Re: [[[[ OFFICIAL UFC 141 hype thread ]]]]] ----- Friday, Dec. 30th - Lesnar / Overe

No doubt I have no problem with grappling and as far as the gay shit I don't have that issue so learning that wouldn't be a problem.

I was asking more about the striking, specifically kicking. When I see someone kick another individuals leg all I can think of his how much potential damage can be done to the knees, shins, etc of not only the person receiving the kick but the one delivering it.

You will learn how to throw leg kicks and how to check them.

I actually picked up on that pretty quick in watching MMA even as little as I have. I totally get it I just can only take watching it in moderation. I don't mind wrestling when its only a part of the round and their is action in it, but more often than not it seems it never actually goes anywhere and they end up on the ground for the better part of 5 minutes.

Once you get caught slipping and get put in your first armbar, choke or other submission move, you will look at grappling in a whole new light.

THANK YOU! I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY PERSON WHO SAW THAT SHIT! IS HE SERIOUS??:lol::lol: fanboy-ism at its finest!

outlaw your post couldn't be more on point. if you take someone and train them at one sport and ONE SPORT ONLY, they will be far more superior in that ONE SPORT than someone who dabbles in it from time to time. true, toney got his ass handed to him by randy, but put them gloves on in a squared circle and see what happens. i bet you randy will get his ass MURDERED!

(and to be honest, it would have been cool if toney had worked that into his contract somehow. i step in the octagon fighting under your rules, you step in the ring and fight under mine.)

Fanboy? I already admitted boxing is important.

You saying that Randy would get murdered in a boxing ring means nothing. That's like Brock Lesnar telling Overeem to take it to the wrestling mat since Brock got owned in MMA. Brock would destroy Overeem in wrestling. To be successful in MMA, you simply have to be a better fighter than what it takes to be a successful wrestler, boxer or bjj tournament champion.

i'm a fight fan. i watch everything, k-1, dream, strikeforce, boxing, EVERYTHING. I have friends who are professional fighters, 7th dan black belts in taekwondo, hapkido, boxers, muy thai kick boxers, etc. and they all will tell you the importance of striking! a superior striker will beat a superior grappler more times than not if, and that's a BIG IF, the fight stays on two feet then :itsawrap:. if that boxer gets taken down or his scramble ain't on point, then he's in for a long night. it seems with proper training you could learn to defend a takedown, how to scramble and not give up your back, arm, leg, etc....but years and YEARS of focus on solely throwing hands, placing punches accurately, proper technique and throwing punches CORRECTLY (which a LOT of MMA fighters DO NOT do) can not be taught in a matter of weeks and can not be taught when you are steady being crammed with other things that have to be learned as well.

i respect BOTH sports and imho neither is superior to the other, point blank period.

What are you talking about? When did I ever say that striking WASN'T important? We train our standup(and not just boxing). Striking isn't just boxing. Boxing doesn't account for legs. You see that leg kick that did Brock in? Those fucking knees? How about knees in the clinch? Teeps? Leg kicks? Striking is part of MMA. Boxing is one part of learning striking.

Go grapple and then say you can learn that defense, body control and not how to give up your back so easily. Mastering boxing, grappling and full striking are all difficult. You say IT SEEMS. Go train and then report back.

Most people who show up don't even last a month at the gym. We are talking about making every fucking part of your body a weapon. Your mind has to process all that shit, not just grappling or striking.

I trained boxing first. So please cut the shit. When I got into MMA, it was a rude awakening.

Brock gonna get about 3-4 million for that shit too.LOL.

That nigga gonna destroy JDS

JDS is a one trick pony going up against a world class show horse.

Really? Looks like a regular everyday white chick to me. :smh:

Who wins Bones Jones vs A. Silva

I'm re-watching the diaz-cerrone fight and Diaz was on point tonight. Career performance right here.

Re: [[[[ OFFICIAL UFC 141 hype thread ]]]]] ----- Friday, Dec. 30th - Lesnar / Overe

Man....i did not know dos santos was a boxing trainer. This dude trains mfs in brazil for the olympics. He destroyed my man shane, i should have known he'd win agaist Cain. Brock was talkin' about getting past his next fight to fight him. I think santos would destroy brock.

True ... he hits hard. Love when he STEPS INTO his uppercut. I would never want to be on the receiving end of that type of punch. I've kept an eye out for dude ever since he obliterated Fabricio Werdum a handful of years back. We stepped out of the room for a minute to grab a sub' sandwich and Werdum got blasted.

After being asked, as a very successful man that speaks 3 different languages, what he would say to the people of the small area Junior comes from in Brazil.

" I try in everything I do, and what I would say to them is,when your a positive person and you give your all, good things happen to you. I feel incredible right now. And that small town with 70,000 inhabitants now has a heavyweight Champion from the UFC."

* Ben Henderson flashes JDS a huge, genuine, smile.

Bendo keeps glaring over and beaming a smile at JDS, he's really happy for him and wants the feeling that JDS has right now. Two cool cats.

Still can't believe Cerrone just bum rushed Diaz and didn't defend a damn punch or even try some g-n-p or sub when he got him down...

Diaz str8 clowned him at the beginning of the 3rd...

Re: [[[[ OFFICIAL UFC 141 hype thread ]]]]] ----- Friday, Dec. 30th - Lesnar / Overe

Nate has had an interesting 2011.

Looked terrible in late-April at 170lbs against Rory MacDonald.

Looked excellent against Takanori Gomi months back at 155lbs.

Looked excellent again against Donald Cerrone last night at 155lbs.

