!!!2008 NFL Free Agency Thread!!! - Updated When Signings Occur

Randy Moss-WR-Patriots Mar. 2 - 7:19 pm et

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports the Patriots are close to re-signing free agent Randy Moss. Schefter says the Patriots have a "standing multi-year offer to make Moss one of the highest paid receivers in the NFL." Schefter is almost never wrong, but we keep hearing Moss and the Pats are close and wouldn't count out another team like the Rams, Redskins, or Eagles making a last minute run at him.

Dunn Still Got Game He Was Just On A Bad Team Last year So With The Improvements The Falcons Make This Year With The Team Dunn Will Be Better And Help The Team As A Veteran Player And Provide Leadership.

Then explain how Norwood had just as many yards with HALF the carries last year :hmm:

About freekin time my boys(the Titans) made a move... we got close to 40 mil in cap space and Vince needs weapons...good sign but we still got work to do

I'm happy for Vince...Alge still has a lot of football left in him.

Essentially we took the Titans 3rd rate Tight end while they took our Pro Bowler. :smh:

Dude was always hurt.

Titans agreed to terms with TE Alge Crumpler, formerly of the Falcons, according to NFL Network's Adam Schefter.

That's a good look. You can't be a mobile QB without a good tight end

A Big Body Receiver that can hold on to the ball and Good Safety and we can contend for a championship.

yeah plus Brandon Marshal is the man now.

EAGLES, 'SKINS OUT OF WALKER SWEEPSTAKES

A league source tells us that the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Redskins are no longer among the teams interested in acquiring the services of receiver Javon Walker.

There's a suspicion that Walker's agent is puffing in this regard, overstating to the media the interest in the player in an effort to create a market for him.

Walker was traded from the Packers to the Broncos in 2006, and was released recently in order to avoid a significant roster bonus.

Free-agent running back Turner agrees to six-year deal with Falcons
6 hours ago

ATLANTA — Michael Turner says he was won over by the Atlanta Falcons' aggressive efforts when he agreed to a six-year deal Sunday.

"It was really the whole organization and what they're trying to do," Turner told The Associated Press on Sunday when asked what influenced his decision. "Everybody is fresh with a clean slate and trying to build things back up. ... I did not come into the visit expecting to sign so soon. I didn't know what to expect."

A four-year veteran who best known as LaDainian Tomlinson's backup in San Diego, Turner is expected to play a more important role with the Falcons. He is projected as the power complement to speed back Jerious Norwood.

Turner said a factor in his decision was new Falcons' coach Mike Smith's experience as a defensive co-ordinator with Jacksonville when the Jaguars had success with tailbacks Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew sharing the carries.

"It will be interesting with a combo type thing," Turner said. "Coach Smith from Jacksonville knows how that works, so hopefully it will be a good thing."

The addition of Turner likely signals the end of Warrick Dunn's time with the team. If the Falcons release Dunn, they will gain about US$3 million in salary cap space.

Turner and a representative of his agent, James "Bus" Cook, wouldn't confirm an ESPN.com report that his contract with Atlanta is for $34.5 million, with approximately $15 million guaranteed.

Turner (5-foot-10, 237 pounds) had 228 carries for 1,257 yards and six touchdowns in four seasons with San Diego. He also had three of the longest 11 carries in team history - 83, 74 and 73 yards.

He has averaged 5.5 yards per carry in his career.

Atlanta was Turner's first stop in the free-agency period, and Falcons officials made sure he didn't make any other visits.

Turner began his weekend visit Friday, and attended an Arena Football League game in Atlanta with Falcons owner Arthur Blank, general manager Thomas Dimitroff and Smith on Saturday. Blank also owns the AFL's Georgia Force.

Turner said he also had dinner with Blank.

"He's a great guy," Turner said. "He talked about what he's trying to do with the organization and I respected what he said."

Dimitroff said the Falcons believe Turner is ready to be more than a backup.

"We are pleased to be able to add a very talented running back and a player who has produced at a high level in this league when given the opportunity," Dimitroff said. "We think he's ready to take the next step and have a more prominent role in an offence, and we are happy he decided that opportunity is going to be here in Atlanta."

Turner showed his potential as a starter when given the chance to fill in for Tomlinson.

Turner rushed for 316 yards on 71 carries last season and added 164 yards on 43 carries in the playoffs.

In a Week 5 game against Denver, Turner set a career high with 147 yards rushing, including a 74-yard touchdown run, in the Chargers' 41-3 win.

It was Turner's third career 100-yard game.

"Besides being a quality football player, Michael Turner is a quality person," Smith said. "He is the type of player we are looking for to help build our football team. I'm excited that he is joining the Atlanta Falcons."

The Falcons already have added four free agents. The team also agreed to terms with tight end Ben Hartsock of Tennessee on Sunday.

Hartsock (6-4, 265) is a four-year veteran who was drafted in the third round in 2004 by Indianapolis and had 12 catches for 138 yards with Tennessee last season.

The Falcons signed defensive backs Erik Coleman and Von Hutchins on Saturday and re-signed quarterback Chris Redman, who finished the 2007 season as the starter.

