!!!2008 NFL Free Agency Thread!!! - Updated When Signings Occur

The Browns don't need Stallworth to be a No. 1 receiver or a "go-to" guy... we just need a solid veteran with some hands and some speed to line up with Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow... we're about to spread the field like never before...

The Browns in '08!!!! :dance::dance::dance::dance:

Damn, I didn't think of like that.

PATS are playing with fire.... we need to keep Moss. Left and right, guys are dropping like flies. I know we're not over that cap.

Im listening to Sporting News radio right now. That Monty guy is straight up ROASTING the Bears for letting Berrian and Moose go and having Orton as the starter

Wait Devin Hester is starting isn't that gonna be a suitable replacement...:lol::lol::lol::lol:. Sorry I have to go back to being fair and balanced. They need two starting WRs and they will need them fast, or they might be putting Hester in a situation that will possibly fuck up his legacy.

In other news:

Randall Gay has told The Times Picayune that he wants to be a New Orleans Saint and is just waiting for an offer from the team... what the fuck is taking them so long.

Falcons have agreed to terms with LB Demorrio Williams on a five-year, $16 million contract, with $5.5 million guaranteed.

'SKINS MADE A PLAY FOR BRIGGS

Though the decision of linebacker Lance Briggs to re-sign with the Bears has created the impression that he had no options elsewhere, a league source tells us that the Redskins made a run at Briggs.

It was, per the source, "very close" between the Redskins and the Bears. In the end, Briggs decided given the similarity of the numbers to stay home.

Factoring in the $7.2 million salary he earned as a franchise player in 2007, Briggs will earn $28.8 million over four years.

Factoring in the Lamborghini he crashed and abandoned, the number is more like $28.3 million.

CHIEFS HAUL IN WILLIAMS

The free-agency frenzy continues, even late into a Saturday night.

According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, the Chiefs have agreed to terms with former Falcons linebacker Demorrio Williams on a five-year, $16 million contract.

The deal includes $5.5 million in guaranteed money.

EVEN MORE ON THE STALLWORTH DEAL

Though it's being reported as a seven-year, $35 million contract, a league source has provided us with some additional details regarding the contract inked on Saturday between the Browns and receiver Donte' Stallworth.

Per the source, it's a deal with a maximum practical value and length of $22 million over five years. The deal also pays out $17.1 million over the first four years.

So despite the appearance of a $5 million annual average, it's less than $4.5 million.

Still, it's not bad for a guy who languished on the market after a breakout season in 2006 and who didn't get many opportunities to turn heads (or catch passes) in 2007.

Chris Mortensen just reported on ESPN that the Saints are making a HARD second offer for Jeremy Shockey and the Giants are very receptive. He said the trade could go down tomorrow. Its probably going to be the Saints 2nd round pick plus a pick in '09 plus a player.

Demps set to visit with Redskins

THE WASHINGTON TIMES

Safety Will Demps likely will be the first free agent to meet with the Washington Redskins this year when he visits Redskin Park later this week.

Demps, 28, played his first four seasons with the Baltimore Ravens before moving to the New York Giants in 2006 and the Houston Texans last season when he was a Pro Bowl alternate.

Although he wasn't drafted, the 6-foot, 208-pound Demps started 10 games as a rookie for the Ravens. He has remained a regular since despite a torn ACL that ended his last year in Baltimore five games early and a dislocated elbow that prompted his release by the Giants last August.

In the wake of the shooting death of Pro Bowl starter Sean Taylor in November, the Redskins are looking for a safety to play next to LaRon Landry.

Second-year man Reed Doughty was solid last season, but backups Pierson Prioleau and Omar Stoutmire could depart as free agents. Fellow reserve Vernon Fox is more of an asset on special teams than on defense.

most INteresting off-season for sure....

Oh its about to get even more interesting with the possible move of Chad Johnson (forgot about that one huh), the Randy Moss bidding war, the Larry Fitzgerald contract situation (if he doesn't get dealt, the Cards may pull a you cannot use team facilities move because he will destroy their cap) and a possible Jason Taylor blockbuster trade. This is just the beginning.

Still Very Quiet

Despite reports to the contrary, multiple sources say the Skins did not make any real push for Lance Briggs; in fact, Chicago was his strong suitor by a mile.

Skins watchiing the DJ Hackett market, and with WRs drying up it will be interesting to see if they make a play in the next 48 hours should he still be sitting there.

I still think the trade market could be their MO at some point. Jason Taylor would be a name to watch, no doubt.

Hope you all are having a great weekend.

Cheers.

The Redskins Schedule A Free Agent Visit

Houston free agent safety Will Demps has scheduled a visit to Redskins Park for sometime next week. league sources said.

Demps, 28, is a former starting safety with the Ravens, Giants and Texans. He entered the NFL with Baltimore in 2002, and had a rougher time of things with the Giants in 2006 - Baltimore drafted LaRon Landry's older borther, Dawan, that year and Landry became an immediate starter with them, phasing Demps out - and Demps played 15 games for Houston last season.

The Redskins are seeking safety depth, and though many scouts were impressed with how youngster Reed Doughty came on late last season, I am not surprised Washington would look for a veteran to push Reed. Safety deptyh is something Coach Jim Zorn spoke about at the combine.

