Man! That’s some real shit, fam.
What I haven’t seen talked about with this finale when it comes to Franklin is just how much losing damn near everything when you are about to embark on this new life outside the game unleashed this monster.
Teddy deciding to take all his money sent Franklin down a path of no return. He thought he could go to his family for help, but they turned their backs on him. At that point he had two choices, flight or fight. Once he made the decision to fight, it was nothing that could’ve stopped him.
Franklin still had an out. He was such a smart dude that he could've sold his properties then, and rebuilt from there with his family and his freedom. Unfortunately for Franklin, he decided at that point that he couldn’t lose like that. The power he wielded was essentially taken from him in his mind. He couldn’t accept defeat.
Avi said it to him best in the beginning when he told Franklin that his intelligence would be his downfall. His smarts would be his curse. Franklin at that moment didn’t understand, and even in the end he still didn’t understand. As smart as he was, the thought of losing unleashed the monster. The money was just a placeholder for the real monster inside of Franklin.
Franklin always thought he could outsmart everyone in the room. The thought of losing crippled him. Now, he has to do everything in his power to win. His mother, his wife and his best friend all tried to tell him to cut his loses and move on. He had enough to start over but he was blinded by his ambition to win at all cost. To retrieve his power back.
What Avi told him came full circle. His curse was his intelligence.
