man im having no regrets at all
just got my dock too

sellin my ipod touch - im gonna use my nano for working out/in the yard still

this bluetooth dock shit is tight
fyi- Dock Bluetooth Issues

Some people have complained about losing the pairing of the phone to the dock when the phone is removed from the dock. This will happen every time you set the phone directly in the dock when bluetooth was previously off or even on an unpaired to the dock. I created a shortcut to the bluetooth settings on a page I've dedicated to system stuff- the right most page. Before I dock my phone I pair it to the dock - that way if I want to take it out of the dock to do something music will still be playing.

There is no choppy reception whatsoever with this dock. The audio quality from decent but non-audiophile speakers and high quality lossy audio files is superb. I've had other bluetooth headsets that would get choppy playback with the device and headset being only 2ft away from each other. Not the case here. I can be 20 feet away and still get the same quality sound. I max out at 35ft and 2 walls before distortion sets in. I will post some pics later. Very clean and conservatively designed device.

Man I really have to say that Google has beat Apple at its own game. The design of the N1 and the dock are simple and beautiful. The phone itself design wise is something like what you'd expect from Apple. The tech is beyond iphone/ipod touch levels. Its as easy to configure and use but offers more for powerusers(nerds).

Maybe I should just start blogging about this shit instead of turnin this thread into a blog

Im using the case it comes with and a screen protector until I can get a case that does this phone justice. I aint spendin 20-30 bucks for a case from seidio that covers the bottom ports on the phone. I need something dock compatible that doesnt make it look like shit. Google has to have more accessories in the pipeline.

MAKK!!!!

You made me just order one!!!

Are these all free apps & how do I go about installing apps on the SD card? Do I need to root my N1 to do this or is there an easier method now?

no way yet you can install from the sd card go to settings then applications then allow applications. i know if u root u can download the auto cache cleaner rather than going thru each app and clearing the cache yourself. i got a droid so i dunno the n1 root method. google for it i know it was done even before the phone was released.

yeah the apps should be free

EDIT: Beautiful n Klaxxon arent free u can google for them tho or hit the droidappz link a couple pages back n get it free.

So the apps will install to the SD card as it is now? If so then what would be the main purpose of me rooting it?

they will install the cache's to the sd but the app will install to the phone.

u can install from the sd for apps u get from the net.

the apps2sd update isnt ready yet so for now no saving to sd just install from sd

rooting just lets u remove stuff n tweak your phone if u want its not needed really

Damn there are so many pages to look through in this thread. Can someone give me a condensed list of must have apps to start off my Android experience?

Follow Agent Creed's instruction on apk files and all that.

You do no how once, u download apk files online, u know how to put them on your phone and install right?

Mak I went to the mall today to look for some accessories for my Nexus and they ain't have shyt, but big azz case that isn't even made for the Nexus. So i'm gonna be ordering from that site you posted. Also what's the deal with that dock thing, it has bluetooth, how does it work?

Also Cincity I went to greenbriar today that store in the middle of the mall a to z. They ain't have shyt for my Nexus, but they have plenty of stuff for the G1, you asked about cheap bluetooths, well they have 1 for $20, it's small also, it claims to have 7hrs talk time, Bluedio model n76, I went to get another hook for my other samsung bluetooth they didnt have any, i asked what was the cheapest bluetooth, she says this 1 is her best seller with few complaints, she said its just a new company trying to get out there. So far so good. Funny how technology and times have changed, 1.5 years ago I spent $89.99 for a motorola bluetooth that was full of echoes and static, today for $20 i buy some no name bluetooth with no echoes, I haven't tested how it does when i'm away from my phone.

THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP FAM... I'M coming from a metro, so you can understand I'm behind in the times

lol, 1 of my cousins got that metro touch screen, he wanted to see me to hook his phone up with some apps like mine.:smh:
But, 4 years ago I had a metro, it sucks paying $399 for a phone and it can't do half of the shyt of the same phone that's on a major carrier, but u wont hear me knock metro pcs, it got the job done for me for 2 years and it was very affordable during a rough financial time in my life.

