SNOWFALL FX discussion thread

I love Snowfall but The Wire had so many more layers and details.

The character development was superb and had so much depth on that show.

I'll go out on a limb and say not one character on Snowfall has the depth of even a small roll player like Bubbles had.
Man hell nah. We not gonna act like the Wire didn’t start rushing a whole bunch of shit in season 5 that didn’t make sense. We also not gonna act like most people(not me) didn’t even fuck with season 2 like that.

I loved the character development but a lot of those dudes didn’t need it and took up unnecessary space. Snowfall is covering the same layers of the game. The streets.... how it actually gets in and what it controls and it covers the layers of where it comes from.

Let's all not forget where "Franklin" may be the mimic of Frank Lucas and may get to the level of shipping directly from overseas on govt planes. And eventually doing heroin. We will see.

Some of his inspiration of the character was from Denzel he said but Franklin is supposed to be a completely made up character.

Yeah and he ain't gonna diss his boy at the same time. ManBoy is a meal ticket for him. A way for him to move his weight. But he won't make him in command of anything. That's not how you'd deal with one of your soldiers. You may demote him (Leon) but he wouldn't give ManBoy power in his org. Think...

He'd be shooting himself in the foot. ManBoy would take him out once he learned his way around. He's just a paycheck to him
You right. I don’t mean placing ManBoy over Leon more like sitting Leon down because he letting emotion getting in the way of the money. ManBoy is probably gonna have to kill his homie... or his homie is gonna kill Leon.

there will be a season 4.

i was concerned about singleton passing, the show losing its way, and cancellation after season 3. but based on the last few ep's...it's the opposite. things are picking up. each ep is pretty tense, good action. hope the ratings reflect that. the wire was appreciated by us, but not the general public (ratings), and the series got shorted on that last season 5 because of it.

we won't know how it compares to the wire until the entire series has it's run. the wire had the advantage of being on hbo - it could be fully raw, no commercials, etc

andre...how is the lapd investigators not going to see this as a homicide? andre was shot from the back/side? - wouldn't they do some basic investigation on what angle the bullet was fired from, etc?

that white cop may eventually see the light, try to expose the whole operation first to the lapd and then to the general public, with bad results. he's the only one who has seen the file so he's going to be a key figure going forward

the daughter mel - she may not have seen the killing, but the cop may tell her that andre committed suicide because he was on suspension and franklin, as a drug dealer, was responsible for that...she was looking lost eyed in the preview for next week's ep as she was saying 'franklin killed my father'...wild card.

anyway, now is the beginning of everything unraveling - it's about 1984-5. those of us who were in la at the time know that this is when the crackheads started getting out of control, crips/bloods/sa's started getting the dough to get access to high powered weapons, and the lapd started going to war with the gangs, led by the paramilitary tip of the spear, darryl gates. it was a war on the streets by the mid 80's. with civilians caught in the middle, and an entire generation ravaged.

great series
Nah the white cop ain’t exposing the operation. You heard what he said to Andre about if he told the type of people that would be after him. He ain’t bout to go after the CIA bruh.

This was the question I wanted an LA nigga to answer, when did the bangers start getting in on the drug trade because I knew that had to come into play at some point.

That white cop is going to fuck Mel (literally)
Pre-"strawberry"
You see that look?!

They're already in on it
what do you think Man-Boy and Stacey were
What do you think Leon is?

Dude, I'm not from LA and I'm not gonna pretend I'm an expert but I'm thinking if these dudes were Crips or Bloods they would be having things that would identify them as such.

You don't have to be from L.A. to know what a gang member looks like.
They literally have fought and died over turf, been setup to be robbed, got ran off of places. This past episode they literally got into a fist fight about who could sell drugs where.
Banging isn't crips and bloods exclusively

Now if you were asking specifically ONLY about crips and bloods cool.

But if you were asking when did bangers get involved in the drug trade. they already are on the show.

Snowfall is more on the lines of Power. Although it's better than Power, there is no show without Franklin just like there is no show without Ghost.

Eventually this will be a challenge for the writers because you have to write unrealistic scenarios so that nothing happens to Franklin. That's why Power got so unbelievable.

The Wire was not dependent on just one character. Anybody could get it at anytime just like in reality. That's partly what separates it from the rest.

This is how all toms and coons should die
I think Andre is misunderstood to a degree. I dont think you can write him off as a typical coon.

He was coming from a place of real concern for his community and he saw being a cop as a way of making his community better.

Real coons dont give a fuck about the community.

Andre was in uncharted territory and didnt quite know how to go about taking on a new threat that was destroying the hood and he ended up compromising some of what he once stood for.

He looked out for Franklin and made a good home for his daughter. He just got over zealous in the wake of a new crack epidemic taking the community by storm.

Won't be hard. With some tweaks and Hollywood embellishments, their just following the Rick Ross story

Like the Wire did with Melvin Williams and others. Difference is with the Wire compared to others were they actually hired the Williams and Bmore gangsters of those times as advisors

We'll see. As long as they can keep it realistic and not go the Power route.

That sequence was brilliant. The cam work was creative with the back and forth. And shit slowly disapearing from her room.

Word they’ll cop from you all day then soon as you leave the spot break in that bitch and steal everything then go sell it to the next nigga for some rock.

I wasnt getting that deep with it. I was more simple as in you feed them, let them wash, give them clothes. And them mother fuckers will still want to fight you over $10 after.

Far as great writing goes since it’s Fx which is better?
Snowfall vs Sons of Anarchy

Sons openly admitted it was a "mans" show. All style and action. No real substance.

She really said I fucked your life and career up it was my idea to do it I told you how I felt so I did it

But let's go off together

The main thing no one mentioned and what Reed was really mad about it her fuckery almost got him killed.

That’s pretty much what he told her too. Lol! He was like, “bitch, I was in a room covered in plastic about to get the Scarface treatment.”

Naaa he wasn't no coon

He was compromised though. He could not balance his new racist cop buddy friends and the people he grew up with. Andre and Mel would have been better off if they moved a while ago. He dead and Mel will be a walking dead shell version of her self. She has no protection and no one to look out for her. She is basically a wounded antelope on the savanna and the lions, leopards, hyenas, and hunting dogs are salivating:smh:. Mel's story will most likely end very tragically. Would not be shocked if they even give her character the package on top of her being a crack head. The reason I'm bringing up the house in virginia angle is because in the mid 80s people were catching that as well and drug users were just as likely to contract it by being recklessly careless.

Honestly Reed is fond of Javi and Franklin
they're actually the closest thing to friends he has.
