A Manatee County, Florida, couple has been arrested for allegedly possessing, transmitting and producing child pornography involving youth between the ages of 10 months and 10 years old.
Nicholas Bassler Jr., 24, and Sierra Campany, 24, have both been charged with capital sexual battery, a crime punishable with a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said its Internet Crimes Against Children unit received multiple cyber tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children on June 5, 2023, regarding child sexual abuse material being transmitted on Facebook.

Once the images were verified to be child exploitation material, the investigation led detectives to a residence on the 5000 block of 23rd Street West in Bradenton, where the images were believed to have been transmitted from.
After further investigation, detectives contacted Bassler and Campany on Sept. 13, which the sheriff’s office said built probable cause for a search warrant at the residence.
When detectives executed the search warrant, a tablet listed in the cyber tip was seized along with several other electronics.
The investigation led detectives to a residence on the 5000 block of 23rd Street West in Bradenton, Fla.
A forensic investigation was conducted on the electronic devices, and according to the sheriff’s office, numerous images and videos of child exploitation, including Bassler and Campany performing sex acts on the children, were found.
Bassler and Campany have allegedly confessed to the crimes, the sheriff’s office added.
Campany was arrested on Sept. 14 for capital sexual battery, while Bassler was arrested the next day on the same charge.
Both suspects face additional charges of possession, transmission and production of child pornography.
Detectives believe there could be additional victims and encourage anyone who suspects their children were in contact with Bassler or Campany to contact the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office Crimes Against Children detectives at 941-747-3011 ext. 2522.
The investigation into the matter is ongoing.

Former Philadelphia police officer Patrick Heron was arrested last year over what CBS News Philadelphia described as “a long list of charges related to unlawful sexual contact with a person less than 13 years of age, photography depicting sex acts with young girls and retaliation and harassment against victims and witnesses.” This week, the same outlet reported he was back in court, with prosecutors alleging that Heron had recorded some 30 sexual assaults in the back of his police cruiser.
The case itself is beyond disturbing and started last September when the retired Philadelphia police officer was arrested after prosecutors said an investigation turned up “disturbing images and threatening messages against the alleged victims.” Due to the nature of the alleged crimes, the district attorney didn’t release many details at the time but asked anyone with more information to come forward as they believed there were more victims than they already knew about.

At the time Heron was arraigned, his bail was reportedly set at $111 million.
As of this week, prosecutors say they have identified a total of 48 victims, 44 of which are still unidentified. Thirty assaults were reportedly recorded in the back of his police car over a span of 13 months and that some of the victims were children he met through his own child. Prosecutors requested that all of the cases filed against Heron be consolidated going forward, which the judge reportedly granted.
With so many victims still unidentified, investigators are asking anyone with more information to come forward.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A former Rochester police officer was arrested Tuesday, accused of forcibly raping a 13-year-old girl.
According to New York State Police, Shawn Jordan, 39, raped the young girl “by forcible compulsion” sometime between April and June of 2022 in the Town of South Bristol.
Jordan was arrested in March on separate charges alleging he exposed himself to a 16-year-old girl in a Facebook video chat. He was arraigned in Rochester and charged with disseminating indecent material to minors and endangering the welfare of a child. The RPD suspended him without pay. He later resigned.
Jordan was taken to the Ontario County Jail on the new charge of felony rape.
Anyone with information related to Jordan is asked to contact the New York State Police at 585-398-4100.

