Rock Hill officer fired, accused of distributing child sex abuse material
ROCK HILL, S.C. — A Rock Hill police officer has been fired from the department for allegations regarding child sex abuse material.
Daniel Shealy is accused of possessing and distributing child sex abuse material online.
On Thursday, investigators with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force met with Shealy to discuss the investigation into the accusations.

Channel 9′s Almiya White learned Shealy served as a detective at the the Rock Hill Police Department. The police chief said there is no indication that the allegations occurred while Shealy was on duty.
According to our partners at CN2 in Rock Hill, Shealy was a school resource officer at South Pointe High School in 2022.
Shealy began working for RHPD in January 2011, serving on the patrol unit until August 2017. His last assignment began in June in the criminal investigations unit.
According to arrest warrants, on June 1, Shealy shared three separate video clips on Kik Messenger. Each video showed underage children engaging in sexual activity.
The warrant says the children’s ages ranged from ages 5 to 15 years old.

Shealy was immediately suspended by Rock Hill PD and the internal investigation that followed led to his termination on Thursday.
He was released from jail Thursday on a $30,000 bond.
The chief of the Rock Hill Police Department shared the following statement about the case:
“Our community trusts its police department to hold itself to the highest standards of excellence and integrity.
“We are troubled by the details of the allegations against one of our former officers, as we pride ourselves on being trusted public servants.
“These allegations do not represent the Vision, Mission, and Values of our department or the law enforcement community. Based on this information, the officer was terminated from the Rock Hill Police Department effective September 28, 2023.
“Daniel Shealy was hired by the Rock Hill Police Department on January 3, 2011. He served on Patrol until August 7, 2017, when he transferred to being a School Resource Officer at South Pointe High School. His last assignment began on June 5, 2023, in the Criminal Investigations Division.
“We value the trust and support of the Rock Hill community, and I want to reassure you we are committed to protecting and serving our community.”

Florida man's dating app match turns sour after date sets him up to be carjacked: police
TITUSVILLE, Fla. - A Titusville woman was arrested over the weekend for setting up a man she met on a dating app to be carjacked, according to police.
Brionna Eaddy, 24, was booked into the Brevard County jail on an armed carjacking felony charge Saturday after a warrant was issued for her arrest.
Authorities said the incident happened on Sept. 24 at an apartment complex parking lot on Rock Pit Road in Titusville.
According to an arrest warrant, Eaddy and a 35-year-old Orlando man decided to meet in person after communicating over the Tagged dating app over several days.
The two drove off together in his 2013 Mazda CX9 to an unnamed park. The park was closed, however, so they drove back to what the victim thought was Eaddy's home on Rock Pit Road.
During the ride back, the victim said Eaddy was on her phone, sending and receiving multiple text messages. At one point, she also made a phone call to someone, police said.
When they arrived back at Rock Pit Road, they were met by two men – one of which was armed with a gun.
The armed man displayed his gun, ordered the victim out of the SUV and demanded to give him the keys, police said. During that time, Eaddy calmly got out of the sUV and appeared "to just stand around and wait," the warrant stated.
The suspects then told the victim to lie in the grass, and while doing so, the men and Eaddy got into the vehicle and sped off, police said.
The victim called the police to report his car stolen and provided officers with photos of Eaddy that she sent him over text message.
She was later taken into custody on the warrant by the Brevard County Sheriff's Office.
She remains in jail without bond.
FOX 35 News is working to learn whether the other two suspects were arrested.

Court documents showed in May, a woman reported she and a group of friends were invited to Wasek’s family lake house when one friend who works in cybersecurity noticed a charging port with a hidden camera plugged into the wall of their assigned bathroom. After discovering the camera, the group left the residence and reportedly went through its Micro SD Card. While looking through the MSD card, they allegedly found several videos of themselves and other people in bathrooms and bedrooms at the lake house as well as Wasek’s apartment in Dallas.

David Nims remained in the Escambia County Jail on Tuesday following his Friday arrest on eight more video voyeurism charges.
The 37-year-old Calvary Baptist Church youth director was arrested on June 7 after a 14-year-old boy saw a camera under a sink in the youth hallway of the church.
He was released on bond that day. After a search warrant was executed, investigators arrested Nims on June 11 on additional charges.
Investigators say the third arrest stems from that search of his home.
During the search, deputies found one SD card and four micro SD cards in Nims’ pants pocket. The cards contained videos of at least eight people who were filmed without their knowledge while using the church restroom, an arrest report said.
At least three of the videos depicted juveniles in the restroom.
It was not immediately known if Nims has a lawyer to speak on his behalf.
In June, church Pastor Walt Magaha told the newspaper his congregation was “saddened” by the arrest.
“We stand ready as a church to provide care and ministry to anyone or any victims who come forward as we are informed,” he said.