Welcome to all the new Android users in this thread, dang seems like this thread is getting a new cats everyday! I'm about to send the OP greygoose a message................

So the apps will install to the SD card as it is now? If so then what would be the main purpose of me rooting it?

The main purpose of rooting any Android based phone is to get the FULL potential out of it. Wether it be WiFi tethering, overclocking, getting rid of those annoying Admob ads, or having a custom based rom with extra goodies you cant get from a stock rom. Ppl root for different reasons. As powerful as the N1 is, most Dev would prefer to make their own updates, roms, apps, add-ons instead of waiting on google to release a SDK or their carrier to send out a OTA. Like with the G1, when the 1.6 firmware came out, most devs already had cooked up a rom b4 the OTA was out.

As far as apps2sd goes[not to step on ya toes creed] but it DOES install the app to the sdcard. This is what the ext2 partition is for when you create linux-swap , ext2/3/4, and fat32 partitions when you first root your phone. Normally the allocation for the ext is 512MB which should be more than enough to run your apps but the bigger the SD the more space you can have. But I dont see the point of having 300 apps on ya joint

I know MOST of yall arent interested in rooting your N1 seeing as how you just got it, but for anyone interested here's the rooting instructions, Recovery image, Misc hacks, and Apps2SD.

HOW-TO ROOT YOUR N1[WITH CURRENT ERE27 OTA STOCK BUILD[Once you've rooted you can use Amon-Ra's Recovery image to flash a custom rom]

1. This does void your warranty.
2. The root image auto installs the superusers permission app
3. I am in no way responsible for anything that goes wrong.
4. Once you unlock the bootloader it does a factory reset on your phone.
5. I don't mind people posting this tutorial on their sites for others to see and use but I do ask that I'm at least given credit for my work.

1. Download the root image: (Do not unzip)
Here

1b. Put nexus-addon-0.1-signed.zip on your sdcard.

2. Download fastboot and adb files:
Here

3. Extract tools.zip to a folder and Open a command window in that folder by holding down your shift key and right clicking anywhere in the window. and selecting open command prompt here

4. Then with your phone off hold the power and trackball to access the bootloader.

4b. Type this command to make sure your phone is connected and reconized. "fastboot.exe devices"

5. Once in the bootloader type this command in your command prompt "fastboot.exe oem unlock"

6. Follow what that sceen says.

7. Flash Amons RA Recovery Image from Here

---------------Now to root your phone.---------------

1. Once you've flashed the recovery image turn your phone off.

2. Then power on by holding power button and trackball then tap the power button to access the bootloader.

3. From there use your volume keys to go down to recovery and hit power button again to access the recovery console.

4. Once in the recovery console go to flash zip from sdcard and select the only one that should be present which is nexus-addon-0.1-signed.zip

5. Enjoy rooted phone

---------------Now to Flash the ERE72 Update and get root---------------
1. Download the update and radio image from our buddies over at modaco (Link)

(Note Please download only the main update it self and the radio image)

2. put both the radio and update zips on your sdcard

3. power down your phone then power on while holding trackball

4. Use volume keys and power button to get to bootloader then to recovery
(Note: For a shortcut download a terminal emulator from the market and type the following:
su <enter>
reboot recovery<enter>
)

5. Go to flash zip from sdcard

6. Flash radio update zip first

7. After that is complete and you've restarted when it told you to do so.

8. Flash update zip

9. To get root again simply reflash the nexus-addon-0.1-signed.zip (instructions above.

MULTITOUCH BROWSER

Who wants multitouch for their N1 browser?

I just whipped this up, this will be in my upcoming ROM. The pinch-zoom helper code was written by Luke Hutchison. I've placed it in a separate framework jar so that it can be used by other apps (hint hint).

WARNING: You will initially lose your bookmarks and browser settings by doing this.

