in Rogue One and you wouldn’t have known about that unless you watched Rebels.

I don't know why- but Rian and Kathy decided to make a darker movie tailored directly to fans that have exposure to SW canon outside of the movies.
every power / ability you've seen in this movie is based on established canon in this universe... including force illusions / astral projecting
Everything about the theories on the force in this movie is straight from Lucas' final attempt at explaining the force...
The force has always been the reason jedi and sith were feared fighters - the stronger the connection with the force the easier they can sense / anticipate the future - they feel what you are going to do before you do it
With that being said:

Rey demonstrated back in her intro that she is a very competent fighter...
Kylo Ren was severely injured by the same bowcaster that was shown multiple times during the film killing stormtroopers etc knocking them back for 10 to 20 feet
example - If you just got shot by a .40 in lets say your knee or your right side of your gut - then proceeded to fight hand to hand... even a 6 y/o with a broom stick will eventually kick your ass

I want to see a one off with the imperial guards. They looked amazing in the movie but I felt a little let down from that fight sequence. It was cool on the surface but KNOWING those guards should be more like Rogue One Vader, it was a let down.
Folks are forgetting how the other older movies also shifted character view points. I liked how Kylos story was the driving factor in this movie and how all the foreshadowing that was said came to pass yet there’s still room for different interpretations.
Man these kats are killing me with the nitpicking... I can’t beleive we watched the same movie. How could anyone watch this move and not see how important Finn is to the Rebels. Because of Finn they had their first victory over the First Order in forever in The Force Awakens and he saved the immediate distruction of their base and other worlds that were in the way of that cannon. Now Finn is one of the last heroes of the rebellion left. How is he not important to the story. Dude is literally the only one able to advise them of any new weapon of mass destruction that the first order brings up.
I just want to point out that in the first trilogy there was no explanation of who the emperor was and how he came to power. He was just a bad guy that was a Sith Lord. You didn’t know how the Jedi order fell. You didn’t know why Obi wan ended up on the planet and until the third movie you didn’t know that basically Luke had committed incest by having feelings for his sister.
I’m not even going to get into how Return of the Jedi is basically the same thing as New Hope with the Death Star being the force again and it’s destruction comes from the exact same problem as the first Death Star. Star Wars has always had lazy writing issues.. you can’t come down hard on this one and then act like the first trilogy didn’t have problems.
People raised the same discussion about Leias use of the force in Return of the Jedi... because people didn’t want to think that she could just have it with there being more to it.

All Star Wars (A New Hope) needed was its opening crawl explaining who (rebels) and what (Empire). Tarkin gives a line about the emperor dissolving the senate. Obi Wan explained to Luke vaguely how the Jedi fell. Done.
That was enough setup.
We got the answers to any questions you brought up in the trilogy.
So even if there was lazy writing, the worked around it in the subsequent films.
Second Death Star was lazy, no doubt, but not as lazy as a third (TFA) and what TLJ gave us in terms of Rey's training and force power, and Leia's superman space flight.
This whole liberal use of the Force shit Disney is pulling is wack as hell, killing the aura of it.
Yes, the Force is strong in the Skywalkers, however Leia never used it, she just felt things through the force (sensitivity).
Not sure why you mentioned it, but I'm a "fanboy" myself, with Vader and stormtroopers helmets, and a glass case full of figures and vehicles...not that it makes a difference in one's viewing experience of a film.
Fanboy shit aside, one should be able to recognize a weak film, regardless of how much plastic shit from their favorite franchise they own.

I still trying to get why people are hamping on Rey’s training .. when really Luke didn’t have any training. Granted he got slightly more then Rey but with what Little he had.. he still fought Vader in Empire.
As for the force powers... they were doing things with the force in the prequels that we hadn’t seen before either. They were jumping around like freaking super human bunnies in the prequel trilogies. And that doesn’t even include the powers shown in the Clone wars series and Rebels... which are Official Canon.
This isn’t like Justice League were the tv, animated, and film universes aren’t the same... Star Wars has always been like this.
At one point that horrible ass Ewok Cartoon was Fucking Cannon.
I just think are pissed that this movie isn’t the film that that wanted ... when it’s actually better that it isn’t. They can literally go anywhere with the final film.
But I will completely agree that Leia extreme use of the force should have been explained more... and likely would have been if Carrie fisher didn’t pass away after production

Also it was generally cool that this movie was a love letter to Carrie Fisher. It’s like their are scenes with her... that were shot as if they knew this was her final film.
Especially that scene where Luke kissed her on the head to say goodbye for the final time.

She was in the movie... but only a video. She is still alive so she can come for the third movie. It would have been hard to put her in this movie.. plus they have to explain how she got Lukes lightsaber.
