I have been thinking about doing the firefighter thing for a few months now, but the application processes are deterring me.
CPATs that you have to pay for, and 49 interviews, and months and months of waiting, all for a salary that is comparable or lower to cops in most cities (and gettin on a PD is easier)

Plus I'm in New Orleans, and they start out at 19k a year, where NOPD starts at 43k.

Id travel to other cities to test, though. ESP LAFD, since thats where I'm from.

yeah the wait can be crazy...but during ya wait just get in shape...take more test...if you are willing to travel do it...

shit i'm thinking about Los Angeles and toronto...both start at 50k....

yeah soome dept's pay real shitty.......I seen some that start around 28k....

damn in NO you have to pay for your CPAT...

any city its easier to be a cop...in BMORE you start at 44k...no college credits needed....the ppl hate you and what kind of dept just take any average joe and give him a gun and a badge...

no hate to cops....but you never here FF's leaving the dept to become something else...you work only 3-4 days if that....

You Are Either A Ff For Fdny Or Paramedic For Fdny/ems.

Other Services Have Ff/medic And Usually That Is An Upgrade With More Money.

I was looking thru some old pictures,and found this one of me in drill school doing the Pompier ladder.
A Pompier ladder as you can see is very thin...with a hook at the end of it.
They made us use this to climb six stories.

It works like this,you hook it into the floor above you,then straddle yourself in the window,and lift it to the floor above you...and continue,finally at the 6th floor you lock in and lean back.

This was done with no net or safety harness...

I assume it was done to test your upper body,fear of heights and your balls...

Everytime i see a pompier ladder (our musuem/training academy) im like THANK GOD we dont have to use thoese anymore. Also Years and years ago we had a big fire downtown and somehow they took like a 24' extention ladder to the top of a 75' arial ladder, somehow balanced it on the rungs and were able to save about 6 more people.

Like my dad used to say, He remembers when there were wooden ladders and steel men, now its steel ladders and wooden men.

Either private industry or the Feds with DHS, DOD, or DOE my first 3 targets. I submitted my resumes for several positions over $100,000 apparently from what I'm hearing I've got a good shot at a couple but I'm competing with internal candidates so we'll see what happens.

I don't believe so...as most trucks don't carry them.In fact the only time I ever heard of one being used was many years ago.I believe a New York jake used one to reach someone on a floor where the stick couldn't reach.

In Boston the only use for them is to test your balls in drill school.

Honestly i dont know, but i do know they were on the Ladder trucks, so they probably used them the same way we use extenstion ladders. Ill ask my old timer tommorow when i go to work.