Get the following files:
http://n0rp.chemlab.org/android/nexus/Browser.apk
http://n0rp.chemlab.org/android/nexus/com.cyanogenmod.android.xml
http://n0rp.chemlab.org/android/nexus/com.cyanogenmod.android.jar

Add them to your device:
Code:
adb shell stop
adb remount
adb shell rm /system/app/Browser.odex
adb push Browser.apk /system/app
adb push com.cyanogenmod.android.jar /system/framework
adb push com.cyanogenmod.android.xml /system/etc/permissions
adb shell reboot

Enjoy

[APP MOD] WyContacts 1.0r2
Hi all,

I've decided to work on Contacts again, and am slowly porting over the features of my previous work to 2.1. It will not be updated as often since I'm now busy with school work, and will only be updated on weekends or when I've the time.

With that said, I've ported over all the features of the Dialer section, that is, you can now choose a voicemail app to launch, among others. However, Google Voice is NOT shown on the Nexus One, I believe because the installed location on the Nexus One is different from when you download it from the market. I can't seem to find Google Voice on my launcher although Market says it's installed. If any of you can see Google Voice, do me a favour. adb logcat, and then launch Google Voice. Paste me the lines with the word "Intent" in it.

The Dialer background is also themable, replace "custom_background_dialer.png" in drawable-hdpi-finger or drawable-mdpi-finger with an image of your choice (not too sure what's the best size). You should be concerned with the hdpi one since it's for Nexus One.

Features:
Dialer:
Ability to set certain programs for voicemail
Themeable background: custom_background_dialer.png in drawable-finger (both mdpi and hdpi) (Not working now, see known bugs)
Changeable digits color
Ability to disable feedback function

Call log:
Show/hide contact pictures in call log
Show/hide call button (If call button is hidden, the call type icon will dial the number instead when tapped)
Show actual time in call log, instead of relative time
Ability to clear all logs of a particular type (missed, incoming, outgoing)

Contacts:
Show/hide call button
Navigate directly from contact info (works with M4ps and rooted Maps, it doesn't make sense actually, if you're rooted you shouldn't be running M4ps).
Added preference to hide all "Text/SMS" actions except for mobile numbers.

Favourites
Show/hide call button

Always Nandroid First!

Installation instructions for apk:
Code:
adb remount
adb shell rm /system/app/Contacts.odex
adb push Contacts.apk /system/app/

Download (Thanks AndroidSPIN!):
CyanogenMod:
apk (unzip and push): http://www.androidspin.com/download...cts_Eclair/&file=WyContacts1.0r2_cyan_apk.zip
update.zip: http://www.androidspin.com/download.../&file=WyContacts1.0r2_cyan_update_signed.zip

Others (Stock Rooted ROM, Superboot, Bacon Addon):
apk (unzip and push): http://www.androidspin.com/downloads.php?dir=wysie/WyContacts_Eclair/&file=WyContacts1.0r2_apk.zip
update.zip: http://www.androidspin.com/download...clair/&file=WyContacts1.0r2_update_signed.zip

If you like my work, consider buying me a beer using the link in my sig :).

Changes:
1.0r2:
1.0 was compiled for mdpi devices, resulting in low-res graphics. 1.0r2 is compiled for both, should look nice in your hdpi device again. Thanks MontAlbert for the heads up.

1.0
Implemented function to show/hide contact pictures in call log
Added pref to show/hide dial button in call log. If hidden, tapping on
the call type icon will dial out instead.

0.9 (Unreleased):
Preference to show/hide separators in Contacts
Preference to show/hide contact pictures in Contacts/Favourites

0.8:
Added navigation action beside the address of a contact
Added preference to hide sms action for all numbers except mobile

0.7 (Unreleased):
Added preference to hide frequently called
Added menu option to clear frequently called (will be hidden if you hide
Added preference to enable rotation to landscape mode

0.6:
Fixed the FCs that occured due to lack of permissions (GET_ACCOUNTS).
Also added more preferences for call log. You can now show exact time instead of relative time.

0.5:
Ported over Dialer enhancements from my previous work.

To Do:
Port the changes over from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=599194

Source: http://github.com/Wysie/Contacts_Eclair_Mod_CyanMod

Known Bugs:
Replacing custom_background_dialer is not working. Can't figure out why. Please let me know if you have a fix.

