Why do you see it as putting him down? I see it as she's showing that he is a normal person just like all of us. She does not try to make him out to be a superhero and more-than-perfect man, even though it is very obvious that he is her hero.

There are many women who work while their man builds an education, career, storyline for a great book, etc.
I doubt that Michelle or Barack have viewed themselves through the myopic lens of "Head of the Household" at any point (except during tax time).
Hopefully Michelle can show some women that it's not about how well you replace the role of the traditional man or showing that your better than a man....its about the two of you and how you decide to support each other.
People need to take Michelle off this "feminist" pedestal. She's just Michelle Obama and she wants to show the nation that she can stand by her man.
