Jaguars | Porter contract update
Fri, 29 Feb 2008 10:24:19 -0800

Updating a previous item, Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports the Jacksonville Jaguars have signed free-agent WR Jerry Porter (Raiders) to a six-year, $30 million contract, with $10 million in guaranteed money.

Jaguars Sign Cleo Lemon and finalized trade for Troy Williamson. Say what you will about the Jaguars but they are commited to having the "Doug Williams All Stars" running the team and I couldn't be prouder.

Jaguars agree to terms with WR Jerry Porter from the Raiders. He is now the #1 wideout in Jacksonville, LMAO!!!

Say what you want about us but we are quietly getting better and we had about 30 million-plus in cap room at the start of free agency. David Garrard more than proved himself as a legit starting QB last year unlike Byron "Cement Boots" Leftwich.

And we dont run the kind of offense that will produce a WR with 80-100 catches since it's primarily a ball-controlled ground attack with the combo of Fred Taylor & Maurice Jones-Drew. By the way, don't sleep on our TE's either.

Jaguars receiving corps:

Marcedes Lewis (young TE with size, speed, & tremendous upside)
Jerry Porter (the dark-horse of the group)
Dennis Northcutt (the jury is still out)
Reggie Williams (who used to suck really bad, but he caught 10 TD's last year)
Troy Williamson (hasn't lived up to the hype, but may flourish in the right system)
Matt Jones (okay, it might be a wrap for this guy)

I honestly wasnt being sarcastic, the Jags are getting better and I have a great deal of respect for them and their admiration for black quarterbacks. Williamson is a good downfield blocker and fits perfectly with the jags offense and Porter can be that 80 ball catcher.

Sporting News staff reports

The Philadelphia Eagles are expected to sign cornerback Asante Samuel, according to several reports.

The deal is expected to be worth $47.2 million over five years, ESPN reports. Samuel had been seeking a deal worth at least $10 million a year. but phillyBurbs.com reports that Samuel's agent, Alonzo Shavers said he was looking for more like $12 million a year.

The New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers also were rumored to be chasing Samuel. The Pro Bowler had 44 tackles and six interceptions last season with the Patriots -- one for a touchdown.

Samuel, who is 27 and entering his sixth NFL season, was visiting the Eagles' practice facility on Friday. The deal reportedly was pending Samuel passing a physical.

Samuel was drafted by the Patriots with their fourth-round pick in 2003. He shares the NFL record of three career postseason interception returns for touchdowns.

Word is we're looking at Tatum Bell....i'm gonna be pissed if that's who we sign to back up Marion Barber. Then again that would leave room for improvement in our secondary.

Seahawks | Team close to signing Crumpler
Fri, 29 Feb 2008 12:17:53 -0800

Darryl Ledbetter, of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, reports the Seattle Seahawks are close to signing free-agent TE Alge Crumpler (Falcons), according to Crumpler's agent, James Williams. Williams said he hopes to have a deal completed over the weekend.

I wouldn't mind Tatum Bell if he came cheap. I want a rb in the second or third round. Either Chris Johnson or Felix Jones in the second (Jones stock has dropped since the combine) or Steve Slaton in the third. Slaton would have been a first round pick if he came out last year.

Dolphins sign Sean Ryan, TE, formerly of the Jets

Vikings signed FB Thomas Tapeh, formerly of the Eagles.

Broncos re-signed TE Nate Jackson to a two-year, $2 million contract.

Panthers re-signed LB Donte' Curry to a two-year contract.

Dolphins agreed to terms with DT Randy Starks on a five-year, $21 million contract, with $7 million guaranteed.

Dolphins agreed to terms with WR Ernest Wilford, formerly of the Jaguars.

Denver Broncos re-signed DL John Engelberger Thursday, Feb. 28.

Dolphins are making moves.

Heres a big one:

Michael Smith of ESPN.com is reporting that the Detroit Lions have traded defensive tackle Shaun Rogers to the Cincinnati Bengals.

No word is out yet on what the Lions got for Rogers, who had been on the trade block for several weeks and had been rumored to be heading to the Jaguars, Jets and Broncos, among other teams.

For the Bengals, acquiring Rogers gives them just the kind of big defensive tackle head coach Marvin Lewis has always employed in his defense. The 340-pound Rogers is in the mold of Sam Adams and Tony Siragusa, the huge defensive tackles who played for the Super Bowl-winning Ravens team on which Lewis served as defensive coordinator.

Shaun Rodgers traded to Cincinnati Bengals for an undisclosed draft pick.

WR Javon Walker will be released today from the Denver Broncos.

With todays news of the Bengals getting Rodgers and Raiders keeping Tommy Kelley at a ridiculous price, expect Sedrick Ellis and Glenn Dorsey to fall in the draft.

whats philly doing? any receivers coming?

No on Larry Fitzgerald, but they pretty much have Asante Samuel locked up. Its like he came in for the visit and they drugged him, cuffed him and told him take the deal or you can't leave.

I expect McFadden to end up with the Raiders. Wish the Giants could somehow make a play for Glen Dorsey.

According to reports, the Lance Briggs dealings are quiet and the reason is he is asking teams for 10 million a year and no one is agreeing to it. They are saying he needs to lower his cost by 3 million and people will start pursuing him actively, but his current demands are too much.

What do you think about Javon Walker and Bryant Johnson in Philly?

Bryant Johnson is visiting the Bears next week and I think Javon Walker is not going to like this but because of his injuries he will not get a big contract. He will probably get a one or two year deal for maybe 2-3 million a year. He has to prove that he isn't infected with the injury bug, cause thats why Denver cut him. The Eagles need a top flight WR, and not the question marks that come with Johnson and Walker. I think they should take a look at Drew Carter, he is underrated.

Does an average receiver get this kind of cash these days? The Jags could have gotten Bryant Johnson and Donte Stallworth for that much money.

Porter has been a little more consistent than both Stallworth and Johnson. The Browns are probably going to go hard after Stallworth and can you imagine that skill lineup, their offense might be the best in the AFC.

Mayne, I need those Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals to start signing some folks. They need to get rid of Fitzgerald with his $18 million salary in 2008.
