Soon after being released, at least a third of the league reached out to the six-year veteran.

Injuries limited Walker to eight games last season and he finished with 26 catches for 287 yards and no touchdowns.

He started the season with two 100-yard games before missing two months following a third knee operation.

Beginning his career with the Packers, Walker played two seasons in Denver. He had 69 catches for 1,084 yards and eight TDs the first season. But the offseason was punctuated by tragedy. Involved in a drive-by shooting soon after the season ended, teammate Darrent Williams died in Walker's arms.

I can't see the Raiders staying at #4 in rd.1. They almost have to trade out of that spot(Dallas maybe for #22 and #28?). How the hell are they gonna be able to manage the signing bonus the #4 pick will command along with the Kelly,Wilson and Walker signings.

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) -- The Chicago Bears reacquired free agent wide receiver Marty Booker on Tuesday to help replenish a depleted receiving corp.

Booker, who was the Miami Dolphins' leading receiver last season, signed a two-year deal with Chicago. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The Bears had lost leading receiver Bernard Berrian to the Minnesota Vikings on a six-year, $42 million free agent contract last week. They also cut veteran wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad with three years left on his contract.

The Bears also announced the team has decided not to re-sign Pro Bowl special teams free agent, Brendon Ayanbadejo. The team's contract offer to Ayanbadejo has been pulled.

Ayanbadejo had said during the 2007 regular season that he wanted a deal that would make him the highest-paid special teams player in the league.

Booker had 50 catches for 556 yards last season.

He is fifth in Bears history in catches with 315 in five seasons from 1999-2003. He was traded to Miami in the preseason of 2004 when the Bears acquired defensive end Adewale Ogunleye.

Booker's 3,684 receiving yards are sixth in Bears history and the 1999 third-round draft pick out of Louisiana-Monroe is ninth in TD catches for the Bears with 23.

As expected, the Chicago Bears didn't match the one-year, $705,000 offer sheet for defensive tackle Jimmy Kennedy and he became property of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Jaguars were looking for potential replacements for Marcus Stroud, who was traded to the Bills. Kennedy is a former first-round pick of the St. Louis Rams.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers added a versatile backup linebacker Tuesday who could start if necessary when they reached a one-year deal with Teddy Lehman.

Lehman, who played for the Lions last season, agreed to a one-year, $1.2 milion deal that could grow to $1.7 million depending on his playing time. The 26-year-old Lehman was a second-round pick of the Lions in 2004.

He started 16 games as a rookie with the Lions but spent the past couple of years as a reserve. The Bucs could use him at any of their three backup linebacker positions.
-- John Clayton, ESPN.com

The Houston Texans, who lost safety Von Hutchins to Atlanta, prevented safety Will Demps from leaving in free agency.

Demps agreed to a two-year, $4.75 million deal. The 28-year-old Demps started eight of 15 games with the Texans. He came to Houston after one season with the New York Giants. His first four years were with the Baltimore Ravens. He has 70 career starts.
-- John Clayton, ESPN.com

The Carolina Panthers beat out the Colts and gave former Raiders defensive end Tyler Brayton a two-year deal. The 28-year-old Brayton played mostly defensive end for Oakland although at one point he played some linebacker in a 3-4 scheme. A former first-round pick, Brayton will play defensive end for the Panthers.

Now I'm just waiting on the announcement that they cut Devin Hester.

Booker isn't a bad signing. He's not a world beater, but he's a younger, cheaper alternative to Muhammad. He gives them another nice target in the mid-range passing game along with Clark and Olsen. He also brings leadership to the young wr corps. As for cutting Devin Hester, come on-the Bears are trying to extend his contract. One thing we can say about the Bears-they don't go buck wild signing other people's free-agents,but they take care of their own. Prior to last season,Charles Tillman and Nate Vasher both signed contract extensions. Did they get Asante Samuel money,no,but obviously it was enough for them and they like being Bears.

Another quarterback who started for the Atlanta Falcons last season has hit the unemployment line.

The Falcons, who cut quarterback Byron Leftwich earlier this offseason, released quarterback Joey Harrington on Wednesday.

Harrington completed 215 of 348 passes last season. He threw for 2,215 yards with seven touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Harrington's release means Chris Redman -- who started the final four games last season and recently signed a two-year extension, is the only established quarterback currently on the Falcons' roster.

Tony Richardson has confirmed to SI.com that he has agreed to terms with the New York Jets. The financial terms were not disclosed, but the deal is for one year.

Richardson, a three-time Pro Bowl selection, is latest addition to a revamped Jets' offense; and he will be counted on to pave the way for Thomas Jones in the running game.

