Being the number 1 or 2 draw over an extended period of time is brilliant marketing.
C'mon now?
I would never compare him to Kimbo. Kimbo had more heart. FUCK BROCK!
I feel you bruh...the HW's aren't necessary in both sports I agree...
what I meant HW fights in either sport gets the most attention...ppl love to see big men with tremendous power throwing punches, kicks whatever at eachother...
its the most beloved division in all of combat sports...
what I'm saying is you get big turn out when big guys come to fight...May & Pac have the attention but the world yearns for a competitive HW division...
MMA has to be my favorite sport right now, simply because you have to wait too damn long and search for a good boxing match and big fights are few and far in between...but if boxing was ever going to die, it would have done it by now. It will never die. MMA will always have the flaw of wrestling and grappling turning off a lot of people, not to mention it can be a far bloodier sport and a lot of people don't have the stomach for it.
Right?
both sports can co exist...Boxers now helping MMA...
MMA fighters respect Boxers...hell Boxing been around longer than Television!
it deserves respect...I love Martial Arts...if it wasn't for Traditional Martial Arts I wouldn't be a die hard MMA fan...
I respect all combat sports...I watch everything from K1 to Dream to Strikeforce to Boxing...

I see your point...I just disagree with the yearning part...I think the world would love it, die hard boxing fans only crave that... in order for casual fans to tune in to a PPV..and bring big money the HW champ has to be a great fighter with a personality (Ali) or a destructive force with a wild personality (Tyson) When the biggest fighters in the world are the likes of Manny, Delahoya, Leonard, etc people don't tune in wishing they were bigger.
Exactly. Yeah, they're both combat sports, but when it comes down to it, it's apples and oranges.
and I love me both some apples and oranges...

ppl do tune in Mayweather did 1.5 PPV buys for that Ortiz fight thats the bigger than any UFC event in 2011...no hate...Boxing is like MMA its a niche sport...
Boxing will never die too much money...too much history...I don't know why someone would want Boxing to die thats just foolish...
only insecure fans would want to see that...
the Diaz Bros. train with Andre Ward a current world class boxer...they are both great sports...
My bad, that one went over your head. Do you disagree with Brock being the biggest draw, next to GSP?

Bob Arum and other boxing cats are still going in on MMA, so what are you talking about?
Cats on this very board still think grappling is "gay".
Why the hell would a young person take up boxing when they can take up MMA? MMA is superior. Boxing is now where you go when you can't cut it in MMA. (Boxing is also an important part of MMA so you can still see it watching a MMA fight.)
I know the numbers that boxing does...my point was that the HW division won't do numbers unless things changes. I said boxing will never die.
These^^^^^^
Anyone have a link for it (props on the torrent but I don't mess with them)?
I missed it being out the house but it seems like something I'd like to see.
Furthermore, people don't know what they have the stomach for.

You right about that. I can't remember another era where heavyweight title fights weren't even televised in the US.
Keep an eye out for Seth Mitchell tho...
Arum speaks for all boxing fans....
are you insecure MMA fan bruh....?
you like MMA who gives a fuck about what others think...?
why does it matter?

I am not disagreeing on that part but Kimbo having more heart than Lesnar, eh![]()

Uhhh...what do you mean by that. I try to get people to watch MMA..as soon as a couple of chicks I know see the blood on the mat from the previous match they are grossed out. Shit I know a dude that loves boxing more than anybody on this board and probably in the history of the world..a real boxing fan, geek,..and he actually told me MMA is too brutal. Trust me..knees to the face and broken bones like Mir just gave to Nog are too much for some.
I see what you're thinking..but one reason that is many years away is that MMA is still an expensive ass sport and to get the dudes from the ghetto will be a tougher task. That shit ain't gonna just pop up in the hood because there is no money in the hood. Jones has the color to attract attention, but if you hear him talk it will be a turn off to certain types. Blacks may dominate, but it will be more of the same like Jones. College wrestlers coming into MMA. Most boxers are not the college type if you know the history of it. I train MMA, black dudes have been showing up since Jones got popular, but they come and they go once they get in there and get rode on and choked by a big musty white dude for two hours. It is still catching on in the black community. Old heads were fighting it hard. Still are. But now we have Bones Jones.![]()

Furthermore, people don't know what they have the stomach for. A true FIGHT fan wants to see the best fighters. There was a time when the heavyweight boxer was the toughest man on the planet. We now know the cat in MMA is.
Grappling has been cut down to bring in the casual fan, but it still is a big part.
Just wait until more mma gyms pop up in the hood. No doubt in the street the mma cat is more than likely going to stomp the boxing cat -- all other things being equal. Cats will be in a boxing gym like"what's a double leg? What's sprawling? What's a guard? Whats a teep?"
Shit will catch on. Black people will dominate. Since Americans will be dominating, it will get bigger than boxing.
and the UFC is gonna have a lot of trouble with their HW div still..people see a poster or commercial with those two big animals tonight..and tune in and see that awkward shit...and basically a couple of knees and Brock looks like it was his first fight, that kind of shit will be hard to sell in the future especially on the heels of JDS one punch in a few seconds over Cain on free t.v. There big matches are just not delivering.
I know the numbers that boxing does...my point was that the HW division won't do numbers unless things changes. I said boxing will never die.
Insecure? Not at all. I want to see us dominate the superior art -- which uses BOXING. Our athletes have been limiting themselves with boxing.
Just as the NBA and NFL has taken from the boxing talent pool, MMA will too. I love boxing. I still train it.
You can't deny that boxing talent in the heavier divisions is being taken by the NBA and NFL. I see the same thing happening with MMA(in lighter divisions). It's not hate. Why train solely at a boxing gym when I can learn boxing and other arts down the street. If Jones stays dominant, it will change the fucking game.....
I've had the opposite experience. I go out to BW3 and the place is packed. I have been with chicks who have never seen a MMA fight and when they see it they are like...." Where they do that at?"
MMA is still new. Folks that will truly turn the tide are still in grade school. Watching boxing to me is like watching a wrestling match or a BJJ match. It just seems so limited.
The thing is to be good at MMA, you have to train boxing. You don't train other arts in boxing.
Basically, if you are 14-years-old and have to choose which gym to train at, you would be a damn fool to concentrate on boxing alone. You are going to the gym where you can work on your boxing, then work on your ground game and other striking(legs).
It's not that the sports can't coexist, but I think boxing will be filled with cats who couldn't cut it in an MMA gym.
