Official Man Of Steel reviews! Love it or Hate it! Discuss it here! MERGED! SPOILERS

Re: Official Man Of Steel reviews! Love it or Hate it! Discuss it here! MERGED! SPOI

In the grand scheme of the film, does it matter? Nope. But would it matter to someone that feels that the story lacked depth and concentrated on CGI to the extent of the movie drifting into generic blockbuster territory....yep.

You in filmmaking though, you should know that viewers pull different things from their movie viewing experience.
That would add absolutely NO DEPTH to the movie. If that is considered depth to you then.......

Re: Official Man Of Steel reviews! Love it or Hate it! Discuss it here! MERGED! SPOI

It's not.

It really isn't.

Not every little thing needs to be spelled the fuck out for viewers man. They don't need to go into that detail. It's a kryptonian ship. That's enough. How he got his clothes doesn't add nor take away from the film- it's just a thing. A detail that's small.

And this is my field, filmmaking. You're splitting hairs.

Let me ask you. Does showing the exact manner in which he got his suit - showing how its created and taking the time to explain why add ANYTHING to the film, except take away one thing to bitch about?

Man I'm with you. We are doing a 2 hour flick about a flying alien race that speaks english and has hyper-drive. I'm not gonna harp on the suit based on a comic book.

The movie was dope. I liked the somewhat reality, conflicted superman. I tried to explain to my girl that this is how the action scenes in the avengers should have been with hulk. Hulk is a fucking beast - buildings should be falling!!

Just waiting on them to bring on Doomsday or Darkseid...and I'm good

Maybe not, I think it's an example of the script writing effort that was sacrificed in favor of the explosions and repetitive action.

I get that superman is supposed to be the Boy Scout, but people need to think about the fact that the comics have been around forever and superman has dealt with many 'demons'.

In this flick, he doesn't know who he is or where he's from. That's why he's so withdrawn. The reality is, that'd fuck with anyone's head. It isn't until he learns who he is that he's able to open up, because now he has a purpose.

He displays far more personality after this point, and even more after Zod is defeated.

No. Because it adds NOTHING AT ALL to the story. NOTHING.

That's a great choice. He plays a great villain.

I like this pick

Strong was perfect as Sinestro.
WB just needs to get the Green Lantern right for the JL movie

No one is arguing that it's impossible for Kryptonian clothes to last for centuries.

But lets entertain your comment though, if that's the case, how would a suit, that I'll assume was made specifically for Kal and his mission of bridging the peoples of Earth and Krypton, exist on a scout ship that arrives 20,000 prior to Kal getting there?( whose arrival is predicated upon Krypton's circumstantial demise)

The details for the suit were encoded on the key Clark had. The key and the AI instructed the ship to create the suit from materials stored for the occupants of the ship.

We have 3D printing now....why not an advanced civilization.

This is why it's useless harping on shit like this. Certain things shouldn't have to be explained, because there's any number of reasons why things happen that simply aren't worth the time showing. Not to mention, it costs money. Why waste money shooting a scene for this dude to feel better about the suit?

Re: Official Man Of Steel reviews! Love it or Hate it! Discuss it here! MERGED! SPOI

Did you actually pay attention to any dialogue in the movie or are you one of the idiots that see explosions and buildings crumbling so you crown it "best movie eva"? You seem hard of understanding so let me put it this way:

The ship was on Earth 20,000 years before present day.
- I think we can both agree that there was no Superman suit onboard for that period, right?

You: "Jor-El command key blah blah blah had the instructions for the drone bullshit"

What I take issue with is that even with the slightly plausible notion that the suit was made by the protective drone that we see guarding the ship when Clark finds it.......Oops but Clark destroyed it when it attacked Lois....okay, well fuck that notion.

My point being, without Jor-El's consciousness on the ship, the suit doesn't get made.

The sequence of Clark inserts key, ship flys away, he meets Jor-El, *opens door #1* "Here's your suit" seemed too convenient to me. The movie failed in explaining how that suit could materialize on a 20,000 year old ship by way of Jor-El's "hacking" into the ship.

