And the award for worst impersonation of the year goes to…

A 38-year-old Utah woman is accused of impersonating her daughter, who’s 17 years younger, to try to avoid new criminal charges during a traffic stop over the weekend.

Heather Garcia was busted early Saturday morning in Farmington, a city just north of Salt Lake City, driving without a valid license or a license plate and carrying drugs in her car, according to the Davis County Sheriff’s Office.

In court records obtained by CBS affiliateKUTV, police said she told cops her name was Mercedes and she was born in 1998. It didn’t take long for police to learn through a check of her records that Garcia had given them her daughter’s name and age, according to the report.

Authorities said the mother, who had active warrants for her arrest, also had a white powdery substance and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.

Garcia was charged with providing false personal information to an officer, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended or revoked license and other offenses.

Cheerleader accused of killing newborn, burying her in backyard after prom begins murder trial
Keith BieryGolick
Cincinnati Enquirer

LEBANON, Ohio – The day before her baby died, she went to a Cincinnati Reds game with her boyfriend and parents. They didn’t know she was pregnant.

Brooke “Skylar” Richardson, then 18, was having painful cramps. She didn’t know that might have been the beginning of labor.

The next day, several hours after she buried her child in the backyard, Richardson went to the gym and began documenting her weight loss in pictures. She sent a text to her mom:

“I’m literally speechless with how happy I am,” Richardson said. “My belly is back omg I am never ever ever evertrrr letting it grt like this again your about to see me look freaking better than before omg.”

Richardson, now 20, is charged with aggravated murder and involuntary manslaughter. The former Carlisle High School cheerleader is accused of deliberately killing her newborn baby in 2017 a few days after prom and burying it in her parent’s backyard. Shortly after that, Richardson graduated high school.

She was arrested a few months later.

Her trial began this week, and jurors must decide if Richardson had a stillborn baby or it was something more sinister. If convicted, she could spend the rest of her life in prison.

Less than 24 hours after prosecutors say she killed her baby, Richardson texted her mom again:

“I’m literally so excited for dinner to wear something cute yayy my belly is back now I am takin this opportunity to make it amazing.”

She also texted her boyfriend:

“Last night was like the worst ever. But I feel so much better this morning. I’m happy.”

Warren County Assistant Prosecutor Steve Knippen called it the perfect crime.

Richardson gave birth in the middle of the night and didn’t tell anyone – not even her brother sleeping across the hall. Knippen said Richardson never intended to raise her child.

Her family says Richardson named her baby Annabelle and thinks about her often.

After finding out she was pregnant, Richardson searched “how do I get rid of a baby” on the internet. Her mother had told Richardson her life would be over if she became pregnant, the prosecutor said.

“She was determined to keep her secret,” Knippen said in court on Wednesday. “When she could conceal her daughter no longer, she took her daughter’s life.”

3-year-old boy starved to death:Alabama couple didn't believe in doctors, police say

For two months, Richardson went back to living her picture-perfect life, the prosecutor said. All while her baby decomposed in the backyard.

Annabelle deserved better.

That’s what police told Richardson as she sat in a police interrogation room, her hand held by a detective. Her family had already called police and asked if the child’s remains could be returned to them.

They wanted a proper burial. But before they could do that, police told Richardson, they needed the truth.

At her Carlisle home in 2017, investigators searched for her child’s bones, removing weeds and brushing the ground to reveal more skeletal remains. Authorities placed dozens of bones, including several pieces of the skull, on top of a small body bag.

An angel statue bearing the words “forever in our hearts” marks the spot where investigators dug up the child’s remains.

One investigator testified the remains smelled. Another said the bones were so small it was hard to tell if they were collecting rock or bone. The coroner said authorities found some hair and very small fingernails, but no organs or anything else identifiable.

Pictures of the bones were displayed on a television screen in court on Wednesday afternoon. The photos were part of testimony which began Wednesday morning with the father of Richardson's baby, who said she broke up with him after a month of dating and never told him she was pregnant.

Richardson, 20, looked straight ahead and didn't appear to look at the photos. The day before, she trembled when the judge sat down before jury selection.

Richardson’s life was far from perfect, her attorneys said, even before all of this. They said much of what prosecutors said are “half-truths.”

Defense Attorney Charlie Rittgers said the texts displayed in court were taken out of context. He said Richardson often texted like that.

She’s battled an eating disorder since she was 12, regularly seeing a psychologist and nutritionist because of it. Rittgers showed pictures to the jury of Richardson where she looked rail-thin and pictures where she looked chubby. He said her weight fluctuated up to 40 pounds at a time.

After Richardson lost her baby, her attorney said she cradled the child for hours while bleeding on the ground in the bathroom. She buried Annabelle in the backyard and dragged a 25-pound flower pot to mark the grave.

