:::Official BGOL Firefighter Thread:::

u cats stay gettin cheese out there...but yall are way busy well i dont kno its probably the same tempo

how much did u start off as a paramedic and how did u obtain your license?

my starting salary as a ff/pm was roughly 80gs ..i became a paramedic before i applied because this old school cat put me up on game in told me its only 20 % fires now and 80% ems and medics are what they are looking for. If you wanted to become a medic while on the job theyll send you with the next class and thatll be your job for the next 6-7 months say bye to the station life..probably of the most difficult times of my life because i hate the classrooms

thinking about gettin my paramedic license but on the real emt intermediate was hard as shyt...i really cant do all those math calcuations on the fly and

i really dont understand none of that heart rhythm shyt and doin needle sticks

im good wit package and treating for life threats but as far as doin all that doctor shyt on the fly i cant do it

so what you do when you have to do it?

I want to be a firefighter/Paramedic...but I'm horrible in math....

and the thought of giving someone a thoracotomy
just makes me :puke::smh:

and im a good test taker and i floored with the test

i know alot of guys that go on to gettin there medic license

sooner or later they are goin to make that shyt required

u look for the cheese or just tryin to get in the system

chesapeaka va and va beach start off at 35k with a quick 1 yr increase

nah...i'm just trying to get on...

i'm applying to a dept that starts their firefighters at 37k...and another one that was 32k

I don't care for the money...I mean I don't want to be poor...but the money is really not important...i just want to get a badge and serve....

AK...thats a bit much for me....Los Angeles maybe...LA (city) is really hiring cats like crazy....

their exams are constantly open.....

Toronto is cool too....I live in NYC right now...

Southpaw get at me....

yea they're not jokin with this ems shit they're in the process of turning all of our engines and trucks into assessment units...a lot of guys are losing their spots because of not havin that p license

since you didn't follow them when drinking where you look upon like a rat?

that much corruption...what have they done to clean it up...

Naw....during the 80s,I let it be known that I did not drink, even tho I did.In some houses the white guys had their own little hideaway...and things were strictly divided. Not that I wanted to drink with them...I knew if something happened...shit would fall on me.

As a FFOPI remember those guys taking the truck out...throwing the stick, the big ladder...to a guy's 3rd floor window, waking him up to bring his drunk ass to work.Think they would have done that for me???

As I said,I was the only black man on the truck at that time...with the two previous brothers being fired before I got there.

And I wanted the job.....
See,firefighting in Boston, since day one was the white man's club.He did not want to share it...that's why in Boston you had brothers on the job,cousins...fathers and sons,generations...plotting to keep that shit in the family and away from up.

In the mid-70s,the courts ruled that the department had to reflect the population.Boston was 35% black...so the department meant had to be also.

Now,my one of my old houses...when I first went there,there were 3 or 4 of us.Today,out of 40 guys...at least 25 are black.
So it's much easier now....

Later on in the 90s,I was on a group with the pot-smokers....I did inhale, when I was not the driver or the roof man.

As for what's being done about the shit in Boston...as I said the FBI is now in on this,so those guys who have went off in the last few years with a phony injury...they ought to be sweating.

As for the drinking and drugs....it's a contract year for them,so random testing is gonna be fought for.

speaking on the drinking thing...
How would young brotherman poet answer the engineer was drinking right before a engine response got call out on an emergency???

i test in one city and give them my answer and ended up getting into it with one of the panel members...basically i was like im turning his ass in and the guy i got into it with was a engineer but to make a story short i got offered the position but i declined and told the chief that if has drunks driving for him then i cant be part of a department with low standards...

Yeah...alcoholism is as much a part of the job as ladders and axes.
But...for many they are functioning alcoholics.
The old joke was..."I never knew that he drank, until I saw him sober".

There were many devils on the job...but...I will say, without some of the white guys who taught me,and looked out for me early on...I would not have made it.
In turn...matter of fact,I had a visit at my home a couple of weeks ago from a guy I 'broke in'.We joked about some young brothers he's breaking in...
I had to remind him how dumb he once was...

But that's what it's all about...having someone to lean on,whoever they are...

question how much you scored on the exam...1st time?....how long did it take for you to get accepted into the academy...?

heres something funny i scored a 90 and i was still 105 not bad out of the 1500 who took it...but the process started as soon as i received my test scores basically all and all it took me about 6 months before everything was done and i was filling out tax papers and getting my uniforms to begin training....

edit: noticed you said you smoked herb before.....put it in your blue book if your signed up for d.c. it shows what kind of character you have tell them weather it was peer pressure or so on and so fourth also if you have a record some of that stuff is just water under the bridge if explained correctly...trust me its a few guy's in the fire house who i know first had have records....i mean the blue book is you on paper your telling these people about yourself before you even meet them....show them you have character and you do think with morals and values and most importantly about your fellow man.....

damn 6 monthes....with a 90....I need to be onpoint....why so fast...that is usually unheard of in many cities...

because i was at the top of the pile i think i skipped a few months tho might have been about 8 tops i don't think it was a whole year.....try and score very high on your written exam man use scratch paper and check your work read and re read use all that test time.