Fuck, I'm so tired of discussing this, I'll even accept Kryptonian sewing machine chamber at this point.

Since you need every little detail spelled out for you...

HOW DOES THE SUPERMAN SUIT GET MADE?????

NEXT, READ THE EXCERPT BELOW... FROM THE SUPERMAN WIKI…

http://superman.wikia.com/wiki/Jor-El
http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Jor-El_(New_Earth)

Shortly before the destruction of Krypton, Jor-El and his wife Lara gave birth to a son named Kal-El. Desperate to save his son's life, he created a star-drive ship designed to take him to another world - a world where he would be safe and grow up to be strong and happy.

Jor-El explored the galaxy in search of a suitable planet and sent out dozens of probes designed to collect various data. His research revealed that Kryptonians living in a yellow-star system developed enhanced physical characteristics including super-strength, speed and agility. One of Jor-El's probes landed on the planet Earth where it was discovered by motorist Thomas Wayne, Batman's father. When Thomas touched the probe, his consciousness was instantly transported to Krypton where he met Jor-El. Although their meeting was brief, Jor-El developed a fondness and respect for Thomas Wayne. He decided that Earth would be the perfect planet for his son to be raised.

NOW COMBINE (OR CHERRY PICK FROM) ALL THESE EXPLANATIONS I JUST PRESENTED… AND THERE's YOUR ANSWER.

AS YOU CAN SEE….

- JOR-EL BUILT PROBES TO SEARCH THE GALAXY. (According to DC cannon)

- JOR-EL ALSO MOST LIKELY BUILT THOSE COLONIZING SPACESHIPS THAT ARRIVE 20,000 YEARS BEFORE CLARK KENT WAS BORN. (In the scene when he was telling Kal-El the History of Krypton, in the MoS movie)

- IN THE MOVIE, JOR-EL DOES NOT IMPLICITLY SAY THAT HE BUILT THE COLONIZING SHIPS… BUT IF YOU KNOW A LITTLE ABOUT THE DC HISTORY OF JOR-EL..... IT's NOT THAT HARD TO FIGURE OUT. (i.e. THE SCREENWRITERS USED A LITTLE BIT OF 'POETIC LICENSE' HERE. THEY KNEW JOR-EL SENT PROBES, SO THEY REWROTE THAT PART OF THE STORYLINE A BIT)

- IN THE MOVIE, THAT IS EXACTLY WHY JOR-EL's CONSCIOUSNESS CAN CONTROL 20,000 YEAR OLD KRYPTONIAN TECHNOLOGY.... BECAUSE HE PROBABLY INVENTED IT.

- NOW IF THIS NIGGA JOR-EL CAN BUILD KRYPTONIAN 'HYPER-DRIVES…. PLUS DOORWAY's TO THE 'PHANTOM ZONE'… AND SEND DRONES TO THE FARTHEST CORNERS OF THE UNIVERSE.... YOU BEST BELIEVE HE CAN COMMAND A FUCKIN DRONE TO CREATE SUPERMAN's SUIT. :hmm:

Whether you agree with this explanation or not.... is on YOU.
At least I tried to explain it.

Now let's see if YOU try to answer the questions the others asked you.

I bet you do not. :smh:

For the reason you just stated I don't believe that that suit was made specifically for Kal, as Jor-El pointed out earlier, those scout ships were sent out thousands of years prior, from the story he told about the "S" meaning "Hope" and the fact that he had on the same thing under his cloak it seems that that suit was meant for ANYONE that came from Krypton to the planet the scout ship was on (Earth, in this case), remember as well that Zod mentioned that his crew had visited other "outposts" before they found Earth, because Kal inadvertently turned on an emergency beacon upon disturbing the ship.