[ROM] CyanogenMod 5.0 for Nexus One (EXPERIMENTAL) [02/10/2010 / 5.0-beta5]

I've spent a bit of time working with the latest AOSP code, and figured out all of the necessary components to build a working system for the Nexus One from source. I put together a vendor overlay that can be used by any developer to build a working system for this device!

This build is currently based on 2.1_r2 or ERE27. I've also added most of the same things that you can find in the previous CyanogenMod versions.

Code:
#include <std_disclaimer.h>
/*
 * Your warranty is now void.
 *
 * I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
 * thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
 * do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
 * before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
 * you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
 */

This is a pure, working AOSP build which you can use without any type of Google applications. I found a link from some other project that can be used to restore the Google parts, which can be found below or elsewhere in the thread. I've still included the various hardware-specific code, which seems to be slowly being open-sourced anyway.

* Can be used with or without Google applications
* Latest 2.6.29.6 kernel which supports highmem (thanks to Arve Hjønnevåg @ Google for this work), tethering (thanks to Zinx and Ben Buxton for the RNDIS backport), VPN/tun, and other modules (cifs, nfs, aufs, fuse)
* Clean shutdown/startup system
* NO APPS2SD. I've implemented a hack that will store the dalvik-cache of system apps in /cache, which saves you ~40MB on /data
* Built in USB tether
* Minor graphical enhancements and an excellent wallpaper by Prash
* ARM NEON optimizations (mostly to the pixelflinger library) which have not been included in the stock build yet
* Includes BusyBox, htop, nano, powertop, openvpn, and all engineering commandline utilities
* FLAC audio support from Kenny Root
* Phone enhancements from Cytown
* Contacts enhancements from Wysie
* Perform zipalign-on-install of applications
* DeskClock tweaks- longer autosilence and "require unlock" option :)
* Compcache is available via Spare Parts, but I don't recommend it
* Massive APN list
* Huge collection of ringtones and audio
* All available locales are included thanks to PsychoBoy
* Many other bugfixes and tweaks from AOSP contributors

All source code is available at the CyanogenMod GitHub

INSTRUCTIONS:
- First time flashing CM to your Nexus?
1. Do a Nandroid backup!
2. WIPE
3. Install the ROM
4. Optionally install the Google Addon

- Upgrading?
1. Do a Nandroid Backup!
2. Install the ROM (your Google apps will be backed up automatically)

HOW TO REPORT BUGS OR PROBLEMS?
- Was it a hard reboot? Get me the file "/proc/last_kmsg".
- Was it a soft reboot or a "boot loop"? Run "adb logcat" and get me the full output.
- Pastebin links preferred
- Please use the issue tracker whenever possible!

Apps2SD for N1

I thought since the cm5b4 thread is getting hard to navigate through that i would pull some helpful info out of it and make it in a seperate thread

I TAKE NO CREDIT FOR THE INFO BELOW, jerbarton should get credit for the procedure

AS usual I'm not responsible for any problems you may encounter or broken phone, i also cant confirm if this works on any other rom's but cyans and there is no gurantee it will always work but here you go

ALWAYS NANDROID!!

you will need to have an ext2 partition before this will work, i believe you can make one with the "partition" option in recovery

Code:
adb remount
adb push 04apps2sd /system/etc/init.d/
adb push e2fsck /system/xbin
adb shell
chmod 755 /system/xbin/e2fsck
chmod 755 /system/etc/init.d/04apps2sd
mkdir /system/sd

Whenever I get a N1 im defo gonna ROOT that sucker and see what its about. But if anyone decides to root it then id be MORE than happy to help you out. If you need help with installing ADB on your PC/Mac also lemme know.

I LOOKED FOR THE POST, SOMEBODY ASKED HOW THEY CAN IMPORT THEIR FIREFOX BOOKMARKS TO THEIR PHONE. GO TO MARKET AND GET MY BOOKMARKS, it's free!

im buggin at the way folks are gettin onboard with the n1

Well it looks professional/fly, bugs have been worked out, it's fast and one of the best phones out.

