Def Jam was a movement. Simmons didn't just get def jam he had to go underground and build it up and it became a part of life and then he parlayed it into what it is today. a movement can't be penalized because they achieved their goals.

Once upon a time Dipset was the wave. The thing I respected about them most is they didnt compromise their sound to sell records. They just kept doing what they did and eventually got the attention of the masses. They had it all, their own slang, their own sound, their own look, the female fans, etc....But over time, Dipset imploded.
Eventually every rapper is gonna have to choose to be an industry dude or an "in the streets dude"...Its impossible to serve 2 masters for an extended period of time.,

They started getting a bad reputation for shows due to fighting, leading to less club promoters/owners booking them.

The office politics between Cam, Dame, and Jay also helped lead to things going sour.
