When I say fire you for anything I mean if you make a mistake and the press gets hold of it the new chief and mayor will get rid of you and you have to fight to get your job back. No really shady shit out of the normal. I don't really remember much about the entrance test but for the psychological test I recently heard a lot of brothers were failing and just accepting it without questioning why. To most blacks this is a job but for the whites this is a legacy. Many have had fathers, grandfathers and even higher and they don't want you to have it. On the psych test you will be given over 1000 questions and most are just repetitive.
Answer all your questions the same way. They will ask the same question 50 different ways and if you say no I have never smoked to question 7 and on question 232 you say yes I have tried smoking a cigarette before they will question you on that.
My Job at the PAPD is like that, their written psych is a lil over 1000 questions but you take an oral psych as well and they question you on some of the answer you gave, if you can't articulate why you answered a certain way you go to another oral psych, that is your protest now if you answer better you move on to a third psych thus having a 50/50 chance of getting the job.
The 1 oral without a scheduled 2nd is good. If you are scheduled for a 2nd oral but not for a third thats bad.
So its 1 good, 2 bad 3, 50/50. I say this because the PAPD use to be like the fire department, some old legacy shit and you needed a major hook up to get on this job. Now that shit stopped, so no matter what family members you got in here they can't do shit if you don't get pass the psych and usually the psych knock a lot of folk out of the running.
They don't know why, a lot of officers coming from other departments say "well I have been an officer for x amount of years and I still failed the psych"
Well there is a couple of reasons for that.
1. On your background booklet you have to start who you know that works for the agency and their position or affiliation. A lot of them have some sort of affiliation with PAPD through somebody they know working there so Port Authority look at that as that applicant having the advantage than someone who is does not have any affiliation.
2. Them being current officers and thinking the psych is a breeze, they think this because with the interviewer ask them scenarios the first thing out of their mouths are their police experience which is a big no no because the psychologist doesn't have any police experience they want you to answer from a common sense prospective.
Current cops always invoking their police experience like that gives them the edge when it doesn't. This is why a good 95% of them get knocked out of the process and trust papd is a had job to get onto we only have 1600 officers in total top pay 90k with this new contract. So you do the math.
A lot of applicants with no prior police experience are making the cut, too many current officers come from different agencies with bad habits that are hard to break.
This is why the NYFD is starting to adopt the papd's type of psych's because I am starting to see a lot of brothers on that job when just 5 to 10 yrs ago it was very rare to see a brotha in a station house.