Originally an undrafted free agent signed by the Dallas Cowboys, Richardson spent the first 11 seasons of his NFL career with the Kansas City Chiefs before suiting up for the Minnesota Vikings the past two seasons.

The Oakland Raiders made a flurry of moves on Wednesday, announcing they officially signed former Pro Bowl receiver Javon Walker and free-agent offensive tackle Kwame Harris.

Oakland also has renegotiated running back Dominic Rhodes' contract this week, securing his return for next season. Rhodes was due a $2 million roster bonus on Friday, but agreed to restructure his deal.

Rhodes signed as a free agent last year after helping Indianapolis win the Super Bowl. He was suspended for the first four games last season and played sparingly until Justin Fargas went down with a knee injury late in the year. Rhodes ran for 237 yards the last two games of the season and is expected to share the load with Fargas next season.

The Raiders also needed help at tackle after cutting last year's starting left tackle Barry Sims. They also re-signed free agent Cornell Green later Wednesday. Green started at right tackle for most of last season.
-- The Associated Press

Detroit signed Buccaneers safety Kalvin Pearson to a three-year, $3.5 million restricted free agent offer sheet. The deal has a $1.1 million signing bonus. Because he wasn't drafted and the Bucs gave him the low $927,000 restricted tender offer, the Lions don't have to give a draft choice if they get him.

Once presented with the offer sheet, the Bucs have seven days to match.

The 5-foot-10, 200-pound Pearson will have a chance to compete for a starting job, but if not, he is expected to get significant playing time in the nickel.

The Lions also re-signed running back Aveion Cason and signed free-agent guard Corey Hulsey to one-year contracts.

Details of the deals were not disclosed.

-- ESPN's John Clayton and The Associated Press

Free-agent linebacker Matt McCoy signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

McCoy spent the last three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and New Orleans Saints, starting 10 of 30 games. He entered the league as a second-round draft pick of the Eagles in 2005.

-- The Associated Press

The Carolina Panthers re-signed reserve linebacker and special teams player Donte Curry to a two-year deal. He played in seven games last season.

Patriots Add Safety

Free agent safety Tank Williams agreed to a one-year deal with the New England Patriots.

Williams leaves the Minnesota Vikings.

He could be a possible replacement in New England for Eugene Wilson, a free agent safety who is drawing interest from several teams.

Contract Reworking Keeps D. Rhodes With Raiders

Tailback Dominic Rhodes agreed to a restructuring of his contract in recent days to keep him with the Oakland Raiders.

The former Super Bowl standout for the Indianapolis Colts reportedly had been scheduled to receive a $2 million roster bonus this week, putting him in jeopardy of being released before the Raiders would have had to pay it.

The Raiders also re-signed offensive tackle Cornell Green, an unrestricted free agent.

A year ago, the Jacksonville Jaguars were willing to part with tackle Maurice Williams after the signing of right tackle Tony Pathos, but now they can't operate without him.

Williams, 29, reached an agreement Thursday morning to stay in Jacksonville and play on the offensive line. He agreed in principle to a four-year, $16 million deal that included $4 million in guarantees. Depending on how much the team uses him, he could make another $500,000 a year.

A former second-round choice of the Jaguars, Williams moved to right guard last season and won back the confidence of the Jaguars organization. His agents, Tom Condon and Ken Kramer, were flooded with phone calls as free agency opened last week for Williams, who was being sought after as a tackle. He was considered one of the top right tackle prospects on the market.

In the end, he decided to stay in Jacksonville whether he's a guard or a tackle.

The 10-year veteran played one season in Philadelphia and finished second on the team with 139 tackles. Spikes missed the final two games last year after having shoulder surgery.

Spikes is the second high-profile player cut by the Eagles in a week. Defensive end Jevon Kearse was let go last Thursday after playing four seasons in Philadelphia.

The Eagles signed All-Pro cornerback Asante Samuel and defensive end Chris Clemons in the first two days of the NFL's free agency period.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Titans agreed to terms with defensive end Jevon Kearse on Thursday.

The 31-year-old was the Defensive Rookie of the Year after Tennessee made him the 16th overall pick in the 1999 draft.

He had 47.5 sacks with the Titans and made three Pro Bowl teams, but left in 2004 for a free-agent deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Kearse, nicknamed "The Freak," never achieved the success with the Eagles that he did in Tennessee, totaling just 22 sacks and suffering a knee injury that cost him much of the 2006 season.

He was benched toward the end of the 2007 season and released as a salary cap cut last week.