I agree with you, it felt "rushed", we knew much more about the Kryptonians than anyone from Earth, and as someone pointed out earlier, I was wondering why Kal just didn't take off with Zod in a headlock when they were in Grand Central Station, and while I understood Jonathan Kent's thinking, in practice it COMPLETELY fails, IF "Clark" was supposed to be better than us all, then he was supposed to save those kids, and he was supposed to save the dog, Jonathan SHOULDN'T have been the one who went back to the car for the dog to begin with!!!

Edit: I just read the reply above mine, in a movie you shouldn't have to worry about or know "cannon" to know any part of a storyline before seeing it, THAT'S WHAT THE MOVIE IS SUPPOSED TO DO!!!

I would agree with you.. if there wasn't 75+ years of comic book history + plus 8 other Superman movies previously made + plus at least 5 TV Shows that already tackled this subject matter beforehand. Feel me?

Now, if it was a movie with a brand NEW character.... like a 'Jason Bourne'... then I would wholeheartedly agree.

But we are talking about Superman.
There's just too many YEARS worth of info floating around.

You would have to be 'living under a rock' to NOT know anything at all about Superman, prior to seeing this movie.

That's WHY it's not necessary to explain every single detail about him, for the folks who are stuck on 'nitpicking'.

No matter how many 'fine details' are covered while re-telling an old story... you will never satisfy everyone.

Just my opinion.

Re: Official Man Of Steel reviews! Love it or Hate it! Discuss it here! MERGED! SPOI

The Writers already explained why they had him kill Zod how his morals will play into the next flick.
I thought so! People thought they would be ushering in a new era of a Superman that doesn't give a fuck, but in actuality Superman will be dealing with PTSD for killing Zod! He's done it before. When he killed 3 Kryptonians with Kryptonite that shit fucked with him for a long time
Superman-Kills-Kryptonians-22-John-Byrne.jpg

Superman experiences overwhelming feelings of guilt and regret after killing three Kryptonian criminals.

Not knowing what else to do, Superman leaves Earth and travels through space where he hopes he can find a place where he might never harm anyone again.

During his self-imposed exile, Superman meets new alien races, including a slave-based empire and its leader Mongul who imprisons Superman. As Superman fights for his life in the gladiatorial games, he comes in contact with an old priest who had spent time on Krypton long before it was destroyed. Superman learns more about his planet's past and, in the process, decides that its time to return to Earth.

He killed a kryptonian who was thisclose to killing humans.

So his whole no killing thing can very much be intact. He killed someone because he had no choice. Fighting Zod is like a man fighting another man.

But killing humans? A race of people he can kill with absolutely no effort? Also he can be bothered by killing Zod to the point where he absolutely resists killing anyone or anything.

So while Luthor can do something that can kill a million people, he still is a man and Superman wont kill him.
:lol::lol:

I was telling a friend of mine the exact same thing! He was getting all hyped over this "new killing Superman" he said. I said Superman has killed before. He killed Doomsday. Yeah I know due to Doomsday ability he can come back from the dead, but when Superman was fighting him and when he threw his last punch his intent was to KILL, and it did at the time.

Now folks expect him to body more folks than Wolverine and the Punisher combined! Zod pushed him to that point. He didn't want to kill Zod. But at that moment he finally realized that he simply had no other choice. Zod was never going to stop until he destroyed everything - he even admitted as much -Superman had to kill him.

Superman was raised by Ma and Pa Kent. He ain't about that life! That yell he let out after he snapped Zod's neck let you know that was some deep down, hurts me to my soul stuff he was dealing with at the moment.

He wouldn't kill Luthor. He still respects Earth laws. Plus don't think that the government and other governments around the world aren't trying to come up with contingency plans for him. It's one thing for two aliens to beat down and kill each other, but if the alien kills a human then it's on!