Unless the Moss deal gets done, we are one of the teams that was mentioned to bid for his services. Gay and McCray are good pickups, and if worse comes to worse and Will Smith can't get extended McCray could start.

if anything they should let charles grant go,but i think they will keep all of them...where u hear the moss info?

cant believe Barrien got a better contract than Briggs.
and i cant believe briggs came back.
all the teams out there that need a great LB...and none contacted Briggs..
they said he had no choice but to accept the bears low contract.

the bears really lucked up with the signing.
if a team would have contacted briggs....he would have been gone.
i really hope he doesnt start playing like shit on purpose because of his contract.

.........man ....Barrian .....7 mill a year?
thats #1 WR money.
i liked Barrian...but i dont think he can be a number one reciever.
great speed....but nothing that really makes him stand out.

anyways.
my bears are still looking worse and worse.
basically no WR's.......a iffy defense.....empty OL.......iffy RB's
Briggs and Harris are really the stars on defense.....Urlacher is still good....but i think those neck injuries will catch up to him soon.

:smh:
my team is looking real shitty.
i already said the transformation would take more than a year.
but damn......looks like it will take longer now.

ill wait til after the draft and see where theyll go.....but right now......the bears aint looking to good.

can we still have a good season next year.....yeah.
but will we be in SB form....NO :(

GO BEARS!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW.....LOOK FOR THE PATS TO GO DOWN THE SAME ROAD THE NY YANKEES DID.
real sports fans will know what i mean.

Pats will be fine. All they need to do is sign Randy and another WR. And also get a corner. Draft Vernon Ghoston for the LB(hes a monster). Another good season coming up for them.

no offense but that sounds like alot of shit

Hell yeah, shit is sounding good for the Saints!
Randall Gay is great(any depletion from New England is good)
Jonathan Vilma's a good move too (from my other fave team the Jets)
Bobby McCray another agreeable move
Got Devery Henderson back for a one year (he got to step up, and not drop the ball so fucking much! Plus Robert Mechem will be getting play time).
Got Aaron Stecker back for a one year
Just waiting to see how Deuce will be on his return
..but they don't need to get Ben Troupe. I liked Troupe when he first came to the Titans but unfortunately injuries have plagued him a lot lately and I think Shockey would be a better fit.

GEAUX SAINTS!

The New York Jets and Cincinnati Bengals have agreed to terms on a trade that would send defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson to the Bengals in exchange for Cincinnati's fourth- and fifth-round picks (Nos. 114 and 151) in the upcoming draft, according to league sources.

Cards' Johnson to meet with Bills

Bob McManaman
The Arizona Republic
Mar. 1, 2008 07:54 PM
Amid wild trade rumors surrounding star wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald possibly going to the Philadelphia Eagles, word surfaced Saturday that the Cardinals' No. 3 wideout, Bryant Johnson, was scheduled to meet with the Buffalo Bills Sunday regarding a potential deal there.

Fitzgerald told ESPN.com on Friday that he doesn't want to be traded from Arizona despite management's requisite that he has his massive salary restructured. Johnson, however, who may feel he has been overshadowed by the likes of Fitzgerald and fellow Pro Bowl receiver Anquan Boldin, might strike gold by going elsewhere.

The Bills need a deep threat at the receiver position opposite Lee Evans and appear willing to make an offer to the fleet-footed Johnson, a first-round pick in 2003 who has averaged 45 receptions and 535 yards a season behind the Cardinals' top duo.

Meanwhile, it was learned that Tennessee Titans defensive end Antwan Odom, one of the better pass rushers on the open market with a good upside, is scheduled for a visit with the Cardinals in Tempe on Tuesday and/or Wednesday.

Odom, who is 6-feet-5 and weighs 274 pounds, was a second-round pick in 2004 and registered a career-high eight sacks this past season for the Titans.

Cardinals General Manager Rod Graves did not immediately return phone calls seeking comment.

As for Cardinals linebacker Calvin Pace, who appeared on the verge of signing a free-agent deal this weekend with the Miami Dolphins, he was headed back to his home in Atlanta but was expected to also peruse offers from both the Cincinnati Bengals and the New York Jets.

Odom, too, was rumored to be visiting the Jets this weekend before his trip to talk with the Cardinals.

The Atlanta Falcons added one running back Sunday, but will lose another in the near future.

Veteran Warrick Dunn requested his release Sunday after the Falcons signed free-agent running back Michael Turner to a six-year, $34.5 million deal that reportedly includes $15 million in guarantees.

Dunn, an 11-year veteran who led the Falcons in rushing each of the past four seasons, believes he can still be an effective performer and wants an opportunity to contribute on a winning club. A league source said several teams would have interest in Dunn, notably Houston, Dallas and Denver.

Texans assistant Alex Gibbs was the offensive line coach (or consultant) in Atlanta during three of Dunn's six seasons with the Falcons. Dunn ran for at least 1,100 yards in each of those seasons, including 1,416 in 2005.

Gibbs was out of football last season, but in January he joined Houston as its assistant head coach/offense. He's expected to install the same zone-blocking scheme he utilized in Atlanta and Denver, where he spent 13 years as an offensive line coach or assistant head coach.