Ayanbadejo agreed to a four-year contract worth $4.9 million, including a $1.9 million signing bonus, and will sign the deal next week, Ravens officials said.

Ayanbadejo, 31, chose the Ravens over the New York Jets in part because of the opportunity to be a backup inside linebacker in addition to his duties in kick coverage.

Named the Bears' special teams captain last year, the 6-foot-1, 228-pound former UCLA standout ranked second in the NFL in special teams tackles over the past two seasons and was named to the Pro Bowl twice.

Ayanbadejo is the younger brother of former Ravens fullback Obafemi Ayanbadejo, who played for Baltimore's Super Bowl championship team.

Jets' spending spree reportedly leaves some vets feeling underpaid

The New York Jets have been one of the most active teams in the NFL's free agency period, signing left guard Alan Faneca, defensive tackle Kris Jenkins, defensive end/linebacker Calvin Pace and right tackle Damien Woody to big-money deals.

You pay guys you don't even know, and the guys in the locker room -- the guys that have your back -- you don't give a damn about them. It shows where the loyalty is.

-- Anonymous Jets player

In total, the team doled out approximately $142 million for the four players -- $74 million of it guaranteed. While the spending spree might have the Jets' fan base energized, some of the team's veteran holdovers reportedly are wondering when the Jets will show them their money.

"You pay guys you don't even know, and the guys in the locker room -- the guys that have your back -- you don't give a damn about them," an anonymous player told The New York Daily News. "It shows where the loyalty is."

The Jets are coming off a 4-12 season under second-year coach Eric Mangini and general manager Mike Tannenbaum. The team made the playoffs as a wild-card team in the first season of the new Jets regime.

Last season, the team traded guard Pete Kendall to the Redskins, rather than give him a pay raise, which he had publicly lobbied for in training camp.

Among the players who have made it known they would like new contracts are wide receiver Laveranues Coles and tight end Chris Baker. The Jets also are trying to negotiate a long-term extension with star safety Kerry Rhodes, who will be eligible for restricted free agency after this season. According to the Daily News, the Jets and Rhodes remain far apart.

Another anonymous player referenced the team's trade of Jonathan Vilma to New Orleans in his criticism of the team. Vilma, who never fit in the team's 3-4 defense, was traded to the Saints for draft picks.

"They're getting rid of the young guys and bringing in old guys," the anonymous player told the Daily News. "I don't know what they're doing."

One of the newest additions, however, said he thinks the team is spending big in the hopes of putting a dreadful 2007 behind it.

"There's a definite sense of urgency to turn things around," Faneca said, according to the Bergen Record. "I think the attitude in the building is right. Making changes and being aggressive in the offseason only helps."

Boss Bailey joins Pro Bowl brother Champ in Denver

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The Bailey brothers are teaming up in Denver.

The Broncos on Thursday signed free agent linebacker Boss Bailey, the younger brother of perennial Pro Bowl cornerback Champ Bailey.

Boss Bailey spent his first five seasons in Detroit, after being selected in the second round of the 2003 draft. He had a standout career at the University of Georgia, where he followed his older brother as an all-conference selection.

The 28-year-old linebacker has appeared in 58 games, including 51 starts, and has made 258 tackles, seven sacks and two interceptions.

Last season, he had a career-best 3½ sacks and 47 tackles in 15 games.

A phone message left for his agent, Jack Reale, was not immediately returned.

The Baileys will be the fourth pair of brothers to play for the Broncos, and will join Dave and Doug Widell (1990-92) and Eldon and William Danenhauer (1960) as the only brothers to play for the franchise at the same time.

Although coach Mike Shanahan has said the organization is shifting its emphasis from free agency to the draft to fill its many needs after missing the playoffs two straight years, the Broncos shored up their linebacker corps with experience this week.

They already had signed free agent Niko Koutouvides, who will get a chance to start at middle linebacker, and waived Ian Gold, who spent seven seasons in Denver sandwiched around a season in Tampa Bay in 2004.

Boss Bailey will play strong side linebacker in Denver, and D.J. Williams will move back to the weak side after a year in the middle.

The St. Louis Rams re-signed guard Adam Goldberg on Thursday and agreed to terms with tight end Anthony Becht.

Goldberg played in the first four games last season before being place on injured reserve with a knee injury. He played in 15 games for St. Louis in 2006.

Becht, a nine-year veteran, played 48 games for Tampa Bay the last three seasons. A first-round pick of the New York Jets in 2000, he has 133 career receptions for 1,164 yards and 17 touchdowns in 78 games, 74 of them starts. From 2002-06, Becht started in 96 consecutive games.
-- The Associated Press

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers wasted no time replacing Anthony Becht, who signed with the Rams. They reached a two-year deal with Tennessee Titans tight end Ben Troupe.