Damn with all the luv the N1 is getting, imagine if T-Mobile were to be allowed to sell this in their stores & websites.

lol, yeah, but right now I enjoy being the only 1 walking round with this btch around here. I haven't saw anybody with the phone. I had a couple of people ask me about it being out and about. Infact when I went to this cell phone accessories store today the owner wasn't there, he had some girl in there working, she asked what type of phone it was, she messed with it for a few seconds and asked what carrier has this phone, lol. I know as time goes on, more and more people will pop up with the phone and better phones will come out, but its tight having the most powerful phone on the market. I use to think I wish tmo had a phone like the iphone (android of course), a phone like the Droid, now I finally got what I wanted, and best of all without an expensive monthly bill.

If any of ya'll have any problems with your Android phone, whether it be G1, Mytouch, Droid, Nexus, etc... post it. Between Agent Creed, Zei and a few others, somebody will have the answer. The only problem i've had with my Nexus, I sent this chick a picture, it never sent, so I sent the pic to myself it never delivered. I did a search and found the answer. So all ya'll N1 users try sending a mms, if it doesn't go through, let me know, it's a simple fix, that was posted on the Nexus forums. peace

GOOD INFO ZEI!

I'm too paranoid to root my N1 right now, no tmobile store I can run to if something goes wrong for a replacement phone, no tmo to call and tell my phone isn't working so they send me a refurbished one, no nothing, that's why i'm being so fkn careful with this phone, i don't have insurance, it doesn't come close to being around liquid........................

But, honestly I don't see a need to root just yet, the phone has plenty of space so apps to sd isn't important right now. I don't see myself rooting anytime soon unless one of the developers figure out a way for flash to work on the phone or some cool shyt. I rooted my g1 because i was running out of space, phone was gettn sluggish, i wanted multi-touch, portrait/landscape modes, on screen keyboard and widgets. So I know i will eventually root the Nexus because I doubt Google's Updates will keep up with the developers dropping new roms. But, for now i'm just enjoying this but if a developer comes up with some innovative shyt or some shyt i've been wanting i'll root or I'll wait til I start getting bored with the phone, I always get bored with phones (go through a midlife crisis with phones) so I'll be rooting before the summer to bring a spark back to the phone.

Thanks for the links, if anybody roots let us know how it goes.

Agent Creed any info on Flash? I heard the Droid was getting it then I heard some phone on Verizon would have it. I can't believe after a year, none of the developers have figured shyt out.

Understandable on why you wouldnt root ya N1. Seeing as most of the devs got theirs from donations they can afford to test out these things.

Far as flash goes, I forgot what ROM has the 10.1 flash integrated into the browser but it was said that its HIGHLY unstable

Shazam: you hold your mic to a song playing an it will give you all the info about the song... for those times you can't remember who made a song you hear somewhere.

an wikitude:WikiTude is a simple way to find information about the areas you're visiting. By simply holding up your phones camera the program points out all of the viewable areas of interest shown through your cameras lens. Shit crazy right

FUCK METRO!!!! :lol::lol::lol:

New N1 owner checking in. I thought I left a message the other day, but I'm not seeing it. I'm loving it so far. It's been 2 days. I'm still downoloading apps and all that good stuff. I figured out how hit up droidappz last night so I'm not paying for shit! lol This shit is killing my TP2. The UI is so finger friendly. I like the ease of the market too. I thought I'd hate not having a keyboard but the predictive txt keeps me straight. I had an Iphone owner gimme props on it yesterday LOL. I haven't been able to play with it as much as I'd like cuz of work but this weekend I"ll have it rocking...I'm not gonna root til something major happens like flash or another version of Android.

Edit...Oh yeah, this browser is really nice too. Fast as fuck and always renders the page nice...Pandora is the shit. Didn't have use for it at the house, but on the phone it's the shit...that tv.com app is nice too, i wish hulu had one.

question...what's an app like live365.com...ya know like pandora but just internet radio based on genre

If i wasnt using my slowass tmobile 3G wifi tehter id have the app pack uploaded by now...*sigh*

For those who were looking for it

FlyScreen: http://www.mediafire.com/?hwywhizny4t

This app is MUCH better for installing and backing up your apps. Astro aint got shit on this. And also astro users, goto market and download an app called "AndExplorer". Its a little simpler than astro and the UI is more friendlier.

