If they really wanted to kill the movie theaters they would just sell the movies on their streaming service for a one time fee. I wonder why they dont do it more...
Because the right movie can make a billion plus on a theater run alone. No streaming service can replicate that (at least for now) Also, no streaming service is willing to pay that high of price for content. For example, there was a rumor that the studio that produced the latest 007 movie was willing to sell it to any streaming service that was willing to pay 600 million. They all said no thanks.

The current crop of movies with their 150 million plus price tags will need a strong theater run to at least break even.

Plus the second any movie hits a streaming service, it will be pirated with a quickness, another hinderance to making the most profit.

They should lower it to $10 a month and make all new releases $20-$40 each. But these companies are greedy so..... ...
the flip side you are not obligated to pay beyond the month. You can jump in and out as needed. You want to see Dune in December, just sign up for december and cancel by January.

Somehow doesn't sound like it makes financial sense. Hmmm you might be on to something.
I think they are trying to cut their losses. Covid is going to make large theater crowds impossible at least till 2022. So they got these films loosing money and a new streaming service that is underperforming. So they put these films on HBO MAX for 14.99 a month to help boost subscription rates. In the end, a number of new subscribers will stick around and become long term subscribers. Plus the movie will still be in theaters locally and internationally so they will make some money with a theater run. Even though Tenet underperformed, it still made 356 million in total ticket sales.

My 85" Samsung is like, "FUCK!!! This ninja is working from home, too? Shit, this ninja ain't gone never leave."

That's why I named My 65" LG, "Lady Gal"
The (REAL) Girlfriend laughs at that shit.
Because not only did She rush over to help Me put it together on my Mount/Stand when I got it last year,
She also instigated that I name the Damn Thing.
Because She felt I was going to spend more time with the TV than Her.

Misleading thread title. They are releasing the films in theaters AND HBO Max at the same time.

They are NOT releasing all the films on HBO Max at the same time.
Why would anyone want to go to a theater if you are already paying for HBOMAX, overseas theaters i understand here in the states you would be a fool to pay for both. BGOL Theater is going to be on fire in 2021

Not everyone has HBO Max. Not everyone wants to see a movie at home.

Oh I didn't think that.

but I guess some could have interpreted that way

no matter..

this is HUGE

cause I am not going to the theater

but I may NOW be getting a NEW TV

in fact I would get the Roku one YOU recommended

but HBO Max don't work on ROKU

Yeah I thought that was pretty clear...

Why would they release all of these movies on the same day.

I am shocked by this
either WB/AT&T realize 2021 will not be the bounce back some hoped for or they are willing to take losses on their films (when the were taking Ls anyway) for the long-term gain of building their subscription base. They are hoping ppl sign-up to watch wonder woman (or finally get the app since alot ppl get for free but dont know they do). Start using and forget to cancel. Or keep it because their is another big block buster coming out and the
now its up to the rest to get in the game. Honestly I am suprised HBO Max hasnt done better. And wonder how much of it is due to Roku/Firestick issue, the confusion of their roll-out (at one point there was HBO, HBO Go & HBO Max) and how many got it but dont know they got it

btw they need to stop bullshting and their Cinemax libary (Banshee, the Knick, Strikeback) and make Warrior an HBO Max show

Comments like this tells me you don't follow stocks or earnings reports....Carry on!

This is what I named my TV. Without using Google, guess the reference, October 26, 1985

So how could the streaming service by said movie? Which ever movie it is for a price? Meaning what would make it worth it for said streaming company?

from what I can tell rough estimate 100 to 150 seems to be the ceiling price range between netflix and prime (not counting HBO MAX because Warner Bros and HBO are all under ATT, I believe).

COMING TO AMERICA 2--AMAZON PRIME--125 million purchase from Paramount Studios
UNDER GROUND 6--NETFLIX--150 million purchase from Skydance Films
THE IRISHMAN--NETFLIX--159 million--I believe this was a Netflix original. As for the price, the reports about the de-aging effects is what made this movie the most expensive example I could find.

Here is a article I found that talks about a number of films in the 30+ range:

For comparison, No Time to Die the newest 007 movie budget is said to be 250 Million. Box office for the Craig Bond films has been anywhere from 500 million to 1 billion in grosses. With this supposedly being the last of the Craig era (thus the extra hype), the 600 million asking price wasn't too crazy

Well if 150 mill is tops for movies that these streaming companies are willing to pay, then there will always be movie theaters; no way that this big movie studios give up 600 plus basically guaranteed from these theaters; like it just wouldnt make good business sense; for lower level movies, yes maybe streaming; but for big budgeted and big money making titles, it just not going to happen any time soon....

Well dam, Disney has 70 million subscribers in their 1st year :eek2: they actually could just release certain movies onto their streaming site; and just send their blockbusters to the theaters ....
Like I said in other threads Netflix and Disney is the hamburger and hotdog of the barbecue..they not battling each other they are co-existing with 1 another.. they both are great addition to the bbq and some people will dub a necessity..both have their audience and both are liked by most audiences so you will cop both to appease their demographic... everybody else is not a necessity and has to find a way to be a great addition to the bbq... netflix up their monthly subscription fee by a $1 and if you look how much revenue in the next 12 months that will rake in just by a buck increase it will bring in 2.4 billion dollars in profit.. that right there is spending money to buy some of these movies that are on the sideline due to covid.. some of those films will be brought to add to that Netflix library to appease fans.. Disney got certain films on standby that they can release on their streaming service to make customers want to stay.. those 2 are good.. the other streaming sites have to peep that and do a bunch of crazy moves in order to stay relevant.. I said that Mulan release and that $1 increase gonna start a lot of shit in the game..it’s happening

Hello crime.
Circuit city ended, mad record stores ended, sports authority no more, modells gone, and so many more in the past 2 decades... you hear any rioting outside cause of it? Blockbuster got killed by Netflix..did the crime rate go up? .. biz is like life there’s a start and there’s an end.. yet things around it still go on..welcome to society

I know Warner Bros.main concern will be pirating but with such a huge library of new films and people that would rather wait until its truly safe to go back to the theaters subscriptions will increase.Plus HBOMAX isn't available in a lot of countries but theatres are open in those countries .
This is great for people who still can't go to a theater
