A deranged California man accused of beating his wife to death with a concrete block told investigators that a “brutal, powerful” group had infected him with mayonnaise, according to a new report.
Nathaniel Robertson, 46, bashed his 57-year-old wife Lidia Robertson to death in their Bakersfield home early on July 11,local station KGET reported.
Her body was found lying on the floor with “major head trauma,” surrounded by a large pool of blood, with the block lying next to her, according to the report.
Robertson told detectives in a confusing, rambling statement that he bludgeoned his wife to “give her compassion and mercy” as “the alignments were not in place to protect her,” according to new court documents obtained by the station.
He also claimed that he’d been infected with mayonnaise by a group of people he only identified as “they.”
On top of that, he told investigators there was something inside him releasing information about the Revolutionary War, according to the report.
Asked if he used drugs, Robertson told detectives that he used “ice” — a nickname for methamphetamine — to help him breathe, the outlet reported.
He’d also fessed up to ingesting “crystal,” which authorities took to mean crystal meth, the court documents say.
He told authorities that he loved his wife, and called her his best friend.
“I didn’t want it to be a painful thing,” Robertson said, according to the report. “I didn’t want to hit her a bunch of times, I wanted to end it, I didn’t want her suffering.”
Robertson was arrested at Riverview Park nearby where he told deputies he’d been looking around for a place to kill himself.
He has pleaded not guilty to a first-degree murder charge in the case, and is being held on $1 million bail.
Robertson suffered from mental illness and abused drugs — and the couple remained married only for financial reasons, a neighbor told investigators, according to the station.
