Yeah I haven't taken the CEH exam yet. I hear its tough. I got all the study materials from the class and can access the practice test site still. My test voucher is good til March so Im about to try to knock out the CASP then start focusing on the CEH again.

Yeah I got my CISSP and AWS Solutions Architect not too long ago. Working on CEH and AWS Developer now.
My plan is to do Cloud Security.......and some Cyber Security consulting on the side.

Cloud Security is definitely the future. I'm basically milking where I am for the training/certifications but I know I gotta get outta here to get any real meaningful experience. I mean, I can make what I'm doing look good on the resume and its government so that usually bodes well, but I plan to try to go private for a few years and get my salary point up and get that experience, then maybe come back to the State making some much better money and just ride that out. Do the consulting thing on the side.

I started as a Computer Tech, worked my way up to IT Manager, currently a Senior Systems Admin. Doing this for 15 years now. I have a BS in Information Systems Management and MCSA cert. I'm in the Detroit area.

Certifications are very important, the CISSP being sort of the gold standard at this point that will open every door. However, another thing to consider are security clearances. I'm on the East coast near DC, so with all the federal agencies and defense contractors there is a huge need for people who are cleared to work with classified data. It actually opens up a lane for retired military because depending on their specialty they can leave the service with Top Secret and above clearances that qualify them for ITSec work, whether they have the skillset or not. Once they're onboard the government will just pay to send them to training damn near indefinitely until they get their skills up.

I'm looking for some one in my office right now. I work for a defense contractor and we are looking for someone with CISSP and a TS. Need them to be familiar with security controls and RMF. Pay and benefits are excellent. DM me if you're interested.

I'm learning Debian from the command line, no GUI. My job doesn't alot of SSH and remote connections to devices out in the field.

I was thinking, I got Debian installed on a VM on my laptop, I was thinking of installing Ubuntu and creating a bunch of stuff and just learning.

Basically I'm thinking of test environment ideas.

You can use VMs. I use old laptops booting CentOS from an external. Linux requires very little resources, so the old laptops handle it fine. Set the IPs to static on all of them. Then you can use any ssh console to log in. I even have JuiceSSH on my tablet to log in - That way I can be anywhere in the house doing sysadmin testing.

Nope. The set up I am talking about will be a home private IP setup. So you'd use something like 192.168.1.x or something in that /24.

There are no ebooks for it.. you have to pay for their labs, but the test is included in the price.. retakes are only $60 though...