Just A Hunch, For Now

I could see the Skins getting into the mix for Lito Sheppard. Not sure the Eagles would trade him in the division, and many doubt they would, but I could definitely see the Redskins making a play. We'll see how the Eagles move ahead with the corner and how the market for him shapes up.

Alright, I'm off to bed. Hope everyone is enjoying this calm weekend.

Cheers.

Salary Cap Update

So the Skins were $3.5 million under the cap yesterday. Once the Collins signing becomes official - he has agreed to terms but all of the paperwork has not yet been executed - that would put the Skins at $2 million under the cap.

However, the rengotiation with Santana Moss is complete and official, sources said, creating an additional $2.1 million in space. So let's call it $4.1 for now. And the Clinton Portis renegotiation is essentiall done, sources said, and once that is reflected in the cap figures the Skins would be sitting on roughly $8 million in room.

Now, most teams will put at least a few million aside to account for injuries and cap issues through the season, and the Skins will need several million more to sign draft picks. But they will also create more space in June with the Brandon Lloyd cut - and they can trim some fat by making other cuts as well - and of course, Shawn Springs, Marcus Washington and Cornelius Griffin remain prime candidates for new deals should a need arise.

To this point the team has not asked any of them for permission to re-do their deals, sources said.

The Randy Moss rumors grew more dire last night, with word that the Packers and maybe even the Cowboys were considering runs at the star free agent receiver and NFL.com reporting that Moss has grown "frustrated" with the Patriots' lack of movement. Although it still seems to make the most sense for Moss to stay in Foxboro, the money has to work, and right now it doesn't. The five teams most likely to offer the right mix to Moss are the Cowboys, Packers, Steelers, Giants and Saints.

Wow if Moss ends up on the Skins it will be a 24 hour party

Jags fans how is losing Stroud going to affect your team? I know he is a beast but I have no clue who you have behind him?

"Don't believe that bullshit. There's no way in hell I give up Jason Taylor for a 2nd and 3rd round draft pick."

Fuck Brooking tackling five yards downfield ass....they shoulda cut his ass instead of Rod Coleman.

The Falcons needed to get in the Shockey trade talks instead of signing that bs tight end from Tennessee

Falcons sign Chargers RB Michael Turner for 6 years, $34.5 Mil....

:hmm:

Not sure what I think.

Thats ALOT of money for Turner. True the cap is increasing and it does that every year but..... Why wouldn't they just draft McFadden and spend the money elsewhere?

Good player though. Would have like to see him suit it up in chicago. But.... were mad cheap in the Mid west

If they draft McFadden....which i wanted them to do.....they woulda have had to pay him almost 50 million......Shit reggie bush got 50 mil three years ago and was the 2nd pick.....rookie contracts are ridiculous.,.....i wonder if i could go back and play at 36:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Looks like Dimitroff trying to build a pretty good team with his signings so far

Atlanta had to keep the All-American white boy to appease that conservative crowd that they're trying to keep (even though they've already turned their back on the team). I'm like you, I've always thought Brooking was WAY OVERHYPED and racked up a lot of tackles after a RB had run for about 5 or 6 yards. What good is that doing anyone!

Not sure what I think.

That Is A Good Move For The Falcons Cause Michael Turner Is A Good RB And Being With The Falcons He Could Become A Pro Bowl RB Fast, Now They Don't Have Too Worry About Drafting Darren McFadden.

The Falcons RB's Should Look Like

Michael Turner (Starter)
Warrick Dunn (1st Backup)
Jerrius Norwood (2nd Backup)

Dunn Still Got Game He Was Just On A Bad Team Last year So With The Improvements The Falcons Make This Year With The Team Dunn Will Be Better And Help The Team As A Veteran Player And Provide Leadership.

WTF? Micheal Turner signs with ATL Falcons? :yes; All they need is a QB and I expect dem to go .500 in 2008. ? :)

He does...but it will be with some other team. Our line is horrible and Dunn doesn't have the speed that's needed to evade linemen in the backfield with our line. Norwood is going into his 3rd year...he's more than ready to be a backup!

Falcons agreed to terms with TE Ben Hartsock, formerly of the Titans, on a four-year, $9 million contract.

Falcons agreed to terms with RB Michael Turner on a six-year contract. The deal includes $15 million guaranteed and is worth $34.5 million.

Saints signed DE Bobby McCray, formerly of the Jaguars, to a five-year, $20 million contract. The deal includes $5 million in the first year.

Free agent Ben Troupe has set up a meeting with the Saints. This is a good sign that there will be no Shockey deal.

Saints agreed to terms with CB Randall Gay on a four-year, $17.6 million contract. The deal is worth $6.7 million in the first two years.

Titans agreed to terms with TE Alge Crumpler, formerly of the Falcons, according to NFL Network's Adam Schefter.

Moss and Culpepper want to play together? Bring they ass to the "A"!!!:yes::yes: That will get people back in the dome until Vick gets out!!!:yes:

They don't have the cap room, and when Vick gets his suspension lifted they will part ways. Too much bad blood.

About freekin time my boys(the Titans) made a move... we got close to 40 mil in cap space and Vince needs weapons...good sign but we still got work to do
