He can't do that during an impeachment trial. All of his executive powers pretty much get neutered. That's the argument for an impeachment trial vs congressional investigations (without impeachment).
The GOP controlled Senate will just try to provide cover, etc. They're not going to convict even if the evidence supports it because they know Trump will burn it all down.
Impeachment forces all the evidence out in the open. Like I said, while he's being impeached, he can't even pardon people.

Literally, things like pardon powers are suspended. He can't do it. There is a process that has to take place for pardons and the process can't be initiated during impeachment.
What if he tells that person I will pardon you after the Senate finds me not guilty?
Oh you can literally ignore a subpoena. You're just saying that you're willing to deal with the courts or you're daring Congress to use the sergeant of arms + hold you in contempt.
But literally, you can't pardon while under impeachment.
Ignoring subpoenas is daring DEMs in Congress to escalate and it's a stall tactic to tie things up in court. The same doesn't imply to pardons and other executive powers while going through impeachment.

I think he'll try to bend the law regardless, but there is a different dynamic with those situations.
at the same time, we're dealing with a person with clear autocratic tendencies so in a sense I agree with you.... he has zero regard for the "law"

We're definitely in uncharted territory here. Trump already has his sycophants ready to ignore subpoenas and generally prepared to be as uncooperative as possible. Meanwhile Dems are basically reduced to hall monitor status demanding compliance with laws and norms from those ready to buck both.
I understand this outlook but it doesn't seem to meet the present day challenge. Who is this mythical audience Dems are concerned with? Trump is burning everything down and she's talking about the optics of being 'seen to have a foregone conclusion'. Meanwhile the optics of weak, impotent Dems issuing hard deadlines only to be casually rebuffed (then extending the deadlines lol) is playing out in realtime. Only one side seems to realize it's at war.

Dems have a messaging problem (and lack the 24/7 network of conservative propaganda Republicans have painstakingly curated). There's no ambiguity in the law allowing Congress to subpoena these records... infact the law allowing it was created exactly for this situation and if Dems had any competence at communication they'd be hammering talking points that allude to eerie similarity of the Harden administration's self dealing/corruption and Trump's own. Making a statement that applying the law may be "unrealistic" is exactly the kind of weak shit we were talking about

Pelosi was right to say that she can't say she's for impeachment before the report was released. However, as soon as that shit came out, it should have been non-stop from the Democrats. The more they try to take their time, the more your average dumb cac can pretend that all of this is normal and just the democrats "routing against Trump"

What's fucked up is that Obama did that shit! I always said that was one of the worst things he fucking did... he replied to try to put it to rest but all he did was empower Trump. Media pressure had Obama doing something he absolutely did not need to do yet Trump is ignoring Congress as if the Consitution means nothing.