A second-round pick of the Titans in 2004, Troupe is hoping to rekindle a career that seemed so promising a couple years ago. The Titans made him the 40th pick in the 2004 draft because of his size (270 pounds) and pass-catching ability. In his second season with the Titans, Troupe caught 55 passes for 530 yards and four touchdowns.

His productivity diminished over the past two seasons. In 2006, Vince Young's first season as starting quarterback, Troup started nine games but caught only 13 passes. Last year, he had two starts and only five catches.

Troupe was looking for a new start and will have a chance to compete for the starting job against Alex Smith. Troupe becomes the sixth Titans free agent to leave in the past week; five of those departures were 2004 draft choices.

The Bucs also re-signed cornerback Sammy Davis.

The Carolina Panthers beat out the Bengals for the services of Landon Johnson, agreeing to terms on a $10 million, three-year deal with the outside linebacker.

A former third-round draft choice of Cincinnati, Johnson has started 53 games during his four-year career. He's started 16 games and has 112 and 109 tackles in each of the past two seasons.

The Panthers had a need at linebacker after releasing Dan Morgan, who appears destined to sign with the New Orleans Saints.

The Bengals' defense has lost defensive end Justin Smith, safety Madieu Williams and Johnson this offseason.

Johnson is the biggest name the Panthers have brought in since free agency began a week ago, joining guard Keydrick Vincent, defensive lineman Tyler Brayton and cornerback Ricardo Colclough.

Saints Sign Dan Morgan

Saints confirm Morgan deal

The Saints confirmed that they have agreed to terms on a contract with free agent linebacker Dan Morgan. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it was originally reported as a one-year contract by CarolinaGrowl.com.

Morgan, 29, is the ultimate risk-reward proposition. He was a budding NFL superstar early in his career with the Carolina Panthers, making the Pro Bowl in 2004. But he had played in just four games in the last two seasons because of an Achilles tendon injury in 2007 and a severe concussion in 2006.

He has primarily played middle linebacker, but he will likely compete for the starting weakside job with Scott Shanle in New Orleans.

the pats are gonna be garbage next year

:smh::smh::smh:

They should be great next year.especially their offense. They got their starting receivers back(excluding stallworth he lost his starting job). And they get their other Receiving TE David Thomas back from injury.Morris is back from injury so they would have their two headed rushing attack plus Randy, Wes, and Jabar. Maybe if Chad Jackson could come back well.He would be a great addition to their receiving core.

Their defense is a little shaky. When they drafted Meriweather they knew they were getting rid of Eugene Wilson( a waste of space.) LB is a need. Vrabel and
Adalius Thomas should do well. I know Bruschi getting old. But hes a pretty good old guy( led the #4 ranked defense in the nfl in tackles). They WILL get a young guy in the draft( preferably Vernon Gholston). They picked up a couple of corners. But they play in a zone system so it shouldnt be tough.
13-3 season for them should be in reach

The reunion between Lions coach Rod Marinelli and Buccaneers players he once coached continued Friday when Detroit reached a three-year agreement with defensive tackle Chuck Darby.

Terms of the deal were not available, but Darby joins safety Dwight Smith as offseason acquisitions who knew Marinelli from his days as an assistant with Tampa Bay. Last year, former Bucs defensive end Greg White was one of the team's main offseason signings.

Darby was signed to provide leadership to the defensive line. Though he may not be a full-time starter with the Lions, Darby was signed by the Seahawks prior to their Super Bowl season in 2006 and was considered one of the leaders of Seattle's defense.

The Rams re-signed their second offensive lineman in as many days by reaching a one-year, $645,000 deal with tackle Brandon Gorin. On Thursday, St. Louis signed offensive lineman Adam Goldberg to a similar deal.

Because of injuries last season, Gorin filled in and made eight starts and played close to 50 percent of the offensive snaps. Goldberg had two starts. Each received a $40,000 signing bonus.
-- John Clayton, ESPN.com

Wide receiver Brandon Lloyd signed a one-year contract with the Chicago Bears Friday.

Lloyd played for Bears offensive coordinator Ron TurnerTurner at Illinois and said that was a big factor in his decision to sign with the Bears.

A fourth-round draft pick by San Francisco in 2003, he has 130 receptions for 1,889 yards and 13 touchdowns. Lloyd's colorful personality rubbed some 49ers veterans the wrong way, and the team dealt him to Washington before the 2006 season. The Redskins signed him to a long-term contract that included $10 million in guaranteed money, but he fell out of favor because of his work ethic and poor production.

