How can she be great when the people who say she is refuseSade success is built upon the great music.
Sade the vocalist is cool.
This woman who is not a musician has more range and versatility in her
voice than Sade Adu who sings in an even monotone. If she was not half
white, black America would not worship her. That is the truth

How can she be great when the people who say she is refuse
to hear of anyone else. We are not blind, naive, hypocritical,
ignorant of or indifferent to the skin colour politics of black
America. There have been African women who were superior
musicians and singers to Sade Adu, but did not find favour
because they did not fit a certain physical profile
She needs to drop 20.
What can I say? Show business is show business![]()
..........Aaaaaaaaaaaaah I do not care about white people; cacs willNo real disagreement.
Black America doesn't control any entertainment industry. White folks prefer their black entertainers with a large portion of white-likeness.
From Lena Horne to Drake.
From Dorothy Dandridge to Halle Berry.
Black folks are just along for the ride.
This woman who is not a musician has more range and versatility in her
voice than Sade Adu who sings in an even monotone. If she was not half
white, black America would not worship her. That is the truth
I could say Sade needs to have a booty, but is that in her caucasian genes?
I respect your attempt to rationalise this... but what show is this?
If it is about stagecraft, Sade who stands in one place on the stage
renders her vocals is no show man? Or is the show all about watching
and loving the woman because she has caucasian physical attributes..
MJ30 has superior stagecraft, a vastly better band, a superior voice
to Sade, but I do not hear "them" singing her praises
Talk to me when you get some self respect and stop using the word "Nigg*r"Shut up nigga
Is it possible that those who are not half-white never received theNo doubt Sade is not a great singer but she wrote great music and it fit her voice and she had a killer backup band. She put in hard work. Didn't just come outta nowhere. Been in the business 30 years. Sure, the looks play into it. Isn't all music visual these days. Do you see any ugly singers out there?
Let's see who out there can hang for 30 years.
Even in Nigeria, they play Kin music in this day and age;terrible post
then you post music with awful production
thanks for the laugh
i'll stick with fela kuti, tony allen if I want some african music
As compared to what? Sade? Sade cannot sing, cannot dance, and hasThese songs are boring to me
Yeah right, whatever. Unfortunately I have lived in America more than 20 years at this pointMe liking Sade's music has shit to do with how she looks. She's not even a sex symbol to me.
I just like her music and feel her voice matches her melancholy music very well.
If Sade was not half-white, none of you would be talking about herHello BGOL
I have been a fan of Sade for 33 years....
Now I do not agree with the Op's original comment.
Ok when Sade hit the seen I was a kid around 9... However she was not accepted by the black community at first.
Also the discrimination in our the black community goes both ways. (not saying its equal but it exist.)
Sade was referred to a white or white ish... Also her band Sweet Back was questioned because they were and have white members.
I remembered the early videos not being accepted by most in the black community as well.
When I state most in our the black community I support this with the fact she had no airplay on predominately black radio stations.
as well as video soul, early on....
Sade fell into a Jazz category in the States...
fans of a certain age will remember this. When the Stronger then pride dropped she began to pick up speed with the masses.
When Love Deluxe dropped it was full blown and considered a little bit along side on Anita Baker type soul singers with respect.
Also the concerts picked up with a more black attendance.
Now music is relative, Sade is not a voice alone. She (Sade) has a presence a sex appeal and a certain appeal to individuals with the production of the type of music She and Sweet Back produce.
I here your point of view and empathize with your perspective but based on the comment I assume you were not present in the early eighties or were not into her that much to notice this dynamic... ( I may be wrong to assume)
However she was even labelled again and white ish and we as a majority did not hear her on main stream RnB radio in rotation... (when you did you were like ok nice... premise I'm east coast...
When I was in college Love deluxe dropped and my room mate and I were bumping it strong in the dorm in a HSBC ( and I hit alote of HSBCs during this time and it was constant)many of my brothers friends we just getting up on her.
Side note early in Prince's career he endured the same type of objective... In fact during the early eighties if you were a B Boy you wasn't rockin Prince you would get dissed... (lived it) He was heavier with a older crowd and Rick James had us heavy and Prince was accepted more with a white community and grew.
I digress
Also I just remember a reason she may have not been in circulation on RnB stations Sade was classified as Jazz... (or smooth Jazz)
Now at this time early 90's Smooth Jazz was very popular and this assisted in her transition. At this time the early 90's there were smooth Jazz stations in most cities. in the early 00's the powers that be got ride of them and replaced them with more of there stations and talk radio grew.
In short race was a part but more of a henderance for her Sade early on with us. Now current day it may be reveres, however we all respect her presence and the Aura she exudes if you understand. There is a certain honestly she brings and brought forth that others weren't doing at the time,
Also her music was and is a little mature and the target audience was older.
Now what I am saying its not always apples to apples to compare artist real artist based on looks skin tone and body shape...
my longest post in 20 years... But I had to share
I'm not here to offend other citizens but I kick my volume way past Ten... (no pun intended)
My territory is rough! (LL)
Cheers!
I am specifically talking about Sade... If you want to contest percussionNzinga, a lot of the music you post doesn't thump in the speakers or have great production. As a fan of the style it comes across much better live. That being said, are you drunk outta your gourd on palm wine again? Sade is half African and has timeless music. Fall the fuck back. Oh and she does have a nice slim ass, not flat at all.
........If the merit of the music was the issue, there are a lot moreSade's success has less to do with the way she looks and sings but more to do the creative quality of her band. They are the true talent. Anyone can stand out front and sing those songs. Its the music that was written and produced that made me stand up and take notice.

Translation= she looks white, we are going to identify with her; even ifSade/Pride has made some great records. End of story. Nobody is comparing her vocals to Aretha Franklin. She came along with a sound that was somewhat inique for the mid 80's and it took...then they put out more good shit. Didnt hurt a bit that she looked good, but I could have a good time just listening to the instrumentals so her looks have never been the reason I listen.