The former Calvary Baptist Church youth director arrested for hiding a camera in the church bathroom to record people and possessing child pornography was sentenced to 50 years in state prison Friday after taking a plea agreement.
David Nims, 40, was charged with 25 counts of child pornography possession and 16 counts of video voyeurism, and he faced up to 515 years in prison before he took a plea deal. He not only recorded adults in the church bathroom, but also two 6-year-olds, a 10-year-old and a 14-year-old.
As part of the agreement, Nims pleaded no contest to 12 of the 25 child porn charges and 15 of the 16 video voyeurism charges, according to court records. In return, the Office of the State Attorney dropped Nims' 13 additional child porn charges and one video voyeurism charge.

Prosecutor Carrie Gilmer told the News Journal that Nims must also serve 30 years on sex offender probation after the end of his prison sentence. Nims was designated a sex offender.
Nims was initially arrested June 7, 2021, and charged with one count of video voyeurism after a 14-year-old boy spotted a camera underneath a sink in the youth hallway of the church at 6824 Pine Forest Road, according to Nims' arrest report.
Nims was arrested for a second time June 11, 2021, and charged with 20 counts of child pornography possession after Escambia County Sheriff’s Office investigators found more than 100 images of child porn in his home while executing a search warrant, according to an arrest report.
At least three of the videos depicted juveniles in the restroom.
That camera appeared to be placed on a shelf, above a toilet in a small room, the report stated.
Time stamps on five of the eight videos were dated March 27 and three were dated March 12.
In the videos with the March 12, 2021, time stamp, an ECSO investigator wrote that "I observed David Nims placing the camera under the sink in the restroom. David Nims' face is clearly visible while he is adjusting the camera under the sink."

According to the probable cause affidavit, Dustin Dixon, a deputy with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department, was contacted by the girl’s mother about images found on a digital tablet.
The court document states that as a result of the forensic download, sexual grooming conversations were observed between Wallace and the girl.
During a forensic interview at Cherish Center in Noblesville, the girl said she had sexual relations with Wallace in the basement of an Anderson church the two attended.
Wallace was interviewed and admitted to the sexual activity taking place. Wallace said he believed the girl was 14-years-old and not aware that she was actually 13-years-old.
The age of consent in Indiana is 16.
The Fishers Police Department Internet Crimes Against Children investigated the images found on the digital tablet and two cellular devices found at Wallace’s residence when a search warrant was served.

A woman in Connecticut allegedly opened fire in the lobby of a police department on Thursday night.
The Bristol Police Department announced on Facebook that Suzanne Laprise of Plainville, Connecticut was taken into police custody after firing multiple rounds into the front lobby desk office window.
According to the department, Laprise, 51, arrived at the scene at approximately 10:35 p.m. when the desk was unoccupied. Laprise fired additional rounds at the desk's bullet-resistant glass after officers attempted to negotiate, police said.

While the bullet-resistant glass prevented any injuries to the officers, the department announced in a separate Facebook post that the lobby was "closed for walk-in complaints to allow for repairs and maintenance."
"BPD wants to recognize the heroic actions of our officers last night," the department added in a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter. "Despite a truly life-threatening incident, they responded with calm, poise, and professionalism, resulting in no loss of life or serious injury to anyone."

Laprise was released from the hospital early Friday morning after receiving an evaluation, police said. She was charged with multiple counts that included Illegal Discharge of Firearm, Illegal carry of firearms under the influence of drug/alcohol, Criminal Use of weapon, Criminal Mischief 1st Degree, Criminal Attempt/Murder with Special Circumstance, and Breach of Peace 2nd Degree.