Lloyd had just two catches for 14 yards last season, when he broke his collarbone in November, and he caught just 25 passes with no touchdowns in two years with Washington.

-- Associated Press

The New Orleans Saints made another move toward strengthening their linebacker corps, signing former Carolina Panthers player Dan Morgan.

A team spokesman confirmed the signing but did not disclose the terms of the contract. Morgan's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, did not want to discuss the contract with the media, a person answering the phone in his office said Friday.

Morgan, 29, made the Pro Bowl after the 2004 season but was sidelined by serious injuries for most of the past two seasons before his release from Carolina.

Last season, he played only three games because of an Achilles' tendon injury. The year before, a concussion forced him to miss all but one game. made only one start last season, when he made 14 tackles.

-- Associated Press

The Atlanta Falcons signed free-agent defensive tackle Kindal Moorehead and two more defensive linemen Friday.

Moorehead, who played the last five years with Southeast Division rival Carolina, has 138 tackles and nine sacks in 75 career games.

Moorehead (6-foot-2, 285 pounds) is a former Alabama standout has played in all 16 games each of the past two years, but he made only one start in that span. He set his career high with five sacks in 2005 and had two last season.

The Falcons also signed defensive tackle Rashad Moore and defensive end Simon Fraser.

Moore (6-3, 325) has 88 career tackles and three sacks in four seasons. He was a sixth-round draft pick from Tennessee by Seattle in 2003. After two seasons with the Seahawks he was claimed off waivers by the New York Jets in 2006 before joining the New England Patriots last season. He played in only one game with the Patriots.

Fraser (6-6, 300), had 54 tackles and 4.5 sacks -- all in 2006 -- the last three seasons with Cleveland. He played in 16 games but made only one start last season, when he made 14 tackles.

-- Associated Press

The Tennessee Titans waived cornerback Kelly Herndon on Friday and visited with guard Rex Hadnot in their search for veteran help for their offensive line.

The Titans picked Herndon up from Seattle last June and agreed to a three-year deal with the veteran as they tried to shore up their secondary.

Herndon, who played in 73 regular-season games with Denver and Seattle with 49 starts, played in four games and had two tackles as second-year cornerback Cortland Finnegan won the starting job.

The 26-year-old Hadnot is a four-year veteran who has started 55 of 63 games with the Miami Dolphins. The Titans are looking at experienced linemen after losing starting left guard Jacob Scott in free agency to St. Louis.

Jones agreed to a four-year deal worth around $3 million a year. The contract is similar to the five-year, $14 million contract reached with halfback T.J. Duckett earlier this week.

With Jones and Duckett on Seattle's roster entering the season, the question is whether or not Shaun Alexander will be around. The Seahawks decided to keep Alexander until they found replacements and now they have two potential replacements.

Jones is expected to compete for the starting job. Duckett was signed to be a short-yardage back as well as a backup fullback and power back. Jones is considered a more elusive back than Duckett.

Jones' final two choices were Seattle and Detroit, although he had interest from the Bears and Eagles for potential visits next week. He had also visited with the Tennessee Titans.

The Washington Redskins reached an agreement with return specialist Rock Cartwright yesterday, retaining one of their key performers on special teams. Terms of the deal were not announced, but a team source said Cartwright received a three-year, $3.35 million contract that includes $500,000 guaranteed.

"We're real happy we were able to get this done," said Vinny Cerrato, the Redskins' executive vice president of football operations. "It made total sense because Rock is an outstanding special teams player, and he's also one of our leaders in the locker room. Rock does a lot of things for our team on and off the field, so he was definitely someone we wanted back."

Attempts to contact Cartwright were unsuccessful. Under the terms of his new deal, Cartwright, a six-year veteran, will receive a $300,000 signing bonus with a base salary of $605,000 in 2008 -- the minimum for a player with six years in the league. He will receive a $200,000 roster bonus and a $745,000 salary in 2009 and a $1.5 million salary in 2010.

Cartwright, who made almost $680,000 last season, became a free agent when he achieved performance incentives that voided the remainder of his contract. He ranked sixth in the NFL with 1,339 yards on kickoff returns. Cartwright was believed to be seeking $2 million guaranteed. In an interview Thursday at Redskins Park, Cartwright said he had not received any offers from other teams.

"Kind of frustrated," he said. "Thought something would have happened by now, but it hasn't."

The deal with Cartwright was the Redskins' first move in free agency since they reached an agreement with backup quarterback Todd Collins last Friday -- the first day of the process.