Mark Strong is a career villain, and I mean that in the utmost respect! Dude loves to play villains:

"John Carter"-Matai Shang
"Green Lantern"-Sinestro
"Sherlock Holmes"-Lord Blackwood
"Kick Ass"-Frank D'Amico
"Sunshine"-Pinbacker

What is that BP, jumping from a shitty movie to make some real money? I think Chris Evans was the best as the Human Torch on Fantastic Four, but he went to be top billing in his own feature film with "Captain America" and that got him into "The Avengers". Mark Strong was excellent as Sinestro, but since that series might be at an end, why not jump on "Man of Steel" as Luthor and be 2nd billing in DC's/WB's 2nd largest franchise behind Batman? It might even get him into "Justice League". At least Strong has the advantage of being seen in full makeup on "Green Lantern". Chris Evans was mostly normal on "Fantastic Four", so that did confuse folks that were saying "Didn't I see Captain America in the Fantastic Four film"?

If ya'll co-signing him them I'm cool with it.But, I personally don't want someone that's one dimensional. Who every plays Lex Luthor needs to have range and can seamlessly display that range.

I'm assuming he can play menacing? But, can he show Charm? Wit? Intellect? Levity?

Daniel Day Lewis should play Lex Luthor. Much better actor than Strong.

El Pirate that's a HUGE longshot that Daniel Day would play Luthor. But if you look back at my thread earlier about Luthor I said he should be ruthless like a modern day "Daniel Plainview" ( a nod to his character in "There Will Be Blood").

I don't think it that much of a longshot. As long as Nolan is connected, the script and character is well written, DDL can play Luthor.

Daniel Plainview + Bill The Butcher = Lex Luthor.

Re: Official Man Of Steel reviews! Love it or Hate it! Discuss it here! MERGED! SPOI

Indeed! What did you think of my Lex Luther assessment for MoS 2?

http://www.bgol.us/board/showpost.php?p=13141257&postcount=705
You and I are seeing eye to eye on Luthor for MOS 2! Like I said, Luthor sees Superman as the villain. He sees Superman as the being that humans can't ever reach because he isn't human. Before Superman, Luthor was the "American Dream".

My idea for "MOS 2" is that Luthor is so smart that his plan against Superman wouldn't be realized until the very end!
Look at Justice League Unlimited's episode of "Clash" when Superman fought Captain Marvel. It wasn't until the very end that Bruce (Batman) told Superman that he was duped by Luthor.

This nigga ronmill is just trolling at this point. He's not answering any questions, just lobbing grenades.

How exactly am I trolling? Anyone who takes issue with MOS and ups the older films are trolls now?!?!

How about this and we can finally put this issue to bed. MOS is average at best. I was not impressed.

-The writing was shallow. No type of character development at all. Goyer and Snyder failed to give the character of Superman any weight.

-The CGI was overblown and incoherent. Shaky cam with sped-up characters and zoom crashes simultaneously makes no sense whatsoever. Watching those buildings crumble and fall got old after awhile.

-What is traditionally emotional moments in the mythology (donning of the suit, Jonathan dying) fell flat IMO.

-Speaking of Jonathan Kent, a fucking dog? Really? Not a human being, but a FUCKING DOG?

Maybe my expectations were too high because of what we've seen from Nolan in the genre. This movie disappointed the hell out of me. It felt like I was watching Superman being done by Michael Bay. All flash, no substance.

Shit, maybe our movie watching sensibilities differ, but when I say this movie lacks gravitas that the first film had, I mean it. You got chills when you saw Clark change into Supes to save Lois. Krypton felt like a distant, advanced civilization (not some Avatar knockoff). Jonathan's last words to Clark before he died added and emotional punch to the event. I won't go on but you get it.....

Understood, but other movies manage to do this, poetic license is one thing, plot holes are another.

I come from the POV that a movie should be escapist fare, so I'm NOT looking for minute details as long as I enjoy myself and what I see on-screen is plausible, I liked "MOS" and I like Amy Adams, but unlike the original "Superman", there was NOTHING on-screen that showed us that Kal had any sort of feelings for Lois, I half expected him to pull back and tell her "It's NOT that type of party, Ma'am!" & fly off, lol!!!

I wouldn't have minded 10-15 more minutes showcasing the people @ the Daily Planet, I LOVED that they went more in-depth with the Kryptonians, & you're right, you can NEVER please everyone!