While the incident currently remains under investigation by the Connecticut State Police Central District Major Crimes Division and the Inspector General’s Office, Laprise was arraigned on Friday.
After being originally held in lieu of $3,000,000 bail, Judge Maureen M. Keegan lowered the amount to $1 million during the arraignment, reports CT Insider. The judge asked Laprise to come up with $300,000 herself to be released, reports CT Insider.
According to The Associated Press, Laprise is scheduled to return to court on Oct. 17. and remains detained. Laprise worked for a state agency that helps developmentally disabled people and retired in 2020, David Napierkowski, Laprise's public defender, told the Associated Press.
"This is an ongoing matter. She’s innocent until proven guilty," Napierkowski, who said Laprise has a son with Down syndrome, told the Associated Press.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Police officers pulled over a 19-year-old recent graduate from Okeechobee High School because the headlight on his truck was out. Then they found handwritten pages detailing plans to kill everyone at his high school.
Henry Horton IV, of Okeechobee, was arrested Thursday by Palm Beach County Sheriff’s detectives after they uncovered his plans for mass killings at multiple locations, according to a probable cause affidavit, discovering that he had done “recon” at two targets in Parkland, including Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
Asked why he would attack Stoneman Douglas, the site of a school massacre that killed 17 and injured 17 in 2018, the affidavit says, Horton replied, “for attention or fame.”
Horton is now charged with written threats to kill or do harm. He was being held Friday in the Palm Beach County jail on $1 million bond, court records show. Should he be released, he will be placed on house arrest with a monitor.
The investigation into Horton began the night of Sept. 19, when Jupiter police officers pulled him over because of the passenger’s side headlight was out on his pickup truck.
Officers asked if he would consent to a search, which he did, the affidavit says.
Officers found handwritten papers with plans to purchase guns and then “kill everyone at OHS” with them, a bong with burnt residue, and three filet knives, according to the affidavit.
Agreeing to speak to the officers without a lawyer, Horton detailed his plans to kill 15 people at his former high school, Okeechobee High, on his 22nd birthday in 2026, including an administrator, then to go on a stabbing spree at a Miami church, according to the affidavit. He said he wanted to be killed by police afterward.
Horton told the officers that he was having several thoughts about mass killings, and that he had admitted himself into a medical facility in Virginia for a mental health evaluation for similar thoughts.
The officers took Horton into custody under Florida’s Baker Act, a provision of Florida law allowing people to be held at a designated institution for up to 72 hours if they are believed to pose a threat to themselves or someone else. He was taken to JFK North Hospital in West Palm Beach for a mental health evaluation.
At the facility, he told a PBSO detective that he had been driving in Palm Beach County when he was stopped because he was on his way to the El Rey church in Miami to do “recon” for the attack he was planning there.
When the detective asked him why, he said he wanted to do something violent because his stepmother had kicked him out of the house. He had written a manifesto, which was in his truck when he was stopped.
Asked if he had done recon anywhere else, Horton told the detective that he had gone to a church in Parkland near Stoneman Douglas High a few weeks ago, according to the affidavit. His truck was spotted in the area on Sept. 11, the affidavit says.
A few weeks before that, he admitted, he had gone to the Parkland high school itself for “recon,” watching people outside on a school day and thinking “hmm, interesting.”
The detective searched his phone, finding notes detailing different mass killing plans and Google searches of “how much is an AK47.” In messages with a friend, Horton also revealed plans to kill his stepmother.
“She kicked me out for telling her my honest thoughts,” he wrote. “Now I suffer in Florida in the middle of nowhere.”

WASHINGTON — A Donald Trump supporter who smashed a window to the Capitol with a tomahawk axe and threw projectiles at officers during the most brutal battle of the Capitol riot was sentenced to seven years in federal prison on Friday.
Shane Jenkins — who refers to himself as "Skullet" due to his shaved head and mullet — was found guilty of nine criminal counts in March, including felony civil disorder; obstruction of an official proceeding; assaulting, resisting or impeding and officer using a dangerous weapon; and destruction of government property.
The federal government had requested more than 19 years in federal prison, which would have been one of the longest sentences given in any Jan. 6 case. The longest sentence so far went to Enrique Tarrio, the former head of the Proud Boys, who received 22 years in federal prison last month after being convicted of seditious conspiracy in May.
Jenkins' attorney called Jan. 6 "one of the saddest episodes in American history" and said there "remain many grifters out there who remain free to continue propagating the 'great lie' that Trump won the election, Donald Trump being among the most prominent."
The government called Jenkins' conduct "egregious" and said he "planned for violent insurrection long before his arrival" in D.C.
His "lack of remorse is extraordinary," and he "thinks that political violence is acceptable," Assistant U.S. Attorney David Perri argued in during the sentencing hearing on Friday.
"What happens if his preferred candidate gets convicted of something?" Perri asked, referencing the four pending criminal cases against former President Donald Trump, including one case unfolding in the same federal courthouse in D.C. where Jenkins was sentenced. "How would he react?"
Perri encouraged the judge not to "roll the dice with this country's democratic future."
Attorney Dennis Boyle said during the hearing that Trump promoted "a legal fiction" that Vice President Mike Pence could overturn the election results, and that people like Jenkins were "particularly susceptible" to Trump's lies and propaganda.
Before his sentencing, Jenkins talked about his troubled childhood and said his life began to come apart when he learned he was adopted. He said he tried destroying himself with drugs and alcohol after he killed his stepdad in a gunfight when he was 20 years old. (Jenkins said he shot his stepfather in self-defense, and was not charged.)
The Justice Department also said that Jenkins took part in an attack on Jan. 6 defendant Taylor Taranto — who was arrested outside of former President Barack Obama's home — on July 10, when a dozen inmates allegedly entered the television room of their pod and assaulted Taranto "because Taranto had been saying derogatory things about Ashli Babitt and her mother." Taranto was ordered held in pretrial detention.
In the 33 months since the Capitol attack, more than 1,100 participants have been arrested, and about 660 have received sentences, including nearly 400 who have received sentences of incarceration.