Well it looks professional/fly, bugs have been worked out, it's fast and one of the best phones out.

I asked about syncing bookmarks. I know about mybookmarks but I want sync. I settled on using xmarks' mobile site as my homepage and bookmarking a few sites I use frequently. My bookmarks change alot and I sync between safari, ie and firefox on win7 and osx and I like having everything right there.

Cosign all that.

Every once in awhile you come across a piece of technology or science that makes you feel as if you're taking part in the science fiction that you've read or seen on tv or in a movie. The N1 is one of those things.

Project Android APPS

Im thinking because this page gets so cluttered with news/apps/rants/convo that ppl miss out on a BUNCH of apps that have already been posted many pages ago and most dont wanna go searching for them. So i propose making a seperate thread where just the latest and greatest android based apps are posted.

It will keep this thread a little more organized than what it is now IMO. Some ppl have mentioned before a few apps that have been out for a while and have been posted a while back and I think it would make it easier on most and we can save this thread for disscusion.

Im going to start work on this in the AM 2morrow and anyone who wants to help out with this...please feel free to do so.

Opinions? Suggestions?

cop batterywidget albumart aldiko and advanced task killer & swype

Cool, I copped the Aldiko  I don't like the idea of the swype, I watched it on youtube :smh: I tried to cop that albumart but its not free, so i'll get it off of 1 of those sites tomorrow, cause its a MUST HAVE

I nee an all out media player, that lets me play movies an music an everything kinda like WMP but cooler looking...would be nice if it had coverflow like on itunes... the stock music player doesn't play vids an it looks shitty!
is there an app, that let's my screen look like the hero's, what i mean by that is having the clock up top with the weather  I think that shit looks cool

i saw this app called bluff my call or just bluff... that shit let you call somebody, but change your number to whatever you want on there display  i didn't get but i might... be calling muthafuckas an my number show up like 911 911

There are some other video players on the market. They seem ok. Not sure if any play something other than mp4.

Have you tried the clock app? it has the weather- slideshow, music etc
or you can try the news widget it has the weather on it too but it takes up a whole row.

I got a app called callerid faker but it wont work - keeps shooting errors. It does what that one you mentioned does.

here's some shots of the dock - ill post more with images of the clock app later on

HP's mobile computing unit appears to have decided that the term smartbook refers to putting a smartphone's components inside a netbook's body -- which kind of makes sense -- so they've built their Airlife 100 atop an Android OS platform, underpinned by a Snapdragon CPU (unconfirmed, but highly likely), a 16GB SSD, 3G and WiFi connectivity, and a 10.1-inch touchscreen display. We really can find no cause for complaint -- in fact this is the most excitement a Compaq-branded product has caused us... ever. HP touts a rock solid 12-hour battery life for the Airlife, which stretches out to a mighty 10 days of standby, in case you're one of those folks who hate to switch their electronics off. Announced in partnership with Telefonica, this smartbook will be offered as a subsidized part of mobile broadband service plans in Europe and Latin America. It may well find itself renamed under the HP Mini branding when it rolls around to the US, but for now head on over to Engadget Spanish for the full PR.

Lusting for more Android love from Motorola? Then you should start searching for a Chinese soulmate. We've been told that this ¥5,680 ($830) XT800 dual-SIM (one CDMA and one GSM) smartphone had been out for just a few days in Shenzhen -- right before the country shuts down for Chinese New Year on Sunday. Packing the same OMAP3430 core used by the Droid and Milestone, both the 2.0.1 firmware and a 720p sample video we watched were running smoothly on the lovely 3.7-inch 854x480 screen. The rubberized battery cover felt nice in our palm, too, but enough with the talking -- go gorge yourselves on the gallery pics, won't you?

ARE YOU SHITTING ME...DUAL SIM CARDS!?!?!?!?! I gotta move out this damn country man. The pverseas market is getting flooded with new shit and we get is the N1 for now