Richardson could see the pot from her bedroom window.

Her attorney said she began focusing on her fitness and how her body looked because it was the only thing she could control.

“She put a smile on for the outside world and acted like she was happy,” Rittgers told the jury.

The attorney said Richardson planned on telling her family she was pregnant, but she never had a chance. Rittgers said her doctor told her she would deliver a baby within eight to 10 weeks.

She thought she had time to go to prom and graduate high school before she figured out how to tell her mom, who she knew would not take the news well.

She gave birth 11 days later.

Richardson’s trial is expected to last two weeks. Testimony will continue Thursday.

Aaron Carter is on the warpath against his brother Nick, exposing old sexual assault charges against his sibling that were first exclusively reported by RadarOnline.com.

The bitter brothers’ feud erupted this week with Nick, 39, getting a restraining order against Aaron, 31.

Last week, Nick’s younger brother shocked fans on the TV show The Doctors by sharing that he’s been diagnosed with multiple personality disorder, schizophrenia, acute anxiety and manic depression. Aaron revealed he’s taking prescription medications.

Then on Tuesday, September 17, Nick claimed he and Aaron’s twin sister had to take action against Aaron, writing online, “After careful consideration, my sister Angel and I regret that we were required to seek a restraining order against our brother Aaron today.

“In light of Aaron’s increasingly alarming behavior and his recent confession that he harbors thoughts and intentions of killing my pregnant wife and unborn child, we were left with no choice but to take every measure possible to protect ourselves and our family. We love our brother and truly hope he gets the proper treatment he needs before any harm comes to himself or anyone else.”

Nick reportedly was granted a temporary restraining order on Monday, September 16, and it’s in effect until Oct. 16. Whether a permanent restraining order will be put in place will be determined in a future court date.

Aaron blasted back on Tuesday, tweeting, “So my brother just got a restraining order against me. And I was just served lol.”

Later in the day, he tweeted, “Take care. @nickcarter we’re done for life. I haven’t seen him in four years. And I don’t intend.”

Aaron also noted via Twitter, “I am astounded at the accusations being made against me and I do not wish harm to anyone, especially my family. This is obviously a chess game of some short.”

The solo artist then went on a tweetstorm against his Backstreet Boy star brother, claiming that Nick was retaliating against him for “livestreaming” with Melissa Schuman, a former member of the girl band Dream who in 2018 accused Nick of rape. (The LAPD declined to press charges).

Aaron also cited Radar’s previous reporting that found that multiple women have accused Nick of sexual misconduct. Nick has denied any wrongdoing.

While all of the charges against Nick have been dismissed, Aaron’s stunning battle with his brother has exploded on the internet.

Scroll through Radar’s gallery for more on the old claims against Nick and how Aaron has dredged them up all over again.

Woman in smiling mugshot sentenced to 11 years for DUI manslaughter
By FOX 13 News staff

News
FOX 2 Detroit

OCALA, Fla. (FOX 13) - It was the mugshot that made national headlines; a drunk driver smiling for the camera after crashing and killing a Sarasota woman. Thursday, she learned her fate.

Facing a minimum of four years in prison, Judge Steven Rogers sentenced Agenette (Welk) Missett to 11 for the death of 60-year-old Sandra Clarkston.

Clarkston died last May in the hospital in Ocala a few weeks after Missett slammed into her at a stop light, pushing her car into the back of a horse trailer.

Troopers say Missett's blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit.

Clarkston's family still has her smashed up car. They towed it to the courthouse Thursday for Missett’s sentencing.

Missett pleaded no contest to manslaughter then apologized to the family, including Clarkston’s fraternal twin brother, Daniel Clarkston, and Sandra's daughter.

"I am truly, truly sorry and if I could change spots with your mother I would in a heartbeat. I am sorry. I am sorry. I am truly, truly sorry," Missett said before she was sentenced.

In a victim statement, Clarkston’s daughter told the court about the real consequences of Welk’s actions.

"I lost my only remaining parent because of the defendant's selfish and conscious decision to drink and drive," Clarkston’s daughter, Keonna Sciacca said in court.

A day before the sentencing, Clarkston's twin brother, Daniel said he is ready to look toward the future.

"Whatever sentence he imposes on her, I'm OK with," Clarkston said. "I'm not going to be vindictive about it because it's not going to bring her back. I'm fighting for my sister, my twin. She deserves it."

While Thursday’s sentencing brought some closure to the Clarkston family, they say their fight isn't over. They plan to donate the smashed remains of the car hit by Missett to a high school in an effort to warn kids of the dangers of drinking and driving.

The family hopes to meet with Governor DeSantis to talk about tougher DUI laws.
