HBO's True Detective Premiers tonight

my theory

The wife sold the kids to Hoyt, the cousin middle manned

Watts and the white recruit and secure the kids and Watts is their caretaker

Some of the gov and cops are in on it too

I think Doff is in on it too like Harris was

The wife got “killed” during her investigation

Julie and the reporter aren’t the same person
Had to have been Roland. Then again, Hoyt had absolute influence in that town too.

I’m thinkin Roland too! Did y’all peep the look Roland made when Harris said I’ll tell u everything if y’all let me make it out of here ... but also Harris was talkin like he was on a call or radio like the convo was bein monitored

is season 2 worth watching ? I skipped that one

That transition was awesome from him on the street with Roland to literally alone on a dark road. Really creative stuff to give a visual language to what it must be like to have dementia.

This show since its beginning has been really cinematic. The direction and cinematography is as good as any film you'll see. This ain't the show to watch on a phone or tablet. There's so much subtle craftsmanship put into this thing that adds to the storytelling.

That little moody, pounding score when Hays and Roland were stalking Harrison's car in the dead of night, the way that shit was panning across my surround speakers. Holy shit.

I might have been in the minority but I really liked Season 2. Mainly it was cool seeing Vince Vaughn return to dramatic acting, and Colin Farrell... but to be honest you aren't missing a whole lot. It doesn't tie into any of the other season's universe and this Season (3) shits all over it it's so good.

I hate this will be the last episode next Sunday. :smh:

This is why I said this show has got enough material to sustain a much longer season and not have those lulls most other shows do. These first 8 eps. done felt like a setup to a first act. We still haven't made heads or tails of the missing girl, what happened to Hays's wife, and we're just now getting to (Hoyt) Michael Rooker who isn't just an actor you bring in to do a cameo.

And now they've definitively tied it to the season 1 story.

There's at least another 4-5 episodes worth of stuff they could play out.

and the crazy part is that roland and hays didn't know how deep this goes.
That's because of surface detecting. Surface detecting allows for evidence to point out a particular perpetrator, but similar to the bloodhounds on the trail in The Green Mile wanting to go in the direction of the real killer, you have evidence pointing the way you want to look so you look there.

the problem is, with surface detecting, you know that something's wrong but lack the evidence to support more than that.

Good detectives can't stand holes in the evidence or theories, and Hays would have been better had the boy's book bag and the girls shirt been planted at the Indians home.

Had they not tried to plant the boys bookbag in the blast area, Hays could have been able to sleep with that theory, but once he knew the evidence was tampered with in order to intentionally point out a particular suspect, he couldn't stop sniffing.

Roland and Hayes didn't know how deep the track ran because it was like a dog with a scent. Once the scent the dog is following goes to the river you lose track of it. They were missing so many pieces of the puzzle they had no idea until the cousin popped up

And I know there's some shit I ain't supposed to laughing at but when he and Old Roland were interviewing the lady from the Hoyt plant and girl walks up and Hays thinks it's his daughter :roflmao:

Girl: "Can I go swimming?"

Hays: "Becca, you all packed?"

Roland: "naw, Wayne, look at me."

Hays: "I'm driving her to school later.":lol:

And then towards the end when his old ass tried to swing that bat at the passing car, I was bout on the floor. :roflmao2:

Mahershala Ali is putting on a masters class. He even got the little hunched over bowlegged walk for Old Wayne down. Even Stephen Dorff, the way he got his old ass up off the ground after snapping a pic of the license plate was on point. Somebody already said a few posts back but this is the best duo on tv.

Yeah, I can't wait until I get home. Me and the lady are going to watch it again on the 75". You are exactly right. You can't watch this on a phone or a tablet. You need the full experience

So we’re not going to get to find out what happened to his wife, or why he and the daughter have not been close?