He's had his ups and downs over the years at 155lbs, but should definitely stick at 155 now if he can continue making the weight smoothly in the years to come as he gets older. Props to him and his brother Nick. I enjoyed the scrap, and I'm a fan of both Cerrone and Diaz. Diaz took Cerrone right out of his game yesterday. Prior to that Cerrone had been on a 6-fight win streak dating back to the WEC in 2010, and hadn't lost in 2011 in the UFC and had serious momentum coming in, and Nate had been coming off that stellar performance against Gomi as noted above.

Nate Diaz sets CompuStrike striking record for three round MMA fight in win over Donald Cerrone at UFC 141

Nate Diaz lands one of many right hands on Donald Cerrone's face at UFC 141 in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 30, 2011, which set a CompuStrike record for a three round fight with 82 percent landed strikes. Photo by Esther Lin for MMA Fighting.

Nate Diaz put on quite possibly the best performance of his career last night (Dec. 30, 2011) at UFC 141: Lesnar vs. Overeem, defeating Donald Cerrone via unanimous decision after three rounds thanks to relentless, laser-like striking.

How precise? Accurate enough to set a CompuStrike record for a three round mixed martial arts (MMA) fight.

Diaz landed an astounding 82 percent of his strikes, connecting on 258 out of 314 punches. After plenty of pre-fight trash talk from both competitors, the fight, unsurprisingly, never hit the ground for the entire 15 minutes. On the contrary, the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt under Cesar Gracie -- who displayed improved boxing in his submission victory over Takanori Gomi at UFC 135 -- took his striking to a whole new level in his dominant UFC 141 win over "Cowboy."

He can likely thank striking coach Richard Perez, who is responsible for sharpening Nate's, along with the rest of the Cesar Gracie fight team's boxing skills, which also includes Nick Diaz, Gilbert Melendez and Jake Shields. Often criticized for not possessing knockout power, the Diaz brothers have proved once again that their "peppering" style of striking is more than enough to get the job done.

By contrast, Cerrone -- who is one of the better strikers in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight division and who possesses a kickboxing record of 28-0-1 -- only landed 33 percent of his strikes as he landed only 66 out of 200 attempted strikes.

That's how they roll in the 209, son. Recognize.

Not quite sure about Batista just yet. As the discussion threads we had on dude were back in the middle part of 2010 or so, give or take a few months. Haven't heard much about him getting fully signed. Don't know what his level of training is like by now, etc.

Lashley was destroyed...not a believer when it comes to pro wrestlers trying to fight MMA....

MMA is a whole different animal...you just can't turn into a fighter overnight....Bautista (sp) is well over 35 yrs old...:smh:

Brock look like he wanted his check & get the fuck back to WWE...

Re: [[[[ OFFICIAL UFC 141 hype thread ]]]]] ----- Friday, Dec. 30th - Lesnar / Overe

P',

Yeah ... Batista's frame has been through alot. Brock never properly trained MMA, nor did he ever become comfortable getting hit. He was lucky to come back against Shane Carwin after the major adrenaline dump in July 2010. Lactic acidosis? Perhaps. But we all saw what happened when VELASQUEZ and OVEREEM each took it to him in October 2010 and December 2011. Also, the 2 bouts of diverticulitis did a number on him physically, mentally, and emotionally. You sort of have an awakening of sorts (especially at his age as he's only in his 30s). I was talking to my aunt and she mentioned that's what her husband had a few years ago and he nearly died (he was 68yo at the time). Damn near killed him, and Brock's only half his age. But yeah ... getting into the game late and training like he did (Brock) ... he needed to train with fellow brutes who would put leather on him and rough him up. Condition him physically and mentally. Just like other guys are doing in the 125 to 265 weight classes, day-in ... day-out. Also gotta take into account Overeem is widely considered the best HW of our generation. K-1 / DREAM / STRIKEFORCE / UFC ... and that fight last Friday ... he had 10 times the competition experience Brock had. Although Brock had the collegiate wrestling game on lock back in the day, and then tried his hand at sports entertainment. Brock was hesistant even on the single leg attempt ... he knew he couldn't stand and trade with dude ... and he was scared even shooting in for the double leg. I was under the impression he was going to try and do what he did to Heath Herring a few years ago. Throw one heavy shot and then charge like a bull and tackle Overeem. That shit never happened though ... he threw shots from a distance ... clipped Overeem once in an exchange, then ate some knees and a shin to the gut, and then crumpled up. Fight was half as long as the one against Cain back in Oct. 2010 in Cali'.:lol:

Re: [[[[ OFFICIAL UFC 141 hype thread ]]]]] ----- Friday, Dec. 30th - Lesnar / Overe

Brock never comitting to that single leg really bothered me...that was his only shot I'm still wondering why he didn't push to take Reem down....he was no threat standing...then he made the worst decision fighting off the cage against a K1 champ :smh:

the best thing Brock did was bring in more fans...I'm not mad at that...but damn Rogan "Baddest Man On The Planet"?

too much Hype IMO...

will Lashley fight again?

Yeah, he didn't commit at all. But shit, look how strong Overeem showed himself to be. He manhandled Brock -- and Brock is strong as shit.

I wonder if he wins out in 2012 will drug testing become an issue. Dude skipped out of the states when one of his tests was due.

Interesting reading about Overeem/NSAC (Nevada State Athletic Commission) of late.

before the fight there was alot of speculation about his drug test...:dunno:...Remm better address these rumors...

either way Brock came to that fight not to win but survive

JDS will beat Reem IMO...he (reem) looks so slow with all that bulk...another reason Brock should have pushed the pace I believe dude will gas early if you make him work...

Agreed. His best bet was to have GIVEN HIS ALL on that attempt at a single leg. Surprisingly it was pretty soft (as if he was concerned about getting stifled, or having Overeem attempt a choke) ... and Overeem got out of it pretty easily. The Brock of old would have bullied for that one (realizing it was his best chance) and kept at it, or at least had A' off balance momentarily. That wasn't the case at all.