CRAWFORDVILLE, Fla. (WTXL) — A Wakulla County Deputy is off the job following molestation charges. ABC 27 obtained an arrest report detailing why deputies took Kenneth Linwood Malphurs, 32, into custody.
In the report dated Sept. 18, 2023, it states:
"On April 28th, 2021, the Wakulla County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) received a complaint involving a minor...being sexually assaulted by...Kenneth Malphurs (WCSO Student Resource Officer). The report was forwarded to WCSO Criminal Investigations Division (C.I.D.) for further investigation."
The report goes on to say over the course of the investigation, "the victim provided a positive disclosure for sexual abuse at the hands of Kenneth Malphurs." The report goes on to say the alleged victim, "appeared to have normal cognitive functioning for her age group. She was able to articulate the difference between a truthful statement and a lie. She agreed to tell the truth."
ABC 27 reached out to the Wakulla County Sheriff's Office for comment following the release of the report. In a statement emailed to ABC 27, a spokesperson wrote:
"On Monday September 18, 2023 the Wakulla County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division detectives arrested Kenneth Linwood Malphurs, 32 years of age, for Lewd or Lascivious Molestation, Florida Statute 800.04 - (Offender over the age of 18, Victim less than 12 years old).
At the time this investigation was initiated, Kenneth Malphurs was employed by the WCSO Sheriff’s Office in the capacity of a Deputy Sheriff. Kenneth Malphurs was placed on administrative leave in accordance with agency policy. The report was forwarded to detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division where an extensive investigation was completed. Detectives communicated with the Wakulla County State Attorney’s Office throughout the lengthy investigation, ultimately receiving approval of the State Attorney’s Office, and the Circuit Court Judge for an arrest warrant charging Kenneth Malphurs with violating F.S.S. 800.04 - Lewd or Lascivious Molestation (Offender over the age of 18, Victim less than 12 years old). Kenneth Malphurs was transported to the Wakulla County Jail where he is currently being held without bond. As a result of the investigation’s findings Malphurs was subsequently terminated from the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office.
All arrestees are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law and both the criminal investigation remains ongoing. As such WCSO will not offer further comment on this case until it has been adjudicated in the court system."
ABC 27 also reached out to Wakulla County School Superintendent, Robert Pearce. Friday afternoon, the district sent us the following statement:
"The ex-resource officer in question was one of eleven resource officer positions that the Wakulla County School Board contracts for with the Wakulla County Sheriff’s department. He was removed from his position by the Sheriff’s department and replaced with another officer in the spring of 2021. The Wakulla County School District is not involved in this investigation currently. All questions should be forwarded to the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Department."

A married Pennsylvania cop is facing felony strangulation charges after being filmed forcibly arresting his mistress while trying to force her out of his trailer.
Ronald Keith Davis, 37, was arrested on September 21.
He is accused of abusing his authority to forcibly arrest girlfriend Michelle Perfanov in August after a lovers' tiff, and have her committed to a mental hospital in Williamstown, Pennsylvania.
Perfanov was living in his camper van at the time after a four-month romance, but the pair's relationship had disintegrated. Rather than simply break up, Davis obtained a petition to have her involuntarily committed to a mental institution.
On August 21, he was filmed by a colleague arresting her after chasing her down. He sat on her, lay on her and grabbed her by the legs throughout.

Perfanov was taken to the hospital and was held for multiple days before being released.
Doctors found she was not mentally unstable despite her the cop's claims, and that she had only ever threatened suicide to him to get attention.
Ronald Keith Davis, 37, is accused of strangling his girlfriend before having her committed to a mental health facility under false pretenses
Now, it's Davis who is facing charges including false imprisonment, strangulation, recklessly endangering another person and assault.
In text messages he told her: 'You're done. F**k around and find out. Get out of my house now.'
She had told him she was going to drive 'off a cliff', but later told police she was not suicidal, and only said it to 'illicit a reaction'.
Davis was off-duty at the time of the arrest.
He had first gone to the station to obtain the involuntary commitment petition, then told his colleagues that he would take matters into his own hands after they were unable to find Perfanov.
'I'll take care of it myself,' he said, before going off to find her.
Assisted by a 'civilian companion,' he then tracked her to the Pennsylvania State Game Lands in Weiser State Forest and attempted to carry her to his car before she began to fight back.

Video released by the DA's office shows her lying beneath him, streaked with dirt and nearly half his size, almost freeing herself from his grip, before being slammed back down.
She was taken to the hospital and held for five days before being released on August 26.
That is when she told cops how their romance fell apart. She told Davis she wanted to move to a new city to start over, which outraged him.
'Taken in context, the texts revealed her frustration with Trooper Davis and his controlling behavior (and her desire to break off the relationship), not a true desire to harm herself,' the affidavit says.
The criminal complaint accuses Davis of 'knowingly or intentionally impeding the breathing or circulation of the blood of another person by applying pressure to the throat or neck.'
It says he restrained her 'in circumstances exposing the said other person to risk of serious bodily injury' and in doing so, acted in violation of Section 2902(a)(1) of the Pennsylvania Crimes Code, which refers to 'unlawful restraint.'
Davis was charged with felony strangulation, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and official oppression.
He was remanded without bail after an arraignment on September 21.