Dunn would like to play for a contender, which would make the Cowboys attractive. But Houston likely would be the front-runner for his services because of his success under Gibbs and the belief that the Texans are a team on the rise.

Lito Sheppard/Other Stuff

I mentioned Lito Sheppard a few days ago as a possibility and indeed it was. Despite the fact the Eagles are in the NFC East, Philadelphia has contacted Washington several times about Sheppard in recent weeks - more or less since the combine - knowing the Redskins have a need at CB.

The Redskins rebuffed Philly, however, league sources said. They do not want to do a huge contract right now, they have concerns about Sheppard's ability to stay healthy and they are not inclined to give up high draft picks right now. Philly was probing around on Shawn Springs, hoping to pry him, sources said, with the Eagles believing he could be highly effective at corner as well as safety with them already honing in on Asante Samuel quite some time ago. (The Redskins, meantime, had a lengthy dinner with agent Peter Schaffer during the combine - Schaffer is a big-time guy and Sheppard happens to be a client of his. While I do not know specifically if Sheppard's name came up during that meeting, several parties who happened to be in the same Indy restaurant that night believe it did. Regardless, the Skins have shown no desire to deal for him at this time and the Eagles continue to shop Sheppard).

Greg Blache, Jerry Gray and Jim Zorn are intent on keeping Springs, and have said as much during staff meetings, sources said, especially with Carlos Rogers's status up in the air (they aim for an October return but that's far from certain). To this point the Redskins have told Spring's agent they do not need to redo his contract for cap purposes, sources said, and have given every indication to this point that eh will be a big part of the 2008 season as is.

However, Springs is also the rare player to have clashed with owner Daniel Snyder - during last year's renegotiation talks - and stick around. Often when there are differences in such meetings - see: Bailey, Arrington, Coles, Pierce - said player does not stick around for long. A year ago the Skins were shopping Springs around, but given the club's corner situation and his strong season (he was outstanding in the second half in particular despite the heavy pressure placed on corners in man coverage in this system). He is someone they need right now.

Otherwise it's all quiet. Skins waiting to see if guys like Cartwright, Fabini and Prioleau come back to them should the free agent waters be still on their end (Fabini is drawing interest from Miami), and watching the WR market with particular attention. They don't want to break the bank but should the price on a guy like DJ Hackett fall, they could perhaps make a play. (The Skins have never been real players in the Javon Walker hunt, by the way, despite what you might read).

The draft continues to be a point of emphasis within the front office, and rightfully so. Defensive tackle is the top need in regard to amateur players (most veteran DTs have already been shopped and the Skins have expressed no interest in Dewayne Robertson to this point and are not expected to, sources said). The Skins could address either WR or CB in the high rounds as well, but I strongly believe they will sign an established WR or CB before then, because you can't count on finding immediate impact at DT, WR and CB in one draft, especially picking 21st each round.

Saints Agree To Terms with DE Bobby McCray

Doug Miller, NewOrleansSaints.com
Sunday, March 02, 2008 - 3:34 PM

The New Orleans Saints announced today that they agreed to terms on a five-year contract with unrestricted free agent defensive end Bobby McCray. The announcement of McCray’s agreement was made by Saints’ Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis.

McCray, 6-6, 262-pounds, was one of the Jacksonville Jaguars’ starting defensive ends the past two seasons and ranks tied for seventh in franchise history with DT Marcus Stroud, who was recently traded to the Buffalo Bills, with 22 career sacks. A seventh-round pick out of the University of Florida by Jacksonville in 2004, McCray has played in 61 regular season games during his four-year career and recorded 94 tackles, 22 sacks and seven forced fumbles. The 26-year old native of Homestead, Fla. registered a career-high 10 sacks in 2006. In addition, McCray has played in three career playoff games, starting both the AFC Wild Card and AFC Divisional Playoff games the Jaguars advanced to in 2007, while also appearing in an AFC Wild Card game in 2005.

“Bobby is a player we identified as being able to come in and help us in the defensive line rotation,” said Loomis. “He is a player that is quick off the edge and has displayed a penchant for being able to generate pressure on the quarterback and be disruptive in passing situations.”

As a collegian with the Gators, McCray played in 36 games, making 15 starts over the course of his last two seasons, and recorded 107 tackles, 14.5 sacks, 20.5 tackles for losses, 31 quarterback pressures, two passes defensed, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

The Lions are expected to take a look at Warrick Dunn after he's released by the Falcons.

Dunn will probably be released later Monday. The Texans are also highly likely to show strong interest in him. Dunn starred behind current Houston line coach Alex Gibbs when the two were together in Atlanta from 2004-2005

Free agent RB T.J. Duckett is expected to sign with the Seahawks, according to Booth Newspapers.

Seattle needs a new power back to pair with Shaun Alexander. The Lions initially showed interest in retaining Duckett, but are looking for more speed.

The Giants are expected to only offer free agent S Sammy Knight and Kawika Mitchel like one-year deal.

Knight is only a league average starter at this stage in his career, but this offer may not get it done. Mitchell played for just $1 million last season.
