If the Americans beat England, they will a chance to go forward, if they do not, it will be over. They will not beat Algeria and Slovenia one after the other...

I would be surprised to see them do well this year. First, we always have a problem scoring goals because we are very week in the middle. We arent any stronger this year in the midfield. HOWEVER, we suffered some key losses that will affect our offensive abilities even more... we just wont score enough goals... also, we have defenders who still really arent healthy.

Gonna be hard for a team that really isnt that talented AND struggling with injuries

sorry last post here for a while but i cant tell you how happy i am that africa is hosting the world cup. it makes me proud to see it even if it is south africa its still on the continent. my co workers (white) always say negative things and wondered about it (travelig to africa) if the stadiums would be up in time etc. i had no doubt about it africa is more than capable of holding an event on this large of a scale and do it well without any incident. im proud to be african american and even prouder that my ancestors are from the great continent of africa.
those who arent attending this year's world cup for silly reasons ( i know of at least 3 ppl who wanted to go but because it is in africa they aren't) good riddance africa doesnt need you and you're just missing out. hope you enjoy the view from home

listen. its about athletes. america isnt the top in soccer because the athletes don't want to play soccer. our best athletes dominate the world, they just choose to play baseball basketball and football. think about some of the athletic capabilities some of these guys have, the coordination and the strength speed power etc. now imagine instead of putting their natural abilities since birth to use in one of the 3 sports they put it into soccer what kind of monsters would we have running for team usa now?
you see the only reason people are even optimistic is because team usa has some color on the squad. some kids finally filtered through and got on the squad.

imagine if john wall, a.i., shaq (as a goal keeper), lebron, kobe, adrian peterson, randy moss, chris johnson, reves cromartie (as defenders) etc given their freakish natural abilities devoted their lives to playing soccer instead of their respective sports, how good would they be?

Fuck outta here. Just look at Joze Altidore or whatever his name is.. flops at clubs like WIGAN!!!! speed, strangth dont mean shit. it helps, but u need TECHNIQUE to master the art of football. not be 7'1+. :hmm:

IFS, BUTS, MAYBES,

just stfu with all the excuses, u dont think other countries have different sports as well. u have enough resources to get a good team out there and pick 23 out of a few 10s million male 16-39 year olds. USA are not good at Football. accept it. I dont hear the aussies talking about, soccer is out 5th most popular sport.. only from USA.

no, they don't. no sport matters as much as soccer does to the rest of the world period. american sports that we love live and die by only matter to us. soccer is the sport of the entire globe to deny this is to just be silly. done with you

We do have more sports that most countries. For instance, in Brazil, men play football and that is it. A very small part of the population may play volleyball and even a smaller amount basketball as it is getting more popular here with a few brasilian players playing in the NBA. However, the best athletes here in Brasil and most of South America play football.

The best athletes in the U.S. tend to play basketball and american football and then are sparsed between other sports like baseball, hockey, etc.

The reality of the matter is that soccer is not a desirable sport for our most talented young athletes because is lacks status in the U.S. Kids dont grow up wanting to be soccer players in the U.S.

One day you may have a young barry sanders or deion sanders pick up soccer early instead of football... but I still think we are a couple of decades away from that in the U.S.

The reality of the matter is that our best athletes dont choose soccer and there are very few countries that have as many professional sports as the U.S... so it IS a legitimate argument.

Doesnt change the fact that we are not good in football... but there are definitely some other factors contributing to it...

finally some sense.
instead of arguing with emotions and hate for america just look at the facts that's all im saying. our best athletes chose basketball and football. if they had chosen soccer from the young age like they chose those other sports, who knows how great we'd be
we arent though and thats a fact

case in point. if we wouldve lost this past olympics with the talent assembled we would still be reeling from it and wouldnt forget it until the next olympics. if we lose the world cup, we go eh well least they made it and move on.

country x if you lose the world cup, that's it for your hopes and dreams for 4 years
doesnt mean that much to us and in turn doesnt mean anything to our greatest athletes

they grow up here dreaming of catching or throwing the winning touchdown in the super bowl or hitting the fade away jumper with 1 second left to win the nba championship
not kicking the winning goal

Our American sports dont even matter as much as soccer does in other countries. These mofos down here shoot off fireworks during regular games. My neighborhood sounds like a warzone when Sao Paulo and Corinthians play...the entire city shuts down...just for a regular game...

You can get beat to death wearing the wrong team jersey after a game here...mofos are almost ready to disown family members for being fans of rival teams  there was even a movie down here made about that shit....

We like our sports... people LOVE soccer... they live it.

Cosign. We can't dominate world football until we have the same AAU setup that finds talent and develops it that we have for basketball et al. When I was in HS I knew people on the Olympic developmental team and I was shocked by their lack of ability/physical talent. Though we have made progress,(didn't Dempsey grow up in a trailer in Texas) it still seems that we focus too much on developing white, suburban talent. I always think that some of the great HS and college option quarterbacks would have been beasts on the pitch. Look at how awkward/unimpressive physically Dirk Kuyt is and then imagine an Iverson type on a pitch.
The ny times actually ran a great article on the academy systems in Europe today:

Cosign again. haha. I think its because the teams represent more than just sports. They represent politics, religion et al. Look at clubs like Madrid, Bilbao, Barcelona, Rangers, Celtic, Roma, Lazio et al. When you watch highlights from Chelsea/Barca and see Celtic fans wildly celebrating with the Catalans in stamford bridge, you see how little sport has to do with it.

yep the story behind that was figo. figo started that whole bullshit. i think it was in the champions league he got one of the holland players send off for a foul that that he faked.

that whole game was a revenge match. the dutch came in to kick some ass and portugal was like fuck that you ant a piece of this ,aight.

fans around here make appointments to kick each others ass. just because of a ballgame. soccer is life here

Re: >>> OFFICIAL WORLD CUP THREAD <<< ...Discuss....

I did not see the first half... what did Eto'o get a red card for? If politics have entered Ghanaian football, we are fucked also.

i was watching the ghana match when i changed the channel i heard he was sent off. i heard the foul wasnt even that serious:smh:

In the sport of football, in which people try and send their best people, Jozy Altadore will find people who will run as fast if not faster, who handle ball far much better, who have more guile and knowledge of tactics. He will discover that in being a king in the land of the blind means nothing.

Shaq maybe 7'1, other countries have 7 footer as well. Good goal keeping is moe about reflexed than it is about size. Some of the best goal keepers are small, as is Casillas of Real Madrid, as was Jorge Campos of Mexico...

Quit imagining that you have physical advantages, because you do not...

:smh:

I forgot how much bias there was in favour of South Korea back in 2002. Nzinga you are still banging on about 1966 and England beating Germany. What is your view on this?

Embedding disabled. You have to watch this guys

I do not see the problem... Europeans cheat against others all the time..and get away with it. Furthermore, it is difficulty to say with objectivity that Korea were rough if only one side of the story is available..

With his overall speed, quickness, and endurance :eek:

There would be people just as fast if not faster. This is the world's sport, and every country puts fort its best players. Furthermore, he would have to have skill, since speed without skill is useless..

You are what you are.. You can cry all you want, but you more than 300 million people, and more than 2x the money of the next richest country... What we are seeing is what we are seeing.

Great videos PinoleroNicoya85

Good to see KG appreciating Chelsea too

These adds must be for Americans because out there in the rest of the world, no one knows any of these people.
